Huge problem. "Outing" Aloth in epilogue
rjshae replied to RevBlue's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
A similar thing happened with Weeping Mother; I never actually added her to my party, yet the epilogue gave details that assumed I had. -
I'm curious, did anybody find a need to swap out spell books for a Wizard character? There didn't seem to be a burning need to use more than the four spell slots per level they provided. In fact, for several spell levels just one or two spells were sufficient. But perhaps it was just my play style.

I suspect the term "starting to show its age" is an invention of marketeers trying to start a new gaming fashion trend. "Hey, this engine is really starting to show its age. Why not buy our new, much more expensive engine with all the stunning graphic widgets and doodads? It's all the rage in the console market."

Stronghold: Getting poorer.
rjshae replied to Gunnar.Maluf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I've no idea; the security rating didn't seem to matter much. But then again the stronghold was pretty much an empty shell anyway, so there's almost nobody around to patrol the surroundings.- 3 replies

How do you rate PoE
rjshae replied to Namutree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
At present, the weighted mean score is 4.1. I gave it a 4/5, but some fine tuning can easily push it to a 5. If we were just grading on enjoyment, I'd have chosen 5. -
Then FFS they should just get rid of it. Wow, phew, this was an outburst... sorry... But it's true. Why does every game developer feel like an enchanting/crafting system is mandatory in a modern game release? It's totally not. Crafting is cool in sandbox games, but this is a cRPG. There's no reason why we need crafting; just get rid of it. It destroys the fun of discovering new unique magic items anyway ("Wooohooo, a magic item ... errr ... never mind, it got the same enchants as my old item.") I never understood why games like The Witcher had a crafting system. The answer is pretty simple; because some players really like it. The same is true for in-game houses, or romances. It's there to appeal to a portion of the player base. The fact that you don't like it doesn't really matter; it didn't stop you from buying or playing the game, and it is easy to ignore. If it does encourage more people to buy the game or increase their enjoyment, then it's a win from the developer's standpoint. As for crafting in The Witcher, that was one of those rare games where I actually felt like I needed crafting. It proved highly beneficial during the toughest fights.

What ending did you choose?
rjshae replied to dirigible's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I chose Hylea because my character felt sympathetic toward the suffering parents. The Galawain option was intriguing though: would that mean there would be fewer fractured souls in the future? I couldn't tell if that would be the case. -
A very sensible suggestion. Less weapons are affected that way, otherwise you'd risk creating new imbalances. This suggestion is also historically accurate as well. The Sabre came into its own as a cavalry weapon because the curved blade works well with the draw cut, whereas the battle ax was typically used with the shield (see Battle of Hastings).

Thank you for creating this game. I found it an enjoyable experience, with some interesting plot twists and turns. Play-wise, it had a lot of nice features; I particularly liked the rest system, the Marshal's bounty approach to combat-only quests, fast and slow modes, area looting, crafting, and the dual damage track. The epilogue summary was a nice touch. The characters all made enjoyable company, albeit less banterous than I would have liked, and the main villain was well thought out.

That ('f') is hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.

Easter Eggs (and other secrets?)

Perhaps there's an easter egg or two hidden among the backer NPC vignettes? -
Endless Paths Level 7...why?
rjshae replied to bucketman86's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Yes, I was expecting something interesting to happen when I enabled the forges. It's nice to know they do something, even if I only found out by reading comments from other players. -
Blinded icon does not disappear
rjshae replied to palker's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Yep. It went away for a long while then came back on a couple of characters.
