  1. I kind of took that as a 'superhero' kind of thing, where stronger souled people are like X-Men or whatever.
  2. The TotSC level cap was pretty good, it was quite hard to reach 161,000 XP. Once you did there was almost no content left in the game. The only reason it was like that though was to try and balance out the classes since they used different experience tables. this won't be a problem in P:E
  3. I would assume that a weapon that contains part of a trapped soul is magical, since magic is related to souls in the game IIRC. Also kind of depends on whether any beings have magic resistance in the game. Whether it would be better hitting then with a normal weapon etc
  4. You'll be able to wear armor when casting, I don't think it will make you fail the spell, it might make cast time longer though? There's got to be some penalty for it but % of cast failure won't be it.
  5. If they're handcrafting most of the world, level cap kind of seems pointless - they should have a measure of the total amount of experience points able to be earned in the game etc. It kind of depends on A. How they construct their ruleset B. How much content they put into the game C. How quickly experience points are gained, what the XP curve is. Hopefully they'll get it about as right as Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
  6. Actually I was pretty sure they said there'd be no Dark (Black) Elves in the game. I can't remember where I read that though. Brown Elves however ...
  7. The Witcher 1 did feel like a 'living world' to some extent. That would be great.
  8. On the topic of the rarity of magic item thread, that sort of got me thinking. Why does an item have to be magical to be good? Project Eternity is supposed to be a more technologically advanced world, why can't items just be ridiculously good quality, rather than magical. For instance There could be an inventor that has designed an absolutely cutting-edge musket (I don't think there will be arquebus in the game as they were matchlock, but there might be), it's not magical because he's not a wizard or a priest but it's still one of the best guns in the game. In Baldur's Gate 1, Full Plate armor was the second third best suit of armor in the game (Full Plate +2, Ankheg Plate then Full Plate). Obviously magical items have the potential to be better than normal items, but it would be cool to see actual technology be beneficial as well. Obsidian have already said that magic is not rare, but to give something a bonus (particularly a weapon), it doesn't necessarily have to be magical. Your thoughts?
  9. I am worried that the scaling will be more noticeable than the Baldur's Gates. To test someone should do a barebones run of the game doing no side content and then do another one doing more and see if the main plot is any different/harder. I haven't played an Obsidian game since NWN2 vanilla so I can't really comment on what they've been up to since then, but I've heard they've taken on more Bethesda-like scaling since.
  10. Someone from the UK, imo, always sounds better for Fantasy novel type stuff. I loved Roy Dotrice's readings of GRRM's A Song of Ice and Fire ... but I would say that is a longshot. http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/mm/audio/4s_9780739375983.mp3
  11. I think the ladies are sick of being mis-represented in games as well as the whole 'unrealism' thing.
  12. you mean You have been waylaid by enemies and must defend yourself
  13. My post wasn't about as a playable race per se. I was more interested to know how they were being handled in the world. Half-Elf is a simple one, it could simply be a background trait / sub-race. Aedyr Half-Elf (or whatever fancy name they give you). Blah blah blah, these bonuses. And that's a good question leif.
  14. I'm not really an Adventure Game person but I've seen Episode 1 of the DFA Documentary and the highlights reel and I am hoping that they follow suit. Adam mentioned in the recent Sorcerer's Place interview that they were looking at the way Double Fine Adventure are handling their post-kickstarter updates.
  15. Game won't use dice. I'm gonna guess it'll be using static numbers. That makes the most sense to me, although I wouldn't be surprised if there is a min-max damage threshhold (kind of like using dice). Reach weapons shouldn't be that hard to implement. It depends how they go about designing the game. If they borrow heavily from RTS game aspects such as Warcraft 3, reach weapons will not be a problem. In that game weapons all have a range. All you have to do is assign a weapon an attack range, in whatever measurement units they're using for the engine, and then that character will be able to attack from that range. This could be used for bows, crosswbows, slings and firearms as well.
  16. The dialogue writing will not be compromised at all by VO limitations. They will write it all first and then voice what they can, I assume.
  17. I think mine was a Macintosh Performa in '98 I got a HP Pavilion desktop PC. 17" CRT, Celeron 500MHz, 64MB ram, 8.4GB hdd, 2mb intel graphics
  18. I'm gonna have a guess and say that the next two will be both female, one Godlike, one Aumaua and they will be a Rogue and a Druid ? I don't think there'll be a Paladin, Chanter or Barbarian companion. But who knows. I would love to be wrong!
  19. Now obviously the final number of races has already been decided. However this leaves me wondering whether the half-breeds of races will be featuring at all in the game. Half-elves are probably the main one I'd be wondering about, I wonder whether they will be included as a sub-race of Elf in the game. From the lore it seems at least in Aedyr communites half elves would be common. In Dark Sun at least, there was a half-dwarf race - the Mul (Uncommon due to human mothers dying during the pregnancy process or something) I wonder how cross-gender breeding works in Project Eternity Are humans, elves, dwarves (and orlans?) compatible breeders? Will the cross-races be included at all in the game? absolutely 100% not a romance thread
  20. Yeah I think most people prefer the Infinity Engine style large map for an RPG of this sort.
  21. Really good interview, squeeze dat new information out So that's 3 human companions, 1 elf, 1 dwarf, 1 orlan ... now just waiting on an Aumaua and a Godlike companion. We also have 4 males 2 females, so the next two will probably be female?
  22. Tim Cain said there was going to be food. That doesn't mean there'll be a mechanic involving it though.
