Kids react to interracial Cheerios commercial controversy
This stinks of one of those made of "controversies". There have been interracial couples on TV since The Jefferson's.

Kids react to interracial Cheerios commercial controversy
The fact that the family depicted in the commercial is biracial. I didn't even know there was a controversy.

This George Zimmerman thing
Regarding prison demographics, unless you feel there are police squads that roam the streets indiscriminately rounding up minorities and framing them with evidence, (almost) every incarcerated person has actually committed a crime. Shocking, right? Now you will no doubt now argue that the sentences are unfair, and there is merit to that, but (almost) nobody is incarcerated simply for being a minority.

This George Zimmerman thing
That's what bothers me most. This dude is going to get railroaded no matter how many bars have to be lowered. I knew the prosecution lost the minute they asked the judge to allow the jury to also consider Manslaughter. I don't think they should be able to do that mid-trial either.

What are you playing now?
Endless Space. My first game came to an inglorious end around turn 114 with me being attacked by three factions and my puny empire in open revolt. I started game two as the Harmony and this time have focused almost exclusively on Applied Sciences and Exploration & Expansion and things are much smoother. It makes me wonder if focusing in Galactic Warfare draws aggression to you. I have a huge empire, have not been attacked by anyone, and the Ameba race fell all over themselves to immediately offer peace and give me a bunch of stuff. My solar systems are chugging out resources very fast and Im just stacking a murderous fleet at the lone entry point to my entire empire, a wormhole to another faction's solar system. Combat is pretty laughable. Just have a higher Military Power on your fleet and its pretty much in the bag. I use the same three cards every time. Question; how do you initiate Diplomacy or Trade Routes? I go to that Diplomacy tab and choose the race I want to negotiate with but all the sub tabs where you would offer what you want to give and get are blank. I tab through them all and the only choice ever is to Declare War. I played this damn game for like 10 hours yesterday.

Endless Space has its hooks in me. Must sleep...right after I finish research on my cruisers.

Update #59: Developer Q&A with Polina Hristova
You know what's weird? People in fantasy worlds can develop a single potion solution to counter-act ANY poison in the entire world, no matter what it is. But, they can't seem to develop a vaccine to even a single one. Eh, people in PE can only heal and recover from disabilities in their sleep. And have yet to figure out the mysterious bandage.

Steam and wireless connections
That's interesting that the WiFi is faster than the Ethernet. Don't both of your connections originate from the same router? (mine does)

I wouldn't consider 77 a crap score personally. Maybe for the AAA titles (which seem to be on their own scales IMO), but scores in the 70s I find are often "If you're a fan of the genre, there's probably something here for you to enjoy." Which is what I would consider Endless Space. It's not my favourite 4x Space game, but it does some things really well and will definitely satisfy space empire building itches. For anyone still on the fence, I'd second this. Grab the gold edition. It's only an extra buck or two over the base game and it includes the new DLC with the combat additions (formations, fighters/bombers and a couple other things I think) along with a new race, thankfully with their own ship models this time. I'm looking at you Automatons and your ugly ass Craver ship models! I'd agree that it's not the pinnacle of 4X, but it does enough things right that it's worth a look. The most disappointing aspect is the diplomacy with the other races. It has all the options you'd expect, but none of the other AI players feels like they have any distinct personality in the way they act with each other and you. On the other hand, managing your own empire is a snap and the basic game interface is I think very well handled. I have around 150 hours logged on Steam, probably 80-100 of which is in multiplayer. On top of the new paid DLC there have been 4 free DLC packs and the developers have been very good about supporting the game. I digging it so far but I feel a little overwhelmed at the moment. Theres a lot to understand and it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to combine fleets and build ships. And melkathi was not joking when they said you will lose hours and not even realize it. The Automatons (sp?) are giving me the stink eye and have attacked my scout ship twice whenever I get close to a certain planet. So Im doing the only reasonable thing, researching the warfare tree and chugging out covette's of my own design as fast as possible. I have to look into the video options but the graphics, specifically text, seem a little blurry. Or maybe Im just getting old.

I finally got through and bought it. I see it has a multiplayer component so maybe after I get my feet wet we can get a game going, time zones permitting.

Great game. One of the better recent 4X (or is it 4E? ) games. It is very user friendly, with tooltips for everything. Diplomacy kinda seems to work (which is sadly not a given in games). the visuals are beautifull. You have a lot of research options. It does a lot of things well. Combat was something people did not enjoy originally, but apparently the Disharmony expansion takes care of that. I haven't tried the expansion yet. The problem may mostly be that by doing everything quite unobtrusivly well, people easily overlook that it is a very well made game. In other games you can say gameplay sucks but the story is awesome. Or graphics are crap but the gameplay is the best ever. In Endless Space you don't really get that kind of high and low: it is a very well crafted game which had a possibly disappointing rock/paper/scissor combat. And that leaves people remembering the one thing they disliked and forget that they have nothing to say about the rest because everything else worked unobtrusively in the background, letting players enjoy the game. SOLD! Thank you for the feedback.

Dream & dread: Your hopes and fears for PE
Lets see: Dream: A game that captures my imagination and plays like the BG series. Dread: Almost every mechanic described so far. I have a feeling that Divinity: Original Sin is going to be the game I hoped PE would be and that PE is trending more towards Age of Decadence.

Thank god you guys werent cavemen, you wouldn't make fire for fear of getting burned. I agree that humans are both the biggest weakness and greatest strength but progress marches on and humans will be phased out of war fighting as soon as we figure out how to get machines to do it for us. Im just glad we have a giant head start!
