Do you want experience from combat?
redneckdevil replied to DnaCowboy's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
very true. and i will be completely honest with ya, atm im on the side of no kill exp but that may change when the full game comes out. ATM the bet is alot of fun and very playable "to me" without the kill exp. Now since i do not have "kill exp" i AM expecting that if i go exploring i AM to find some loot, quest trigger, dungeon, etc a good bit of the time and not ALL the time. Also with wilderness creatures, again i expect to see their crafting resourses also used for a quest maybe later on or in that very area along with what i stated above with exploring. With dungeons i feel i am rewarded enough with the magic items, currency, mundane items, and events that i am seeing so dungeon crawling already feels rewarding enough. -

i wanna qoute soemthing i found on the steam message boards about kill xp and dnd While it may have changed since I used to play D&D, "kills" did not give XP. What you had was an encounter rating, which was made up of a modified combination of the challenge rating of the critters, and traps (mundane and magical) in said encounter. The XP payout for a given campaign is based upon the encounter ratings the group came into contact with and overcame. Now, what this actually means if you had a competent GM was that you got your XP for overcoming the challenges placed before you, not slaughtering everything. Sneak through the encounter with the kobold's without killing a single one on your way to accomplishing your goal? Your insanely charismatic party leader talked his way past them? Your warrior charged in screaming like a madman and hacked them all to bits? All of the above is a succesful navigation of the encounter. TL;DR You were never supposed to be paid XP for killing something, you were supposed to be paid XP for completing the campaign, the XP value of which was determined by the encounter ratings of the encounters inside the campaign. Paying out XP for quests and not kills is actually the more faithful representation of "D&D Board Game". i for the life of me cant figure out how to link it from my steam without opening it again but its "no killing for xp" -

Questions about PoE
redneckdevil replied to Dark_Ansem's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
well, but is this in the plans? or this would be mostly hacking-like? I dont believe they are releasing tools to mod the game, u would have to mod the game another way by either getting the tools urself and some know how of just rewritting the coding. Dunno. I do know Nexus will have a spot for the mods though. -
About stamina/health and an idea how to fix it
redneckdevil replied to Zwiebelchen's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I dont think making DT a % would be very good unless ur talking about a number and a % of bleed thru? Reason being is im reminded of a certain game where the high end armor had 1st lvl enemies doing as much dmg as high end enemies and u can get into some wonky situations. ex. Armor has 10% DT. A tiger swipes u for 10 dmg and ur armor blocks 1 point of dmg. Using same armor a dragon swipes u for 100 dmg and the armor blocks 10 dmg. U start getting things like "if the armor blocked 10 points of dmg why didnt it block ALL the dmg from this tiger? Etc etc. When dmg goes higher and lower it starts getting a bit wonky when u start comparing whats more dangerous when u add in different atk speeds and what not. can work but its a very slippery slope if they dont design around that -
Mmmm what if it let u see things u wouldnt normally see to complete quests outside of dialogue? Find a hidden book in a secfet department in a desk and so forth. Maybe certain quests seem to go one way as this is whats "right" but every once in awhile this would find something that throws a wrench in the norm? also i wouldnt mind if it allowed to find things u normally wouldnt have. Itd be a trade off, do u wanna max out perception and find everything hidden in the game, ok what do u scarfice for it? Might, con, int? Might-dmg Con-health Int-duration Agi-deg and crit Resolve-chatty stat perception-findy stat

About stamina/health and an idea how to fix it
redneckdevil replied to Zwiebelchen's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
But then the noncasters get left behind or suffer just like in reg pnp. i dont have a problem with the system of endurance and health. It seems to make health more important and defining with ur endurance being like a "shield?" or maybe andreinaline being a better word for it since in RL u could be on the verge of death but that would still let ya get up and keep moving etc. i think really to fix the whole resting thing is do like they do in pnp where u dont heal to full each night and only a certain amount. Can either put in time sensitive material to prevent OR give the illusion that theres a timer going on when there isnt. That way people who are roleplaying can keep pushing on instead of healing after each scrape and people who just want to rest after each scrape can because they chose to. thatd be awesome if they added a age thing in LOL. Be funny as hell but AWESOME having a group of characters out in tbe wilds for several years because they keep resting after each battle lol. -
Does perception dictate hidden items or caches u find? Like when u go into a room or out in the wilderness, finding a rock that can be overturned or hidden compartment in a desk be determined by perception? Or noticing when an ambush is about to take place? If not would this make the stat more useful added on to what else it does?

With them partnering with paizo and plans for pathfinder style crpgs in the future, als the exapnsion of poe and finishing the touches of poe, the tank mmo they working on.... I think of they did do a kickstarter it would be after poe is released and seeing the response to that, if it does well which i believe it will then they will bid time and do another kickstarter. If poe does badly i believe they will wait awhile before pitching another one. I am down with a horror filled western, as i can see a lovecraftian horror themed since its open liscense or a bizarre silent hill type theme.....which tbh i think is really the japanese take and version of lovecraftian...bah anyway ill be happy if its got ****ed up **** and cultiests and old gods in it. Damn playing P.T. got me really feining for another silent hill grrrr

I am wondering where "all classes will be equal" is meaning in power and not what i thought it meant in being equal in getting the game done? Like if i play an uncharismatic fighter whos dumb as a horse, im still able to complete the quest of the missing daughter. Now if i had played through with someone whos charismatic or very lore knowledgeable etc etc, im able to complete the quest as well but more options and more info and a different outcome is availabel for me. im not seeing the "play it once and experience everything" that people afe talking about, sorry its not Todd from Bethesda designing this so that u have no options whatsoever and every quest will be the same even when theres an illusion of choice, no. Hell just with one quest about a certain someone i had like 5 or 6 options in how i could do it and the end result felt different for a good bit of them.

I love both steam and gog. Im giving one away on steam to a rl friend of mine who only has steam amd will use my other one for myself to have on steam as well. Ill buy one on gog for myself and problemly for another friend and hopefully be able to buy the boxed version when it comes out. If it goes on sale and my pnp group hasnt bought it yet, ill buy it for them as well when it goes on sale.

The CEO of paizo stated that they had future plans for many crpgs in the future. To the OP, im excited as well. I am wondering how the expansion will play into it for level issues and whatnot since we can get to lvl 12 in this game. I wonder if they gonna go the standard level 20 cap but i think they have other things in store. Could almsot wish the second game use a new character instead of us bringing in our old. Maybe met or hear about them and their deeds fallout style or through hearsay or books.

Damn well hopefully i can gather my thoughts together and surprisingly change my stance. i do want romance in future games. BUT theres a catch. I dont want it as a romance for my character to be in. I got to talking with a friend of mine that ive known for some time. He gone thru a divorce and sitting down talking about games we GM in pnp, the talk got onto romances. You know like what we allow in games and what stories we create and the players and so forth. Got onto anime and final fantasy (ty longknife, ur post let me fonnect the dots between anime and final fantasy which i like both but u see them doing romances very similiar which isnt surprising since most anime and final fantasy comes from the same small island) and the topic shifted to romance. What he allows and encourages and so forth. We had already talked about our players and what they are like. I coukdnt help but notice that in his group it seems heavily implied that his group a big focus is on romance because its something they are lacking in real life. From my friend who is divorced who works and has a schedule that doesnt seem to permit a life outside of work to "basement trolls" to people who have social issues. Not surprisingly biowares a huge fan favorite of all them. As silly as it seems to me, trying to have an open mind, the interacting romances...tryingto find the right words...lets them roleplay situations that they are lacking or cant optain in real life. Thats fine, because myself i like to roleplay the same way except not romance options but as a warrior or a sneaky rogue or a mage etc etc. The grand adventures that u cant find in real life. So im glad theres bioware for people like them whos main focus is romance. Just like im thankful theres bethesda for people who want open worlds to digitally LARP in. BUT that focus of interacting romance isnt for me. Like i said, i didnt even know there was romance in BG2 because i never got into a situation for it to lead there or whatnot. But i saidbi wanted romance in the games though didnt I? That is correct because i was thinking of one of my favorite roleplaying games and thats FONV. Wait FONV didnt have romance in it, but it did, it just wasnt something there for YOU to romance besides getting laid by a hooker or robot. No remember, FONV is about YOUR story, its about everyone elses story. Theres quite a bit of romance in that game and even hell, my favorite DLC of all time had literally Romance as the whole stage and reason for it even existing. I give you Dead Money. Survival horror, excellent story, atmosphere, and some of the best characters in the damn game but while u never had any romance options urself, the whole DLC area and story started because of romance. The love of a rich man with a celebrity. The whole place was built for her and everything included was all for her. You take away the romance in the story, and there is no Dead Money because without romance it woukdnt have existed. Theres other types of romances in the game as well from the BoS girl having her love taken away, from the guy trying to free his wife whos a hooker now, the guy falling in love with a woman hes never met but seen from afar, the doctor who lost his wife, the soldier who had his wife taken from him, the wife who wants her husbands body back, etc etc. there are many great romance stories in FONV that we could experience and enjoy but i was able to enjoy them wasnt because its was MY character in love, but someone else who i could help influence for good or bad. thats the types of romance i want in games, powerful stories that set teh stage for tone and backdropbof the world we are in. But not to interact ourselves in a relationship. I havent seen really any that were well done and while im thankful bioware has their type of romance they do, I myself dispise interacting with it a vast majority of the time. i will say i was ok with romances that were part of the main story but most of those we disnt get to create a character we was playing a predifined character (FF series and Witcher).

Superweapons
redneckdevil replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Im for it as long as they are rare. Id actually be down for them to be craftable but u gotta make a choice. Like chrono trigger and the sun stone, u could either make a really good weapon, a good set of armor, or a couple of helms. And that was it because u had to make a choice and could only make the decision once. now if theres an abundance....no. -

Class diversity in D&D vs P:E
redneckdevil replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
While i love the hell outta 3.5/pathfinder, i am very much enjoying the system of creation in poe. It has more freedom imho in creating ur character. Yes u create a character from ur class in dnd as well but what im liking is that i dont think will work very well with 3.5/pathfinder is the amount of freedom so far that ive seen (disclaimer havent tried all classes yet, trying ranger next). In those systems u had certain stats that u needed to good/great to function or else u were gimping irself and the party whereas in poe i dont have to max might or have it high to function, i can pump agi and per and shine against armored foes with less armor on. Etc etc. -
BRA****ingO! Ok im not against romance being in games but will admit that im happy its not going to be in this game. I want to roleplay and kill stuff and explore and dive into the culture and see what kind of stuff i can do and the game will react to. If romance was in the game wouldnt change my feelings on this game nor what i want kr expect to do in it. My thing is that makes me scratch my head and hear the principle in billy madison is when people claim that u cant have meaningful stories or relationships without romance. Or that BG2 wasnt known for its world or things to kill and see and story to unfold but that it is famously remembered and seen as a Romance game...wut? No offence, hell even BruceVC will admit that a game can be good and well done and fun without romance, its people who state that ONLY romance being in a game and that certain games are ONLY remembered for having a great story because of romance, im not sorry to say but that load of garbage doesnt help ur cause, its hurts it. Hell a good majority of people will claim they are ok with romances IF done well but for the life of many, if it wasnt ingrained and forced on u but done well as part of the main plot, most only remember the numbers game (say only this and she will love me, if i say this she will dislike me, etc). Hell ill be honest, until the romance stuff started up on here on the boards for PoE, i didnt even realize BG2 had romances because i never went that route and had a blast.

Love it!
redneckdevil replied to zentori's topic in South Park: The Stick of Truth: General Discussion
Necroing this thread using the green taco bell sauce Yes, loved it! It hit every note just right. Just finally brought myself to beat it and while i do agree it was short, it didnt have any down time imho and basically was just great from the time i started to the time i broke the gentlemans oath. I cant remember a game that has done this because even all my greats that i cant seem to find any fault in syill has their moments of uninteresting things. pat urself on the back obsidian because u not only was able to catch the shows vibe 100% u also made a grand and epic rpg outta kids playing make believe. -
Appeal to Obsidian: Don't Change PoE Abilities
redneckdevil replied to Gromnir's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Tbh id like our ability scores to be static as in we cannot change the scores whatsoever once we made them. So far i have seen alot of magical items that increase ability scores quite a bit and i think just keep the magical items as a way to raise ur scores or through time sensitive spells. Otherwise when u have to many ways to raise they lose their feeling as an important limited resourse. -
question about the backgrounds
redneckdevil replied to a topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Also be wary when u select ur background. After u have spent ur points it addes a point to what it says but takes a point from somewhere else to get it....at least in my game it does.
