Maybe so, churchgoing is not very common here. Probably a side effect of priests being on a state salary, they don't need to bother brining them in, so they don't. Of all the people I know that say they believe only one ever goes to mass and such. No escape since he's friends with a priest. Also were protestants and not too keen on the idea of a church bureaucracy standing between individual and god. There is little social pressure to attend.

Sure, but can you belong in the believer group without actually believing as much as simply going with the flow.

I know there is one, but Atheism isn't really a movement. It's just the inability to believe in what is after all a rather outlandish premise for which there is no tangible evidence.

I maintain that there is a significant margin for error when asking people if they believe or not. Most people will say yes if they were raised that way, but spend no time thinking about the implications. It's more belonging in a club than believing in God, the devil and paradise. They need the pagentry of the church for weddings and funerals, they may even have turned to prayer in some moment of personal crists only to forget all about it when it passed. Does that really count.

Islam is charged by a violent political climate though. It's nationalist tension much like that witnessed between India and Pakistan for a century already. It's much more about Israli settlers claiming more land every day than about literal interpretations of the Koran.
  8. I saw they were doing Jack and the beanstalk and it wasn't even a Pixar type thing. Real actors. They are fast running out of Brothers Grim-ish stories to do in 3D. It's getting ridiculous.

Wait, you know Linus Torvalds ? or is it some kind of gimped twitter thing on google+

Like Scientology really but with a few hundred more years to lend patina and credence to it.
  11. Started a new Skyrim game with Dawnguard despite the mixed reviews. Does anyone want to recommend any mods that don't conflict.
  12. Judges are elected right, not promoted by merit and professional reputation. It's just showbizz, he's grandstanding Texas style.
  13. They originally had the melee maneuvers for free with no energy use required. But during game testing they found it basically made every tester slide into stealth route and auto-melee kill/ko the enemy. So to encourage the development of discovering creative routes they jury-rigged the energy use for melee. Or something along those lines... I though it was just that making every mele a cutscene required no extra coding, and having them available for no energy cost would would have left the whole thing too easy.
  14. The point is not to enjoy the story or the gameplay but to assemble a complete 100.000 platinum armor you can only buy after completing a two hour coop mission.
  15. Well that, and you will have to have asked them all the same questions, and they would have to be a representative sample of Americans below the povery line.
  16. You are going to have to have talked to at least a thousand for it to be statistically relevant.
  17. It's a common misconception that Americans believe their poor are better off than elsewhere, so my American studies professor used to say anyway.
  18. Money is entirely imaginary. Mobs with pitchforks aren't. Even the Ceasars knew enough to make sure all the citizens of voting age were bought off.
  19. They would get it if not for the rich paying next to no taxes.
  20. Yeah, death throes. I had one come back to life recently though. It had been taking very long to spin up and one day it just gave up the ghost. Then a week later it returned, I had more or less forgotten it was there, still churning along slow as ever, but allowing me to salvage what I wanted from it. Some temp files/ program casche created by photoshop and something else probably hastended its demise. Don't bother with a disk check, before you have recovered what you want. There are only so many reads left, it might not make it.
  21. The new Bourne thing. Few surprises there. Feels like bourne #2. Treking around Thailand or the Philipines with his (not yet) girlfriend being tracked by assassins. They did this already. The action editing is annoying on more than one occasion. You can't have it all shaky cam all the time, that's not immersion, it's a headace.
  22. I guess the question on everyone's lips is 'what the hell is onlive', except apparently the future of everything.
  23. I should hope not. Wikipedia is where you find out which books to get.
  24. Is that Mcurly something from the home alone franchise ? Man, the years have not been kind.
