  1. The Goal System is pretty neat. Still, I'll need to see more.
  2. I have no doubt PoE will be gigantic game. Maybe I should just preface all my posts with that.
  3. There's waaaaaaaaay too much emphasis on "playing the wrong way" (I mean, just look at the responses to my comment - hell, look at the comment I quoted), when there's no "one" way to play games, especially an RPG. People's playtimes are going to vary greatly just because of things like metagaming and stopping to smell the roses. Everyone has their own playstyle, their own tolerance for conversation speed and interaction, their own view on completion. There's an average playtime, un-average playtime, and then there is the base playtime. I can run Dragon Age 3 at minimum eight hours and at max one hundred. Completionist playthroughs are rather absolute, as they are the max amount of **** in a game you can possibly do. So no, it's not horrible to mention the difference.
  4. In the other hand, I think you're mistaking PoE with a shooter or a beat'em up game where the sole purpose is to rush to the end and discard it into the "done" pile of dusty games. Dude, please don't.
  5. Oh, it's just that one guy thanked me for his job and it brought me to my ****ing kness. I still don't know how to properly process that. So yeah, I get upset when people say Obsidian wasn't in bad shape, or imply this is PR, or get pissed off when devs mention DLC in a Kickstarter, or talk about how money shouldn't matter (even after you donated to a sometimes multi-million dollar project), or ask for a refund after they find out that making games is a job, or pull pledges after the devs reveal a stretch goal for female PCs, or that they ask for refunds because the dev supports female inclusion in the industry. They often forget that game creators are real people and not magical fun-time pixies that don't exist within the same plane as mortals. Relations between companies don't work the same way as relations between people though. He can say "f**k publishers" and strike a deal with EA tomorrow if both parties are interested. It's not like he's offending anyone. Which Brian did exactly that by making WL2 for Microsoft & Sony. Which Brian did when he said he was going to put Wasteland 2 on Origin.
  6. Their entire stretch goal system was ****ed up. It's one of the primary reasons I didn't pledge higher.
  7. God, I love those offices. You guys have such a friggin' amazing set-up. It's really clean and efficient. No. Um. I feel like retelling the story of going to Obsidian after the Kickstarter. Because that was kind of the case.
  8. I think people in this thread are mistaking playtime for taking it slow. And it's not wrong to play like that. But let's not act like purposefully nitpicking over every detail is a contributing factor to the full playtime.
  9. Yes, by all means, let's continue the myth that devs are a-okay with piracy. Such an incredible effort just to prove me wrong. ... he proved you wrong. He gave you the proof you wanted. Holy ****. To say nothing of the fact that you guys hate publishers until you want them. Ignoring the fact that your first statement doesn't make any sense, it's not like there is NO reason to be very dissatisfied with publishers: The Sith Lords. does the name tell you anything? Money. Money is a good reason to go to publishers. And my first statement, where I said nothing but "he gave you proof and you still ignore him" made no sense?
  10. Do you even know how money works? Okay. Before we continue, you must read this in a Ron Swanson voice. Profit. It means that the product you put out made money. Kickstarter does not make your product money. Please do not try to argue that "income" is "profit" because it is not. Even if we were not using the business definition of profit, income would still not be profit. Take the $3,986,929 they got in donations. Let's factor in Rewards before Fees and Taxes just because they'll take the longest to do. ****, this is gonna take a long time. Base Game = $44.99, Collector's Book = $22 (approx. printing of singular colored book), T-Shirt = approx. $25, Post Card = approx. $5, Cloth Patch = approx. $5, Mouse Pad = approx. $25, Cloth Map = approx. $50, Loot Bag = approx. $50 $65 tier: $248,170 - $76,398.18 = $171,771.82 Actual $100 tier: $104,100 - $78,064 = $26,036 Actual $110 tier: $87,120 - $83,160 = $3,960 Actual $140 tier: $489,440 - $454,445 = $34,995 Actual $250 tier: $436,500 - $309,024 = $127,476 Actual $350 tier: $10,500 - $7,409 = $3,091 Actual $500 tier: $183,500 - $64,955 = $118,545 Actual $750 tier: $21,750 - $5,132 = $16,618 Actual $1000 tier A: $114,000 - $20,177 = $93,823 Actual $1000 tier B: $49,00 - $8,672 = $40,328 Actual $3000 tier: $21,000 - $1,260 = $19,740 Actual $5000 tier A: $25,00 - $885 = $24,115 Actual $5000 tier B: $15,000 - $531 = $14,469 Actual $10000 tier: $50,000 - $884 = $49,116 Actual Rewards = $1,034,599 (actual number is not pertinent to this exercise) We're down to $2,952,330. Kickstarter & Amazon Fees = $39,862.90. We're down to $2,912,468. California Tax = let's approximate at minimum $400,00 since they did not spend all of the total income in the same year. We're down to $2,512,468. I forget the number of people working on Pillars, but let's say 25 x $75,000 (this was the median in 2012) = $1,875,000. This leaves a little under $700k to make the actual game itself. Obviously, my end numbers are screwed up, as it would be insane for the final number to drop a few million (although, there are those horror stories of going into the negatives by at least the double digits), but please tell me, in what world is any of this profit?
  11. You need to be more specific than just "I want to mod". Modding is not like straight game dev where you can just go from any programming language. Modding is specific to a certain game or engine.
  12. Well, so this just happened. http://mcuexchange.com/james-gunn-reveals-marvel-studios-will-not-be-attending-comic-con-2/
  13. Ever since the stream, I've been thinking about custom party members. This is going to assume you can only have a party of seven. I've been thinking up names, races, classes, and what stat specialization they would be. What would your hypothetical party hypothetically look like? At the current moment, here are my ideas for my custom adventurer's party: Main (Wizard): Shiloh Death Godlike, Female, Old Valia, Mercenary Int/Might/Con Bruiser (Fighter): Tank Boreal Dwarf, Male, The Living Lands, Hunter Might (20)/Con Buffer (Chanter): Shortstack Human, Female, Aedyr, Aristocrat Resolve/Con/Int Archer (Ranger): Oz Wood Elf, Female, The White That Wends, Hunter Might/Dex/Per (Resolve WAY DOWN) Crowd Control (Eothas Priest): Taylor Death Godlike (Head 2), Male, Old Valia, Artist Int/Might/Dex Defensive Support (Rogue): Calvin Human, Male, Rautai, Laborer Might/Int/Perception/Dex Offensive Support (Druid): Hobbes Human, Male, Rautai, Scholar Might/Int/Resolve Calvin and Hobbes are twins, by the way. They will have the same avatar.
  14. First one seems like it has more detail to work with down the line.
  15. Are we still on the "too low level" thing? They can set the level cap at 2 or 5. Hell, they can have no levels at all.
  16. I'm being a huge dork and staggering the game out so I hit the acheevs all on specific days or holidays.
  17. While the last sentence is true, there's nothing wrong with a contextual comparison.
  18. Acheevs in general are pretty neat. People that complain about visual rewards and challenges in a game kind of bug me.
  19. Let's also not forget that at least around 80k people who wind up with the game didn't buy it at retail to begin with. I know someone quoted wasteland 2 in over 3 mil steam libraries but so what? I accounted for 3 of those and I only backed wasteland 2 at the minimum level to get a copy of the game, which was something like 20 dollars. I just kept getting keys for it from other things. It has also been on steam sale for very low price multiple times. I would bet you the average Wasteland 2 copy price is 20 dollars at best, probably lower. At the same time, Wasteland 2 tripled the amount of money available for the game through early access. And discussions I've had with other game creators are pretty clear, normally kickstarter is a tiny portion of your overall profits. Kickstarter is not profit. At all. Let's repeat: Kickstarter donations are not profit.
  20. New tinting system is out. It's pretty cool. All my peeps now look absolutely fabulous. Especially Dorian.
