Volunteer Labor?
nikolokolus replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I think it's partly because of the crowdfunding. All of a sudden we've got 75K amateur, wannabe game designers.

Volunteer Labor?
nikolokolus replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Here's the thing with user created submissions: Not all areas of expertise are created equal. For example, If there somebody out there with extensive experience working in Unity and creating art assets or 3D models, that is something that can be glanced at in a moment and it's easy to tell if the person is a hack or not, with writing samples it takes time to proof-read things. Secondly, this is a new IP with absolutely no published source material. To get user created writing consistent with the level of the in-house stuff, there'd have to be an awful lot of back and forth between Obsidian and anybody trying to integrate their writing into this new milieu -- and that's just assuming that they've properly weeded out the hacks and have volunteer writers that know what the hell they're doing.

Volunteer Labor?
nikolokolus replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I can just imagine the poor bastich at Obsidian that would have to wade through these submissions. Good god, talk about soul crushing work.

OMG
And they've already said that in expert mode, your companions die when they hit zero hitpoints ... and there's no raise dead in PE ... satisfied? And let's be real, expert mode is the only real mode as far as I'm concerned.

Volunteer Labor?
nikolokolus replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)As a general rule I hate the holy hell out of fanfic ... so I'm gonna go with "no" on this one.

Play PE with a controller?
This post has to be a trolling, right? Bravo, well done.

How does the stamina/health mechanism apply to the enemy?
Go look up the game Darklands...
-
OMG
FYI. The health/stamina thing is straight out of Darklands. Old skool enough for ya?

OMG
Play on expert mode. Death is real an there's no raise dead.

What type of quest journal would you like to have?
Whatever form it takes, key information needs to be easily found. I've never found the exercise of scouring notes for a nugget of information particularly gratifying in games. That said, the tack taken by games like Skyrim isn't the way to go. It doesn't need to be dumbed down but it does need to be usable.

Ability to Fly
nikolokolus replied to dagkurtanderson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)So what happens when we fly out of frame? The camera is fixed isometric. If you want to fly pick up Divinity 2 from gog.com.

Obsidian and new IPs
nikolokolus replied to GhoulishVisage's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'll echo the anti-piracy sentiment. It's killed PC gaming, more than consoles, and more than some nefarious publisher led conspiracy to dumb games down and make them hybridized pieces of poo, it's rampant piracy that has killed the user space. When I was much younger I found it pretty easy to justify piracy - especially when it was so damned easy to steal a game - but people really need to smarten up.

How do you want armour to work?
nikolokolus replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Depending on the armor, I think it would make sense to have a chance for deflection and then whatever gets through is reduced with some kind of damage reduction. It might even be workable to implement blunt, piercing and slashing effectiveness for different armor types?

Promised a dev i'd play Alpha Protocol after backing Eternity
I too had been scared off by a bunch of negative reviews, but I finally took the plunge last week when it was for sale on Steam ... So far all I've done is the first little intro section, but it seems like a pretty decent game. There are a few niggles (the hacking mini-game just plain irritates me and I'm not a fan of dialogue wheels) but I'm not getting the "72" metacritic vibe. I guess Obsidian forgot to send the game journos a lot of free swag or didn't buy enough ads on their game sites.

Crossing from fun to frustrating by design.
So X-Com is hard ... and that means P:E will be too hard and will make you feel drained? Orite ...

Two handed swords
As a companion piece to weapons with different uses and properties, I would really like to have armor with plusses and minuses against certain weapons. It could add a lot of depth and thought to combat and character building.

What type of quest journal would you like to have?
A real journal with a search-able index and the ability to sort by priority. NWN2 did a pretty good job with the last aspect.

Would you like for an NPC to be able to betray your PC?
I'm all for negative faction with an NPC leading to the possibility of betrayal. But in conjunction with this I'd prefer that the amount of their approval/disapproval be kept hidden to an extent- that is, no numbers visible to the player, but reflected in their conversation choices. Probably more work for the developers, but it would help to keep players on their toes and remove some of the mini game, meta gaming aspects of having explicit numbers attached. Come to think of it, New Vegas handled things pretty well.

Please no more "go here" quest markers!
It's kind of interesting. Once I found and installed immersive hud for skyrim and turned all markers off, it made the game a helluva lot more fun. One of worst "improvements" in modern games has to be the GPS like waypoint.
