So why make it 75% in the first place? It's just an annoyance until you cap the XP then. Because from RPG perspective, the inactive members aren't really doing anything so they don't gain as much experience as the one going around traveling. This is just a toned down version because jRPG takes it to the next level of not giving them exp at all. The only real flaw from not taking companions along is that they don't grow through special quest dialogue which affects the reputation point they have with you and your other companions.

Special boats?
Zeitzbach replied to MaximilianXimenez's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Royal Deadfire gives you a freaking submarine on completion of their alliance. But upgraded Junk is still the best ship. -
You can do all faction quest until "The coming storm" is triggered (story quest) where the last set of quests will happen. Everything until then don't lock alliance. And even then, all of them will just give the quest first and your faction won't be locked until it is completed outside the Royal Deadfire one that will trigger and lock you in the area as soon as you accept.

It's like this since PoE 1. Inactive party member only gains like 75% of the gained exp. It's not really a problem because doing every quests in the game gives excess amount of exp that even inactive member will hit level 20 at the end.

You need to buy the most expensive sails and hull upgrades for the ship. It's also funny because upgraded Junk is way better than the ghost ship in every way. More cannon, more speed, more slot. "But the wind manipulation" Darn legendary pirate ship almost got sunk from battling 2 deadfire ships and taking AGES to get into boarding distance.

Wizard is a pit of arcanic knowledge, 2 spell by level is a shame and it's just a spam fight after fight. Boring and brainless for me. A good possibility will be to custom grimoires. For the moment it's a real lack of liberty and a real nerf of gameplay. Wizard is a versatile swiss knife, an apparently weak swisslife. Lack of available skills isn't really the real issue. Most people will always stick to the favorite spell they are used to. This is kinda why everyone always use stuff like Chillfog/Slicken at all level and never really bother to waste their resource point on other spells even if they have em in the grimoire. The only time they ever switch it around is when they run into encounter script and it states right there that a wizard can clear this encounter with X spell so they just swap it in. Wizard can be a pit of knowledge but even the archwizard (the top dog like concel, arkemyr and llengrath) has limited knowledge on subject outside their specialization and spells they can use. This really fits with the world more than the system in PoE1. If the wizard is an evocation expert, he should be excepted to know more about evocation than a bunch of self-buff or conjuration spell. The school system is actually implemented with this change.

PotD being too easy atm has absolutely nothing to do with BoB though. BoB is optional. PotD being undertuned isn't. Aiming the pitchfork at BoB in an attempt to bandage fix PotD isn't the right direction.

Flag allows you to sail on certain area without getting attacked because you are part of their faction. You don't really lose anything for attacking bounty ships. I just name my ship SS Furfest with Purple Fox as my flag because it's hilarious.

The "I suffered more than you" mentality will never end. They disabled BoB and added achievmenet? "Why is there no 'Solo only' achievement?!?!" They added solo achievement? "HAha you play op class" The player decide to play the class considered to be weakest? "Haha I killed this at level 1" It's a single-player game and we are all on the same level playing field. People need to stop sitting on the backseat developer chair and just play the game. If it becomes too easy for them then go ahead and strip all the equipment, just don't demand everyone to follow.

How to make money?
Zeitzbach replied to Leafar's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
When you start fighting enemies above level 10-11, they start dropping exceptional/superb gears that sell for thousands a pop. -
How many acts are there?
Zeitzbach replied to Melusina's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Pretty much all rpg are like that. 80% of the contents are side quest. The main quest is always short. It just so happens that the ending can be affected by the side quests giving it the illusion of length. -
DnD has more houserule and random mumbojumbo while Pillars is a cRPG where mechanic is way more important. Balance is very important. And it doesn't help that Wizards are insanely good anyway. Ice Fireball is lolgood and Slicken reapply every seconds. I was keeping some bosses permanently Prone'd with a t1 spell. Wilting wind is a massive AoE. Gaze is a super strong petrify and Ring of Death also works on bosses as a giant AoE finisher. There are ALOT of good spell unless you're looking for a "1 cast 10 kills".

Eders quest
Zeitzbach replied to Dokuhime's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
If you have the map already somewhat explored, the ship will appear on your map as a named ship for you to easily track. The quest dialogue also tells you that the ship is heading toward where Eothas is (Magran's Teeth) so the search range is very limited. -
I think we have to bring Maia along to get her to stay by convincing her that Royal Deadfire ain't doing a great job having her kill civilians and all and it will only cause more harm through dialogues. What happens if you flop her companion quest anyway? It does lead to good people dying so maybe not succeeding it is how you get her to stop being an assassin.

Requirement are actually easy when you know that you can actually use skills while having the weapon equipped just like in PoE1. For example, The Tree Arquebus says "inflict 30 agility" which are stuff like hobbled and paralysis. I have it on Aloth and just have him throw Iced Fireblal for easy AoE paralysis and use the ice beam which inflicts multiple hit with hobble on each hit. Bam, done in a single fight. You can try using the tangle root scroll instead on other chars as that's a giant multi-hit hobbled.
