  1. Really? I found this to be one of the most annoying battle music tracks in the BG series. Or actually games. After the second battle with this piece i turned of the music until I was out of the dungeon...
  2. This is bugging me as well. The game seems to either play environmental sounds or not, without much fading depending on distance.
  3. Maybe because they were actually neither interactive nor alive-feel: Too much negative feedback about rotating leaf patch textures and grass animations, that don't seem motivated by wind (they just randomly swayed) and that also don't react to characters walking through.
  4. Because they'd have to re-render the whole scene that is stuck to that plane to match the new perspective. The same probably applies for all the maps used for lighting etc.
  5. Does anyone else here have a Rift DK? Because it's great Horribly pixellated and at times nausating, but a very fresh and surprisingly natural experience for such a clunky piece of hardware Thanks to OLED really suited for Space Games - haven't felt space that way, black blacks with low persistence really add to it. And there's a suiting, small Kickstarter Project: Darkfield is a CO-OP only dogfight game. Straightforward satisfaction of base gamer instincts and damn nice on the Rift
  6. There is, but it's not bad for innovation it seems: The manufacturing process is an issue, but until the smaller process nodes are viable, AMD and nVidia have to find other ways to keep the power dissipation of their cards under control while still delivering higher performance with newer cards. nVidia showed one way to sucessfully do that recently with the launch of the GTX 970/980, with a more sophisticated and responsive power control (here) - they still spike up to 300W, but this is compensated immediately, so the average consumption is very appealing, unless overclocked. And possibly puts quite some strain on the PSU, I'd imagine AMD might come up with another way to deal with the issue, as rumors suggest, with "Fiji", there might be a new memory technology in use, allowing to severly reduce power loss and increase performance in this part of the GPU-equation. Also, better cooling of crucial components can help keep power consumption in check, as demonstrated with the 295x2, or anyone who put an aftermarket cooler on a Tahiti / Hawaii card.
  7. Hm, nothing's easier than pushing a GPU to its limits Just crank up all the graphics options in a game, apply supersampling / use higher resolution than your screen provides ("downsampling") etc., until your fps begin to sink - from that point, it's your GPU that bottlenecks again, and thus you have found a setting for the game in question where the visuals are the best they get with the framerate you're having [edit]Anglais...
  8. gladestone: you haven't seen his absurdly racist and trolling content then, since it has been edited by the mods (thankfully!) He was not bashed just for liking RE4. It's everyone's right to love RE4, but these two things about the RE4-arguments strike me as... not very carefully thought about: 1. To love and play that game because of its animations 2. To compare it to Pillars of Eternity, which has neither genre, rendering techniques, target audience, ... actually anything non-superficial in common with it.
  9. Up to here, I can where these opinions come from, even agree with some of it. But that: Any inside information about the company's assets / liabilities you care to share with us and are any of our business?
  10. Serious? I found them easier in this update than previous updates. In fact I've found every fight seems to have been toned down quite considerably. Hm... If the cowled dwarf no longer has 165 deflection in the current, I might give it another try. *starts game*
  11. Why toon? I'm not playing a toon... Currently, I'm playing as a Moon Godlike Druid character, horns really fit As for the game after its release, I don't know yet An Orlan Barbarian is a funny thing to imagine, and would be less mainstream according to the poll, so that would be interesting as well. Or a Mage of some kind, because I love the way the Grimoires work
  12. I'd say "hi", but there's that gun... oO
  13. I think what says more about his preferences is that he plays RE4 *because of its animations* xD And on topic: Apparently, WL2 has changed a lot during backer beta phase and still undergoes balancing changes. So one lesson from this could be to keep the mechanics as simple as possible, so they're easier to tweak with less unforeseeable side effects. [edit] Ok, so he's just gone full retard. Reported.
  14. Portraits - not sure I got all the new ones, nor that all of them are new (haven't played the beta much, and haven't created a female char so far)
  15. Situation: Started a new game with a Moon Godlike Ranger. Leveling up from 2 to 3, he got the "class unlock" of Hardened Veil besides the Ranger-esque Marked Prey. Its description states that it's a Wizard ability. Expected: Ranger unlocks new Ranger abilities at level up. Or none. But not Wizard abilities. Reproduce: Start new game Create Ranger Level up to Level 3
  16. In order to be able to start the beta from Steam, F-Secure users have to set their DeepGuard settings to "compatibility mode", i.e. lower their security settings, which is/was also true for Stick Of Truth. With the most recent update of the Antivirus however, the backer beta *.exe gets removed completely as a "Trojan.Generic. 11749746" I'd report this to F-Secure, but in order to upload the *.exe for verification, I'd have to get it out of quarantine, and the Antivirus won't currently let me... So anyone else who still has access to PillarsOfEternity.exe, please submit it as a "False Positive" to https://analysis.f-secure.com/portal/login.html Dear OE, please take this up with F-Secure and make sure they know your games now and in the future! Thank you
  17. Good points. If the physical copy of the collector's edition ends up being a Steam version, I'm going to be severely disappointed - I pledged for the physical copy to really, actually own the game, and Steam would be the opposite of that. I share your concerns for the different versions on different platforms and patches as well.
  18. That is irrelevant. Correct. Because neither hardware, nor OS, nor drivers, nor ventilation (your mother's hot computer) matter when talking about a game's performance. It is sufficient to know that game X runs with settings Y with a subjective performance of A, to determine why game P*, with unknow settings in an unknown hardware and software environment** runs with subjective performance of C***. [edit] *: currently in beta state **: not game P's native environment ***: and unknown subjective performance on other systems with unknown components and unknown software environment, that are actually the main concern of this topic as stated in the first post
  19. [Description of the issue] Summoning a blight with my druid character worked fine, but the "creature" will be of no use. It was never able to attack, even when an enemy was engaging it in melee. [Reproduce] 1) Create druid character 2) Engage some enemies in battle 3) Cast a blight summoning spell 4) Try and select that blight creature and have it move somewhere 5) Because it won't move, lure an enemy close to it 6) Run away with your other characters in order to have the enemy engage the blight 7) If the enemy is attacking the blight at close range, try to attack it with blight. Otherwise go to step 5 and repeat [Expected behaviour] 1) Blight is able to move 2) Blight is able to attack
  20. Haven't cast it either and while at some point, the cowled dwarf had 155 defense, after 10 minutes of futile attempts at hitting him, he was up to 165, and two of my characters were fatigued, with single digit defenses. The fight was very slow even with the other enemy characters' lower defenses... http://abload.de/img/defenceh2ctq.jpg [edit] changed image to link to preserve forum's width [edit2] played at normal difficulty setting, with expert mode on, if that has any influence on this issue
  21. While I agree that a normal folder like "My Games" should be used for savegames and an *.ini / *.xml for options and settings, a small correction about Appdata. %appdata% is not a "privileged" folder or anything, it's user dependent and user accessible. I'm on a non-admin account and can access %appdata%, which is C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming, just fine. It is not uncommon nor bad practice for software to store user dependent settings there.
  22. As a software developer as well as a gamer, the backer beta and the flood of feedback really got me thinking. By involving the customer base, which is a potential fan base in case of the game, into the development process at this stage, Obsidian has on one hand gained a lot more feedback than it would have otherwise, so they can polish the game to the testers' specific liking in addition to fixing more bugs. On the other hand, the players now had a look at a truly unfinished product. In some cases, a very thorough look. The beta players have developed an eye for inconsistencies, rule flaws and bugs. I think the beta players will not be able to enjoy the game upon its release (or after the first one or two post-release patches ) the way they would have otherwise. Instead of looking for and finding PoE's strengths, they will look for and find its weaknesses. All the other players will be profiting from the work the beta players put into the beta, but this part of the potential fan base will probably not turn into actual fans of the game. What do you think about that aspect? How do you work against such tendencies in your own attitude towards Pillars of Eternity? Or am I just over-analyzing things only related to my own point of view?
  23. My second impressions on the patched build have been way more positive than the first ones. Sure, there may be fundamental design issues still, but the game seems very playable now, and it looks (except the characters at creation time / in inventory) and reads and sounds good. Really pleased with the new lvl 1 Spell icons Now optically, the one thing that bugs me is the 1px-circles around the characters when in Scout mode, especially the two around the NPCs and the yellow ones where the party is supposed to move to after clicking on the floor. I hope these areas will be shown in a more attractive manner in the final game. Regarding gameplay, the movement speed is still annoying, especially the one of the enemies (Spiders!), even though they seem to have improved the game's flow - or my tastes have adapted. Also, the areas are to busy / crowded with enemy groups - yes, reminiscent of IWD 2 in a bad way, as Sensuki mentioned above. All in all I'm quite confident that I'll be able to enjoy it a lot upon release, mostly by ignoring potential improvements to the game's design mentioned in these forums, and play it for how it is
  24. Known Issue, and I also stumbled across this. It's actually not even the Windows language setting, but the locale that influences the initial language setting of the game. You can change it to English in the game's options fortunately I hope they change the language setting logic until release (however, since I'll be using the DRM free version, for me at least the Steam language setting won't be relevant then).
