No idea how hard this would be to implement, but I really liked how you could add portraits to neverwinter nights 1 using the ConvertPortrait function in the console. Description here: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Portrait

Wurm Online, a nicely complex fantasy sandbox game with player housing, crafting and even servers with pvp for those that enjoy that kind of thing. It reminds me of Ultima Online before EA took over. /end of shameless plug.

Err, I do understand how the system worked, and none of the dialogue options both in language or intent were particularly difficult to understand. That is, after picking one; the short descriptions on the wheel were not particularly enlightening, hence the guessing game. Now, I'm not a native English speaker but I understand the language just fine. I just didn't like the dialogue system. The options are too restrictive, trying too hard to entertain and losing sight of the goal which in an RPG is building your own story and character. They turned my character into their character by yanking away control both in customization and dialogue, and turned it into one I would never choose to play at that.

Dead State, turn based RPG from the lead designer of the one best RPGs Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, involves ex-Obsidian employees. The Age of Decadence, same engine as Dead State, turn based RPG set in a "post-apocalyptic world inspired by the fall of the Roman Empire". Shadowrun Returns, 2D tile turn based RPG set in the cyber punk Shadowrun universe, being led by its creator Jordan Weisman. Wasteland 2, squad based sequel to the game that inspired the creation of the greatest RPG ever made, with some of the original Wasteland team, and some of my favourite devs: Chris Avellone, Michael A. Stackpole, Brian Fargo, Jason Anderson, and Mark Morgan. Grim Dawn, action RPG by former Titan Quest devs. Path of Exile, action RPG very much in the style of Diablo 2, but with extensive skill trees and new mechanics. Forced, cooperative action RPG on the PC/Mac/Linux/Ouya/PS3/Xbox360. Legends Of Dawn, open world 3rd person action RPG. Barkley 2, action RPG, I don't even... what is this? Dark Souls 2, may function on PC! South Park: The Stick Of Truth, which has already been mentioned. KickStarter. RPGs! RPGs everywhere! Run for your lives! Wow, I had no idea there were still this many RPGs in the works. Unfortunately I don't like zombies, post-apocalyptic or steam-punk settings or too much action in RPGs. Almost all of the games in the list seem to have that. If it has "fastpaced", "frenzied" or "awesome button" in the description they are usually horrible to play for me with a keyboard and mouse and I prefer a good story and character building over twitch combat with mindless enemies. That leaves...Legends of Dawn, Southpark and possibly Dark Souls 2 (if it's not too actiony). Huh. Thanks for the list though. *slithers back under rock*

I have several beefs with the dialogue wheel and full voice overs in RPGs in general and in DA2. Although whether DA2 is a RPG is a matter of debate (my opinion). To start with, with full voice-overs dialogue is budget based instead of story based. Since voice-overs cost a lot of money, lines that add to immersion but aren't strictly necessary don't get added and once a line is voiced it's too expensive to change it, even when on hindsight it just doesn't work. This results in a bland roleplaying game. Next, I read much faster than a voiced character can speak. A large part of the game I sit there passively waiting for the voiceactors to finally finish their lines. I really prefer to play my games and not have them read to me. If I want passive entertainment I'll go watch a movie. I don't think a game should be a passive experience. Aside from that and this doesn't have so much to do with the voiceovers or the wheel but more in general although both contribute to it: to Bioware a RPG seems to be all about the 'cinematic experience' and not about the roleplaying nowadays. To me a RPG should be about building my own character and play her the way I want to play her. Instead I get their character the way they'd like to play it shoved down my throat. Their choice of voice, their race, their looks, their way of talking, it's like being forced to watch a video of someone else play a game with their character. Now about the dialogue wheel, I have never reloaded a game as much as I did with DA2: try a dialogue option -> "wtf, I didn't mean to say that!" -> reload. It's more of a guessing game than a roleplaying game. In DA2 there were only three types of responses: - red: rude/stupid; I guess they meant this to be the evil response but evil should not automatically equal rude! Choosing this also resulted in murdering people just because and with no regards of the consequences (not that there were any, there should have been). - purple: (not very) funny/stupid; a lot of the 'sarcastic' lines were cheesy, uninspired and eye-rollingly bad, like the writers wanted to score points with the audience instead of fleshing out the character. Cheap laughs are just not my thing. - green: goody-two-shoes-roll-over-and-take-it/stupid; let's not get me started on this one. I'd need a bucket. Basically, if you wanted to play a charismatic, intelligent, courteous or manipulating character you were **** out of luck. The dialogue wheel didn't just streamline the dialogues, it made a joke out of it. No, DA2 was definitely not my cup of tea.

They're busy re-scanning her face with next-gen technology so she can be in DA3 and ME4. This time she's mandatory in exchange for a guaranteed 9.5/10 or better review score. http://doee.us/?p=331

I don't think they'll be shipping P:E in 2013, which as much as I'd want it right now, is actually a good thing. Woops, forgot about the Southpark one. Okay, I may check that one out

Games I've played that were new in 2012: 1. The Secret World (actually pretty good but with limited replayability) 2. Towns (sandbox, what's not to like!) 3. Guild Wars 2 (for about 2 days, should have tried the beta instead dangit) 4. BG: EE (not sure if I love it or hate it, BG2 is so much more to my tastes) 5. Dishonored (for 15 minutes before motion sickness kicked in and I uninstalled it out of self-preservation) Games I've played that weren't new in 2012: BG2, NWN:sou (never got around to playing this one before, mediocre though not as bad as the OC), Civ 5, Fallout:NV (depressing as hell, stopped playing it), Colonization (the original, best strategy game ever!), Skyrim (love/hate relationship with this one; such a huge world to explore, so little of interest in it), Anno 2070, Tropico 4, Avadon: The Black Fortress. Games that I'm really looking forward to in 2013: War for the Overworld ( ) - Can you say Dungeon Keeper 3?Project Godus ( ) - God game like the populous ones of old Are there any RPGs coming out in 2013 at all?

If there have to be comic relief characters in the game please let it be NPCs but not companions. I really dislike playing an epic story while feeling part of a travelling circus full of oddballs or freaks. I don't normally play 'good' characters and usually play 'soft' classes (rogues/mages) so having one of the main meatshields be an irritating moron that I can't leave behind or I'm mush for quite some time is really not what I'm looking for.

I really liked some of the gods in D&D, especially Cyric and Mask. But I love tricksters since I often play rogues. So I guess what I would like to see are patron gods that suit your race/class/playstyle. Gods like the "Goddess of Spoons Stuck in Draws" as seen in Discworld are also great fun but that would not fit in a more serious fantasy setting.

Unwinnable Main Questline?
Moirnelithe replied to mcmanusaur's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I just hope P:E won't have the same vibe as Fallout:New Vegas. I bought that game during the Haloween sale on Steam because so many people here were gushing about it. But I'm 60 hours in and it's so damn depressing I quit playing it. Maybe it has to do with the setting, I don't know but I feel like no matter how many quests I solve things are and will stay crappy. Part and parcel of playing in a radioactive landfill I guess.- 152 replies

If all choices are grey then that would get very tiresome, there is only so much emotional stuff you can go through before it becomes a chore. But only goody two shoes vs homocidal maniac choices is too simplistic by far. I'd really appreciate being able to play a smart, manipulative character with a good sense of self preservation. Many of the 'choices' in RPGs have been unrealistic at best (running off to save a village where an army of veteran adventurers has failed already and save it for free too) and downright stupid at worst (I'll just kill you now because I can).

Left Handed Characters
Moirnelithe replied to wolverine1's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
My gut instinct tells me that you're not being serious, but I think that's a great idea! Yes, you should totally write some letters or sit in front of the Obsidian building with a sign to promote it! Do it, do it right now!- 43 replies

Project Eternity MMO?
Moirnelithe replied to mcmanusaur's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You know perfectly well that P:E is about making a game that is no longer accepted by the publishers because it doesn't make the most money. Turning it into a money grabbing MMO is counter to this idea.- 106 replies

You're asking for mature content in a subtle way, then proceed to stating the sex cards in the Witcher as an example. For me this does not compute. Personally I don't mind romances or sex in video games but only if there is a point to it story wise and not shoved in for the hell of it. Sex cards however piss me off more than anything.
