  1. I will agree i didnt give the best example but ive only seen so far thats its static. And "fullon railroading" isnt inspiring or roleplaying goodness like people proclaim when u have tons of options of completing or doing quest objectives, factions, companions, etc with different ways and options but romances u have to do or say this or it doesnt happen. now only one romance i can think of in my 20some years of gaming that was optional and wasnt forced upon you and that one i can see people saying it added another level of roleplaying because while it was optional and wasnt forced upon, it swayed the main story in different directions.
  2. Don't get me wrong, I understand wanting to shake things up a bit because the current format of romances doesn't really work. But... NPCs are supposed to be their own person. Is it really such a problem that they might not like you? I have no problem whats so ever them not liking me, i have a problem of there only being ONE "way" or "type" to romance said person. Theres people today that fall for people they thought was disqusting, mean, to nice, a pushover, etc etc (aka being someone totally different than they usually like). You CAN'T be that person they usually dont like or enjoy and have them fall in love with you. Romance in games is very STATIC and thats my problem with it. Theres no flexiblity out of it (besides spamming gifts or something totally unrelated)
  3. Mmmm by chance can anyone show me an invame romance that was done well that we wasnt pigeoned holed into having to do things a certain way to gain said romance? (Of course without cheating by spamming gift options or what not) because so far all the ganes ive played, i had to roleplay a one certain way (aka saying/doing the things THEY though was acceptable which ended up being 1 certain way of thought/actions/philosphys/etc) instead of roleplaying ANY way to gain said romance. Romances ive seen so far have actually been very "linear quests path" that didnt broke much flexiblity in roleplaying. You had to say things that they agreed with, do things they agreed with, etc etc. I havent found one yet that i could roleplay someone with an opposing view point and actions than their view points and actions without getting rejected. Tbh ive not seen these "awesome different ways to roleplay" and instead ive seen restricting and limiting roleplay options. Yes romances can add to the story, but where has one been that gave u actual freedom in roleplaying anything and winning the girl/boy?
  4. OR u could make it serious and wear a dirty robe and drag a huge 2handed sword on the ground behind u.....
  5. (Using necromancy) Have we gotten word if paradox will sell physical copies to non backers and physical stradegy guides by chance?
  6. For people who are wanting to change their pledges, email the obsidian support and they will let u change ur pledge. You do NOT have to do a new pledge, just simply email obsidiansupport and they will let u change it. The option to change has not yet been implemented yet onto the backer site.
  7. Damn right im perfectly normal....Because im not crossing fingers to visit a brother BUT to get drunk and have a bar fight and grab a serving maid and kick in the doors to brothel as my drunk bruised bard sings "I'm so excited" while spending most of his gold lr whatever type of currency there. See there is exciting roleaying qualities in visiting a brothel!
  8. I will say dragon age origins, the romances in that game MINUS the gift giving to cheat was actually bearable. Now did it give me a deeper roleplay? Mmmm only with the black hair chick just because how it was tied into the main plot and dlc. The other options didnt really add anything at all. I think peoples main problem with romances in games and ill take bioware as an example, is 2 things. 1. To gain a romance u have to roleplay and pick specific options. It doesnt really "enhance" roleplaying, more so along the lines of "enforcing" a certain way to roleplay. Meaning u have to pick the right options to gain the romance and thus sometimes having to change the way u roleplay to gain tbe romance. Its not freedom with more options, but actually limiting ur roleplay actually. To gain morrigan as a romance option, u have to roleplay a certain way to gain her. 2.. ill get back on this one because im still thinking it through because im not sure now that i think about it.
  9. Well i would imagine that obsidian is needing cash and hey if someones willing to pay for it, then hey everybody wins. Its only a lose situation if people buy the beta and are expecting a demo and not an actual beta.
  10. Messgae the obsida help people and they can clear ur donations so that u can chose something different or add to it.
  11. As long as i can be a plastered bard in a seedy bar with 2 barmaids in my lap. Theres alot of "bar"s in that sentence that i have full faith in obsidian overcoming.
  12. Ok ive been thinking lately of upping my pledge because im really itching to have a physical box withthe game and everything inside. Before i go much farther in my ponderings, im wondering since obsidian has a publisher now to handle the physical copies of the kickstarter backers....does this mean the publisher will also start selling physical copies for those that didnt? I am already getting 2 copies which im using one for the beta on steam and im giving away the other. Now before any "GOG vs Steam" BS gets spewed, i have no problem whatsoever with either one. I just want a physical copy to have and hold....yes im weird like that. I will most likely install the game on another friends computer if there is an option to buy. So my question is, will the publisher sell physical copies to nonkickstarter backers AND will the stradegy guide also be for sale as a physical copy? Im not to keen on pdfs when it comes to books or stradegy guides etc so i woukd really like a physical copy of each. My question is do i have to up my donation to get it or will it be for sale after the game is released in physical form?
  13. Tbh as long as my party can get drunk and have a bar fight and pinch a serving maids bottom and have a throw and crash a whore house for both sexes....thats all the romance i need in a game tbh.
  14. Sigh why is it everytime i visit these forums "its the final countdown!" song keeps popping into my head thinking about the game and beta
  15. Very good. Im looking forward to not only playing the beta but also as my first beta im doing, im looking forward to the info on where/how/what/etc to report. I think they might wanna open up a whole new channel for the beta testers to discuss and bring up topics so its not drowned out or mixed up with the regular non-beta posts and discussions.
  16. Sigh i REALLY hope they give us some good info in the guide that we getting about the different cultures. I mean enough to give us a broad idea of said cultures so we can have a decent idea of what culture we are coming from to connect with. really REALLY loving what im seeing, i havent seen any game go as far as this without mods in appearance/weapins/etc from creation.
  17. trolling about what? There is no romance in Pillars of eternity and that is a fact. People in here are just wishing it were^^ It was a joke. In the video one of the options for why u are there was "looking for love" or something to that effect.
  18. Ill be quite honest, played the hell outta jade empire on console.....and i dont remember any romance in it. Maybe i just didnt intiate it or whatnot, i was to busy kicking ass and taking names and getting my ass handed to me by the final boss lol. For all u prmancers out there, im crossing my fingers the devs aint trolling yal but i will laugh if they are because u have to admit, its pretty good. Sigh, poor link, at least he never had to go through being told his princess was in another castle 7 or 8 times in a game.
  19. Also im gonna say i think the game is beautiful. It oozes with a certain style that i dunno gets me excited and just in awe to look at. Ive been playing divinty sin lately and yes i will agree the graphics dont look as good but ill also admit the graphics look cartoonyish whereas this one from what im seeing has a nice gritty vibe with it im loving. Now im not knotching divinty sin at all, while it is a fun game and looks good, it looks good because its got that style thats a bit cartoonish thats not going for realism but id dare say im getting fable style vibes from it. And thats ok because thats its own identity and style. PoE (have we agreed on an acronym for it yet?) doesnt look as bright but thats ok, because its got that gritty realism vibe and tbh i find the graphics on it gorgous! Yal are doing a great job so far with the graphics and hell im satisfied with the graphics right now lol. ok im problemly rambling due to these meds so ill stop here and end by saying Pillars of Eternity looks gorgous!
  20. ........its hard to breath.....so...so...so......HAPPY!!!!! In all seriousness, if i could i would hug yal for that! Please dont change it, something so simple does so many things, just tyvm!
  21. Also i have a suggestion, IF u do raise the atribute point amount to spend, please please give us the option to not spend them all. This will please alot of people in we have the freedom to chose how many atribute points we want. In the past like fallout with special, we are forced to spend all our points even if we felt it was overkill or didnt fit the character. if u point down somewhere how many points there are and give us the option to NOT spend them all, people will have the freedom to do 10pt builds, 15 pt builds, 20 pt builds, etc etc if they so chose to. It would be a way everyone could have and eat their cake too. Also it goes without saying that if we chose not tobuse said points at beginning to have them gone forever so when/if we do gain atribute points when leveling up we wont mistakenly think we are gaining 5 or 10 etc etc. this somwthing ive thought of that would please alot of people with little work involved and even add replayablity to said game to make it more challenging without having to change settings. like i said it could please people like me who like low point builds and please people who like high point builds. just a suggestion.
  22. Very good question. I cant watch the video right now but i wouldnt mind if it was like fallout where if u had the weapons equiped it didnt cost anything to switch between them but it did cost action points to switch to a weapon or item that wasnt equiped. i cant watch the video right now but does anyone know what governs our actions? Is it like table top where u have a move action, standard action, fullround action, etc etc or is it more like fallout where u have so many points to spend on doing things? I find this odd. Switching weapons mid combat is a tactical decision and it should, in my opinion, come with some sort of a cost. Wasn't there a recovery time for wizards switching grimoire's by the way?
