In-game achievements, trophies, popups etc
DreamingVoid replied to poetic obsidian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I absolutely despise achievements which sole purpose is to applaud the player for picking a lock or opening a door, and other such nonsense, and I wholeheartedly believe they are a waste of developer time. That being said I acknowledge the fact that there are games out there that get achievements right, but I do not believe there's a place for them in PE. And I'm actually quite concerned to see that the Steam version will feature achievements but the GOG version won't. Which probably means the Steam version will get a bunch of junk achievements.

Elder Scrolls style make your own spells and magical artifacts
For everyone saying no; he's not asking Obsidian to implement a copy of how Spellmaking worked in The Elder Scrolls where it was intentionally made broken, as was Alchemy and Enchanting, and thus could be exploited for your hearts content. OP. Perhaps it was a mistake to mention Elder Scrolls Yes for spellmaking in PE! or PE2.

Theme music you can hum
DreamingVoid replied to GhoulishVisage's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I think the Drakensang series had a pretty decent soundtrack, ranging from merry fantasy to dark and brooding. It's worth a watch.

A dog companion?
In Obsidian's defense, I'd say Okku from Mask of the Betrayer was a pretty awesome companion. Other than that, I agree with you.

Crime, brawling, and reputation
I hope they implement this system, or atleast something like it: http://www.pocketplane.net/virtue Basically, you have a reputation and a virtue meter. Reputation is what the other people think of you, and virtue represents the morals of the party. So you could be a psychotic killer but still be a respected member of society because nobody knows about it. I promise if they go for a karma system I'll fart in a balloon and send it to their HQ.

I predict that this board will temporarily die tomorrow.
They should have made it optional.

Saving games
Because we want this game to be fun, not just for us, but for everyone. And while we can't prevent people from ruining their own game (as they are allowed to do), If it's within the power of the game designers to encourage players to play the game in a way that will be more enjoyable for them, why shouldn't they? Wait, so you're telling us that you know better than we do about what is best for us when it comes to having fun? "NO! You're having fun the WRONG WAY! Do this instead you quick saving philistine!" Are you out of your ****ing mind? I think sometimes the devs do know better, yes. Study after study shows that people are really bad at determining what will make them happy. If a player intends to save whenever the game gets a little challenging, then yes, I think I know better, I think the devs know better and they would be well within their rights to protect the integrity of their game and save people from themselves. The problem lies in that there is no clear solution which only works against the exploiting of features, but doesn't punish players who are using features the way they're intended. So you and your little protégé knows what's best for everyone? how cute. What an utterly useless thread, sadly one of many on this particular forum.

Gore
Just have a gore/violance slider, it's the easiest solution and thus the best.

Monks in Project Eternity
DreamingVoid replied to TheDogProfessor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)How much do we know about Monks in PE again?

Magic and ingredients
If done in an intelligent and realistic way, why not. But I think they should restrict it to certain unique spells so it doesn't degrade into; "Blast, I've run out of [ingredient], I can't cast any fireballs!". Or maybe you should be able to "slot" ingredient(s) into spells, enhancing it or creating a new spell entirely. Doesn't necessarily have to be combat related. Like, you slot a powdered ice golem heart into your water blast 'card' and use it on a river, the river freezes and allows you to walk over it for a short ammout of time.

How long do you think until PE is finished?
DreamingVoid replied to Infiltrator_SF's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'd like 3 years, but they are on a budget that won't last that long. If they say they need 18 months for a game with all stretch goals met, then I believe them.

3.5 Million - Congratulations Obsidian!
Fantastic! I wish I could be at Obsidian right now just to see their reactions, I imagine they are pretty happy.

Gender Prejudice
Was about the say the same. I think a lot of people ingored OPs post and just went in all guns blazing.
-
Gender Prejudice
I like that, believe me, I do. But I just feel it would be a little bit.. too much "rainbow" if all these races, cultures, religions, & politics found a way to coexist peacefully with eachother. I want it to be some strife in the world, one the the player can influence and hopefully change, for better or worse. I can tell you now I would go straight for the "Celtic model".
-
Gender Prejudice
Both. I mean, why not? It has been done plenty of times in video games, books, & movies, old a new alike. It adds flavour to the game. Who are these forest dwarves and where might I find them? they sound like my kind of people.
-
Gender Prejudice
I do believe that by racial prejudice the OP meant something more along the lines of "Dwarves hating Elves", which is quite common.
-
Gender Prejudice
I like your ideas, and I have no doubt Obsidian will implement "gender prejudice" into the game seeing as it will feature several different cultures. One potentially interesting theme could be about the humans and Elves who arrived from across the sea only to find Elves living there, and the immigrant Elves feel closer akin to the humans than to their distant cousins, most likely because of their cultural/religious/political differences.
