So whats to keep you from switching weapon sets to overcome DT like every other class? Most likely they will have to add some restrictions to the weapons that can be used when you deliver a Finishing Blow. So whittle the mook down with whatever overcomes their DT and then switch weapons and deliver the kill shot?

Ive got an idea for an uber character. Start with a rogue, choose whichever race offers rogue bonuses, and pump stealth and diplomacy every opportunity. At default, you will be able to hide and kill better than any other class and the diplomacy will carry you for all other occasions. Ive never had a rogue as my main either so this will kill two birds with one stone for me, open up classes Ive never played while still catering to the murder machine I like my toons to become.

How "grindy" will the game be?
Gfted1 replied to eschaton's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Aye, but whats the point? Unless you as a player enjoy combat (I do), then combat seems to be a negative return as it will cost you resources to win the battles and time to go back to a rest spot to heal from the battles. Ive never played a diplomatic character in my life, maybe this will be a good opening for me. -

My point here was that you probably wont have to kill for money loot anyway. Since we can strip mine every lootable item from every environment, you will probably make a great living just selling off random junk that you would have otherwise left on the ground in a game that has inventory item and weight limits. I cant imagine a game that allows you to backdoor right to the boss / goal but crazier things happen in PE. You have a good point about all the mooks that are between you and the goal but since diplomacy and stealth have been used as examples of how to avoid most combat it sounds like there will be ways to avoid / befriend / trick your way through. -

Unless there will be MMO type quests that require you to get amount of something, removing kill XP should remove all "grinding" from the game. There is no point to combat since you wont need to kill for XP, money or loot and can take the diplomatic path for most rewards. Sawyer did mention that combat isn't totally unavoidable as there will be some "core" battles or some loot that you will have to fight for if you want it, but for the most part I don't think you have to worry about grinding for anything. -
Dude. Stop being scary. What kind of an idiot would allow a game to be broken so that the players can get infinite gold and resources. Oh wait. Obsidian! My mistake. Exactly. Ill be able to r-click {loot all} and carry every single pickup-able item on the continent without thought or effort. Ill be rolling in gold before I finish clearing the basement of rats. Im absolutely going to "game" the system (if forced to via these mechanics) to decrease the pain caused by the mechanics. Because that's how I choose to play my game.

As opposed to the nasty things that will definitely happen to them if they leak secret information?

Im for a resting mechanic exactly like the IE games. You can rest most places, some places you could not, and there was always a threat of random encounters unless you were in an inn. I don't get why some of you just want a game where every mechanic has some form of punishment, all in the name of your ideas of "realism". Why wouldn't the thieves respawn? Because they are dead. The whole camp isn't going to be reinforced while you rest for 8 hours. The dungeon should respawn full every time you rest? What? Even if it did, whats the point? Lets say you get half way through a dungeon level and have to rest because your friggin Health has zero mechanics to replenish besides sleeping ( ). So your party pops a squat and rests. Now the enemies behind you that you already cleared have respawned and you still have the enemies ahead of you that you didn't go through yet. Who cares about the respawn behind you? Nobody going to go back through that area anyway because you already cleared it. Unless you are proposing that the player should have to evacuate the entire floor and go back to town to rest, which sounds like a pile of suck.

Youre entitled to your opinion and I respect that. To me its a meh because its something that's been going on since before my birth and Im totally unaffected by it. I also understand that its not for everybody. I actually support programs like this and have no problem with ECHELON, or the natural evolution (to include cellular, internet) PRISM. I don't have a problem with the whistleblower either (because I thought these programs were common knowledge anyway). Its good for people to keep their governments honest even if it involves falling on your own sword. That poor bastard is screwed.

I suppose, but that's kind of an unwieldy swinging motion. I believe most blows are delivered from an overhand or parallel swinging motion and that's why scale type armors overlap from top to bottom, like the scales of a fish. Yeah, I just found the design interesting since, to me, it seems to go directly against what I would want my armor to do. Scale armor absorbs and redirects blows to slide down / away but your example of lamellar looks like it would almost catch a sword blade in its plates because they are open at the top.
-
Im not familiar with Lamellar but the scales seem to overlap in the wrong direction. On first appearances, it looks like any downward blow would slide easily into one of those gaps and penetrate.

Honestly, I don't have the interest to get into a circle jerk over terminology. ECHELON is "capable of interception and content inspection of telephone calls, fax, e-mail and other data traffic globally through the interception of communication bearers including satellite transmission, public switched telephone networks (which once carried most Internet traffic) and microwave links. If you think that this tool is kept offline until they have a REALLY good reason or that it has not been used on its own citizens then I don't know what to tell you.
-
What? I haven't made any other comments on this matter except to point out it been going on for longer than we've all been alive, which most of you don't even seem to realize. That's right, its likely even your parents are archived in some database. What goal posts have I changed btw?
-
Yes, it has. Does this blow your mind?

Rolf. Its a program that's been ongoing for more than 50 years. If people are just now deciding the sky is falling then I find that to be disingenuous in the least and an outright uneducated Chicken Little mentality at its worst.

Shrewd move on their part. And its ridiculous to think that a $100.00 per unit difference will drive them out of business.
