Not even going into the MASSIVE BULL**** surrounding the kickstarter funds or how DF has treated their backers or critics, it's just not a good game. The story is not developed for either main character, the worlds feel locked off and plastic, and I shouldn't be forced to play with horrible mechanics just because they are "old school". Bad mechanics are bad mechanics, no matter what. The documentary is great, though; especially when things fall apart hardcore.

Kickstarting an existing IP of another company entirely is not going to happen.

Countdown to Eternity!
Bryy replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I sure would hope not. I'd be extremely surprised if. Yeah, this isn't a sandbox game. There's no point in continuing to do quests after the game ends. -
It's not a question of experience. Video games are an interactive medium. Film is pre-made. I'm all for giving video games a more cinematic feel, but that's all you can do. They are two different mediums fulfilling two entirely different needs.

he still is anime emo elf... "How dare people like things I dislike." Fenris was an interesting idea. He was the best fighter. As a character, though, he didn't really have much to do. But I will forever hold in my heart the fangirls that got mad at me that I "made him gay" in my game.

These ideas never work in reality because things like time and budget exist. The most that Defiance ever did was a few references a year later.

Angry Joe LOVED Pillars Of Eternity
Bryy replied to kozzy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
:::shakes head::: What the hell is wrong with you people? I kissed my mother last week. Doesn't mean I'm romancing her. You can't romance Annah in PS:T any more than you can Romance Dakkon. You know what context is, right? -
Angry Joe LOVED Pillars Of Eternity

I think this is a rather petty quote. Why single out DA:I? Because it's the popular Hate Game at the moment. There has not been a game like PoE in quite some time. -
People actually are taking personal, non-ironic offense to the game?

The Movies was a good idea that very quickly became an advertisement for itself. It shipped with malicious codecs that literally turned off your monitor. You couldn't export properly to an outside editing software. The game existed simply to sell itself (yeah, okay, I know that sounds weird). It was cyclical.

Update #89: Backer Rewards
Bryy replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Yes. Piracy does affect them more than financially in this case. If pirates leak an unfinished copy, then it hurts faith people have in Obsidian. It's not them saying "oh, those poor pirates, stealing our products, we need to think of them".- 95 replies

Update #89: Backer Rewards
Bryy replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
They are not in denial of this, in fact they already said that they know the game will be pirated and that most of those people probably weren't going to buy the game anyway so it wasn't a huge concern. They never said pirating was not a concern, let alone a huge concern. Especially if people who were never going to buy it are pirating it. This idea that devs are cool and don't worry about piracy because only The Man does that needs to stop. The game would technically be unfinished. They were not talking about pirates.- 95 replies

Buying drinks = hearing gossip, news, etc.

The game comes out next month, it's probably a week away from Gold. -
Gaming history - do you think it's important?
Bryy replied to Starwars's topic in Computer and Console
Because it gives you context. It also allows you to predict the future, but I'm supposed to keep that a secret. Exactly. -
Gaming history - do you think it's important?
Bryy replied to Starwars's topic in Computer and Console
Why does history in general matter? -
That is normal in game development process, but also it is normal that people, who usually don't actually know anything about developing game or have fleeting knowledge, but who still gave their money towards game (for monetary/gametary/ect. returns) demand that features that were promised in original concept/pitch should be in game or that game should have features x and y that they think are good. Which is reason why proven concepts control gaming industry, as they are safer option for both sides where visionary projects that try to create something new a risk for both sides, as they are difficult to pitch accurately, they nearly always promise more than they can deliver and people have only elusive idea what game is about and how it plays and those ideas in peoples head are often in conflict with ideas that other people in the project have about the game, which leads to higher dissatisfaction and harsher feedback. People say often say that they want to see innovation, but that is mentality that seems to often disappear as soon as their money is involved in making of a game. Kickstarter is also hard because people oft see that as "why didn't you do this? There is no publisher holding you back" or "why are you doing this? No publisher is telling you to!".
