  1. How morally binding are reached stretch goals for the developers? Well, how morally bound someone is depends on the persons view on ethics as a whole, which can vary drastically from person to person. What you find a binding promise, to another may be a casual suggestion. It is all a risk and how one assesses it should be determined more on the character of the company/person in charge. I think Obsidian have easily proved themselves and they will most definitely deliver on every promise, especially since none of their stretch goals are outrageous.
  2. It is good that they listened to fans opinions and desires. I was concerned about adding Paladins and Bards, but they added a nice twist to both classes, they do not seem to be your typical stereotype.
  3. People need to remember that Obsidian can not rush out lots of new stretch goals on a whim. They need to plan it and take into consideration if what they want is feasible with the time and money restrictions they have, they can not make promises they might not be able to keep. Obsidian have done well in keeping ahead of the quickly achieved stretch goals.
  4. Bioware through all their faults did create an interesting mechanic with importing saves to affect the game world. Unfortunately they were not good at it, either forgetting obvious consequences or outright ignoring them because it would be a hassle. Obsidian love their choices, unfortunately they have not had a regular frachise to show if they can have cause and effect also, this is a great chance. Project Eternity has an advantage over the likes of Dragon Age/Mass Effect, they can plan ahead and avoid writing themselves into a corner. True that we do not need every single action to have cause and effect in the future, but as for big events it really would be great. I would not say such consideration would not cost much more to make for each sequel, but definitely would require a lot of thinking and planning rather than running with fun ideas for the sake of it. If I kill off a race, I expect it to stay killed off! Not bring them back because you thought they "Look cool", damn you Bioware!
  5. Being another Icewind Dale would not be a bad thing, it was a fantastic game. But you are right Lysen, it did have drawbacks, the main one being that it had a linear narrative and combat focus. From what we have been told Project Eternity will have the artistic sdie of Icewind Dale, but the nonlinear story telling of Baldur's Gate. As mentioned by Uomoz, they can keep story details to themselves, I doubt many want the experience ruined by knowing what happens at every turn.
  6. Dynamic music switching can be greatly jarring, listening to casual melodic music then suddenly things get epic and you are attacked by a... rat. That said it does work well in some cases, like when a dragon suddenly swoops down on you in Skyrim and it plays that epic track, you know the one I mean. The kind of music should depend on the situation without too much sudden change, another bad thing is drowning a game in music. I never played Kingdoms of Amalur, but your description of how they do it sounds good Justin.
  7. Drugs are fine to include in mature games, so long as their are uses for it and visible consequences including companion opinions. How about ground up fairy bones?

I would not use my real or nickname, I would dedicate it to my brother and use his chosen online name of Ildánach, he died a few years ago and he was a bigger fan of infinity engine games than even I am. He would have absolutely loved this project. 1a) Does the issue of data protection influence this decision? No. 2) What message would you enter? A general saying, idiom, or something very personal? Personal, I would refer to the Eternity idea of souls. "Awaken soon to the endless cycle" That all said, I will unfortunately not be handing over $500, it is too rich for me.
  9. I will admit having additional musical score by Sam Hulick is making me consider buying the game. Even though I already have two copy's.
  10. What makes or breaks an rpg is not cooldowns, it is story and choice.
  11. It would be good, but it might be a conflict of interests as Obsidian now has their own competing isometric rpg brand.
  12. Looks a bit messy, slightly cut and paste in areas. I can understand why you do not like it. But I will add, the UI did not make BG what it was. Maybe the extra month or so they have will go into improving it.

  15. Overhaul really have to prove themselves with this franchise, so much pressure is on them from such diehard fans. I wish them luck, they probably need it. We all want more of the same classic rpgs of the past, it is why we are even here. At least overhaul are willing to take the risk on such a project and if they ever do make a BG3 I will gladly take it, after all their is no other way such a project would ever happen.
  16. I believe anyone who buys the game should get the reward, 1$ does not get the game. As for higher rewards, they do not add content, they add ability to design content. You are trying to dismiss my personal opinion by applying insane logic that is not even applicable. Rewarding those that give that much, but anyone that gives less get a middle finger? Even if they gave $25 pledge with a $25 addon for beta access? No, I can not bring myself to see it from any other way than being ungrateful to those that can not pledge more. As for modding it all in, I agree it is likely and probably will happen regardless, but that would not be entirely legal, nor a reasonable compromise.
  17. They said it would just be cosmetic. But I am of the standpoint that content is content, even if it is a consumable beer or a three hour quest. To me it is like penalising a fan just because they are not as rich as the next man, every fan deserves gratitude for their support. I think I also read that they are considering it an unlock after completion of the game but accessible from the start for $50 plus pledge, which I think would be a good compromise.
  18. No one would be upset if everyone got the same game, even exclusive cosmetic items upset people. From what I gather the only people that really love exclusive items are the people that sell games, because that is an easy way to make more money. Their is no logical reason for any player to like content exclusivity, it divides player bases, ruins the experience for those that love to obsessively collect in game and makes regular players feel like they are paying for an inferior version of the game. Additionally most people want everyone to have the same game, if you followed Shadowrun Kickstarter the community got very upset when they decided to make part of the game storyline only accessible to higher Kickstarter payment. They quickly changed their mind when they realised people do not like such corporate tactics. Such practices are common with companies like EA, which should be a fine example of why one should not do it. As for Obsidian, this pet thing should be for everyone, it is the kind of thing that would make me rethink my paypal purchase, if I could.
  19. Three Million seems very likely, especially seems the big Kickstarter projects always pickup near the end. One thing is definite, all the current stretch goals will be achieved.
  20. Some just grew used to the old one already, people often do not like change. Personally I like the new logo, it works well.
  21. I never like anything on Facebook, not even when asked. But for this I make the exception.
  22. The poll already indicated most people say no, why do we need another poll? As for instruments, I trust Justin Bell to make the best decision, the three tracks he has revealed so far shows he knows what he is doing.
