  1. Riloma Nebcha Sounds effeminate.
  2. Man, we really need a new game to talk about around here. I don't care what it is at this point. I mean, they moved the NWN forums over to BioWare. And to be honest I'm probably not going to play NWN2 anyway because my pathetic computer wouldn't be able to handle it. I have a computer for word processing and internet for the most part. Not PC gaming. That wasn't what I got it for. But it became that after I played the original KOTOR on Xbox. Now I find myself buying all sorts of games for my computer, and I'm surprised the damn thing hasn't blown up yet. So, unless they release NWN2 for Xbox as well, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to pass. So, yeah, we need a new game around here to talk about. Hopefully not K3.
  3. Lucas says RotS not for kids.
  4. Dude...I have to say that the shot of Palpatine morphing into Sidious and charging Mace and the other Jedi while letting out that high-pitched wale was utterly terrifying. And then later, hurling those senate platforms at Yoda while firing his lightning bolts and laughing maniacally was just too cool. I f****** can't wait for this movie. I've been thinking about it all morning. I mean, this is STAR WARS. They didn't even have to make the first two. This is the one that everyone's been waiting for. This is the one where we see what Star Wars is truly all about. "Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?" Edit: Damn. So I guess THAT'S the power of the True Sith. No one can stand against even one of them. Including five or six Jedi Masters. Best. Trailer. Ever.
  5. Episode III trailer Edit: I just found out from a friend here at work that this is most likely a fan trailer, not the official one that is out today. But it's still cool. Sorry for any confusion.
  6. Personally, I'd like to see OE move on and develop their own original titles. I mean, K2 was a good title to put them on the map (despite it's many and well documented problems). And NWN2 can be another positive step forward in enhancing their image. I only say that because I think OE has some awesome potential. And I would love to see what they're truly capable of without the time and content restraints placed on them by a publisher. I know they might be too small at this point in time to just do their own thing and produce independent games, and that they need to sign contracts with publishers for the time being to sustain the company. But I would love to truly see what OE is all about. You could see the potential with K2. And, btw, I know I'm like six years late with this one, but I just got my first copy of Planescape: Torment and Soulbringer in the mail earlier this week. I also got Fallout and Fallout 2. I just started PS:T and I could see it's influence on K2 instantly. I mean, the Nameless One waking up on a slab in the mortuary with dead bodies all around and some skull named Morte coming up and talking with you, is little different than the Exile, the nameless Jedi, waking up in a kolto tank on an abandoned mining station, also surrounded by the dead. The Exile, for all intents and purposes, is walking up in a mortuary. The deeper I go into Torment the more I see what the devs were trying to do with K2. And ultimately, why the latter missed the mark and the former is a classic. You can't translate Torment's themes and tones into Star Wars. They are totally different. I mean, Torment grabbed me instantly. It is utterly engrossing to me. But the sheer raw tone and feel of Torment would never work in a Star Wars game. I think the devs, on orders from LA, were trying to make Empire Strikes Back. So they thought, "Well, let's do what we did in Torment and translate that into a thematic language appropriate for Star Wars." But you just can't do that. Torment, right from the very start deals with themes of life and death that go far beyond what our notions of human mortality is. I mean, the Nameless Ones conversation with Dieonarra on the first floor of the Mortuary was heart-wrenching to me. She was this tormented spirit that knows her love is always cursed to die a death that will erase all that he once held dear. And he is always cursed to live a life of living death. Torment immediatly comes right out of the gate hard with this notion of True Death. And I immediately thought about the notion of going into the Unknown Regions to face the True Sith. It's just totally becoming more and more obvious to me why I think K2 fell short. You just can't do a variant of Torment's raw themes and put them into a Star Wars game. At least I don't think you can. They're just so different. I mean, Torment has me utterly hooked. Whereas K2 has always felt strained and convaluted to me. So I would love to see OE get away from K3 and do their own stuff because I'm dying to see what they can REALLY do. Leave K3 for somebody else.
  7. No it is not possible because, as has already been stated above, the game is not Live enabled. The real question should be, "Are they going to release an expansion for K2 for the Xbox, since it is not Live enabled?" But we already know the answer to that question is no, which was already stated by Chris Avellone. You never say never but it won't happen at least for the foreseeable future.
  8. I know this might sound a little harsh, but I could care less what happens to the Exile. I really couldn't. Primarily because I have no attachment to the character whatsoever. So, whomever develops K3 can have the Exile mopping up floors in some upscale apartment building in the remains of Upper Taris for all I care. That pretty much goes for most of the NPCs that traveled with him/her. But Revan...my thoughts and feelings on Revan is something entirely different. First of all, let's just put this one thing to rest right now. Mostly for people that seem to disagree with what I'm about to type here. Knights of the Old Republic IS REVAN'S TALE. Period. Plain and simple. There are no if, ands, or buts about it. It would be like saying the Star Wars movies are not about Anakin Skywalker. Sure you could make the argument that the original trilogy was about Luke and his journey. But by the time you get to ROTJ, you discover that even Luke's saga was only a means to an end. And only a small part of a much larger story: the redemption of Anakin Skywalker. As Anakin was the main focus and thrust of the Star Wars movies, so Revan is the main focus and thrust of the KOTOR era. Nuff said. Now, on to K3. I would obviously like to play Revan again. And if we had to start off as a new PC, then it should only serve to reconcile Revan's story somehow. I wouldn't even be opposed to playing as Revan and Bastila's (or Carth's, which would be interesting because Dustil might figure into the equation somehow) secret offspring or something. But whatever OE (or whoever) decides to do with K3, it should leave nothing left to the imagination when it comes to Revan's fate. And by the way, I was really disappointed with how they handled Bastila in K2. If they were going to include her at all then she should've been either a) one of the Jedi Masters you had to find; or b) and NPC you encountered on Malachor V, broken and nearly deranged. Kind of like how we first encountered Freyyar in the Shadowlands. And then maybe after you fought her or talked with her, she would join you (if you are LS) and help you confront Sion and Traya in the Trayus Academy. After all, if there is one person that knows anything about betrayal, it would be Bastila. And what she is doing is not out of loyalty to the Republic, but out of love to Revan. The way she was portrayed in K2, she was just some NPC hanging out with Carth on Citadel Station wondering if you've heard anything about Revan. I mean, if you never played K1 you would've thought that that chick hanging out in Carth's office was just some groupee or something. You would have no idea who she was. Primarily because you are only able to see Bastila if you say certain things and have a certain amount of skills to access hidden files in the droids. But you see Carth no matter what. Lame. So, yeah. I would like to see Revan have a major role in K3. Maybe even Bastila. But, based on what I've heard about OEs possible plans for a K3, they would take the series into a completely different direction than the first two games. So I doubt we'll see Revan or whats-his-name ever again.
  9. I know I probably shouldn't even ask this because I know what the answer is but I just figured...hey, ya never know. But, any hope of trying to do anything to help out the Xbox users?? I know, I know. The game isn't Live enabled and Microsoft wouldn't allow a patch to be downloaded anyway, but I just thought...I mean, I was just wondering if...ah, hell. I don't know what I'm asking. :"> Patch away.
  10. He already said in the Way Off-Topic forum that the forums would remain open for the time being. It was a reply to Servant of Eru's PM. If you haven't visited Eru's thread, you should. There's some good info in there.
  11. No, they shouldn't put K2 over in the databank, imo. K2 was too unfinished and there were too many plot-holes and the fate of the characters was too vague and glossed over for the sake of completion. And if you thought canonizing Revan was tough, try canonizing the Exile. A character with not only no official gender, no official alignment, and no official look, but also no official name. How would they even begin to explain all of that and also try to somehow streamline all the possible outcomes of his or her fate. Plus, let's face it. K2 was not in the Star Wars tradition. I liked the game but, it just didn't feel like Star Wars. If it was then I would say K2 would've had a good chance to be canonized. But in it's current form? No.
  12. I know I'm probably the lone voice here with this one, but I have never been able to convert Handmaiden even with a high influence and learning all of the sparring leves with her. And that's after taking her everywhere with me and (this might be a glitch) doing things that make her comment on how brave or noble she thinks I am for doing these things. I would get LS points but no Influence points with her. And the funny thing is, after my last duel with her, I have enough Influence for her to make her question her oath to Atris and think about if she wants to train or not. But it's always, "I have to thing about this." And it's never brought up again. I've tried to ask her onboard the Hawk and running around everywhere. But I get no love. I will say, though, there was one thing I noticed that I did that Handmaiden wasn't happy about. On Nar Shaddaa when I was talking to that bounty hunter that was explaining to me the bounty hunter truce, and who the big-wigs were on the moon, he started telling me about the two beautiful twins that were hunting me. Being the big, male dummy that I am I chose "Two beautiful Twi'leks hunting me? What could be bad about that?" Cut to Handmaiden glaring at me for like 5 seconds. I was all, uh-oh, she didn't like that at all. Crap. But I didn't lose any Influence with her so I don't know what gives. I think it's all about having the right party members with you in the right situations, and choosing the right dialogue options to gain the right amount of Influence to convert a particular character. But it's hard to know all of that sometimes. I guess that was OEs way of making the game have a high replayability factor.
  13. Bao-Dur with a double-bladed cyan lightsaber and equipped with that Krath heavy armour looks f***** cool.[/geek moment] But one crystal I've only found once in all of my playthroughs has been the silver crystal. It was on a corpse on Malachor V. I would love to get this crystal early in the game so that I can enjoy it.
  14. Well, it's my impression that Feargus had wanted a more robust community, a place where people would talk about things with merit and substance, and not be filled with spam, flames, whining, griping, indignation and arrogant demands. These boards have been provided as a courtesy, not as a right, and I believe Obsidian feels that courtesy has been abused. From a moderator perspective, it was their/our hope that the forums would not need to have strict moderation, and that people would respect that and act with consideration. Of course we all know there will be trolls and problematic people, but it's pretty clear that Obsidian feels the ratio of trolls and problem people is greater than the good that is here. Were the boards to remain open, or re-open at a later date, we would be excercising much stricter moderation and sterner enforcement of board rules. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, I just don't agree. You and Fio lock your fair share of useless threads that get in the way of "discussion." What more does one need? And the problem with nobody talking about things with merit and substance...well, that's because there is nothing to talk about. KotOR is out there already and Atari stole the NWN forums. Solution? Obsidian needs to announce a third project.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Spot-on target, there. But, Phosphor's comment about implementing much stricter moderation of the boards shouldn't surprise anyone. That's exactly what BioWare did with their boards. If you doubt it, try going over there and posting something along the lines of "JADE EMPIRE IS GONNA SUCK BECAUSE NWN SUCKED, AND KOTOR SUCKED AND...AND....AND....WELL, YOU ALL SUCK. ALSO, SUCK!!!!1111" Your post would not only be deleted but, I would wager you would also be banned. I have to say, though, that the thinking on the part of Feargus and co. that they shouldn't need strict moderation of their boards and that only substantive and constructive disucussion would be happening on here is a little short-sided. I mean, without strict moderation you'll have things like people posting the email addresses of LucasArts executives and starting online petitions and all sorts of crazy stuff. For example, that cut ending thread created by Aurora made national news. In this day and age of the information superhighway, you HAVE TO HAVE strict moderation. There simply is no other way. Ask BioWare. Hell, ask Howard Stern. I remember a year ago or something when Howard opened up his forums and they quickly had to shut it down for a while because people were just out of control over there. They were doing things like posting personal phone numbers and addresses on those boards, from what I understand (I totally never went over there because I never had any interest to). But stuff like that can happen without strict moderation. Now, amplify that by about a hundred times when you're dealing with a videogame company, where the majority of posters (I assume) are kids and teenagers. Kids and teenagers who, btw, are alot smarter than most mods And add to that the fact that vidgame developers use their forums as a means of PR as well. They are very leary of their boards turning into a flame fest because they know that people from Gamespy, Gamespot, Penny Arcade, Slashdot, and any other pub or website associated with the vidgame industry or geekdom in general, is going to be visiting those forums on a daily basis. And if you doubt that, you haven't been paying attention to those above mentioned sites, where, like I said before, the cut ending thread and the online petition thread have made their rounds now all over the net. Hell, theforce.net is on the case now. So, yeah, they definitely need strict moderation here, like they have at BioWare and every other vidgame developer out there.
  15. New article about all of this here. It looks like theforce.net is on the case now. Uh-oh.
  16. I didn't know that they said the boards will be closing down tomorrow. But then again, as with all things in real life, I'm always the last to know. So, if this the last day, then lemme just say, "Peace out! It's been a slice" It was nice reading all of the interesting posts about K2, NWN2, and K1. I hope to see you guys on here in the future if they ever open up again. If not, take care everyone. See you guys for K3. Somewhere.
  17. When the Interplay boards went down, was that a sign that the company was going to fold? I mean, is that the general red flag for developing companies? "If their forum boards go down, look out. The company is soon to follow suit."
  18. I seem to remember creating a thread like this a few weeks ago. And you should see some of the negative responses it got. I also tried to stem the tide again here. And though, many of the responses were positive, there were also alot that weren't. In fact, alot of people were all, "No we can't move on! I paid my 50 bucks and I expected a finished product!!!" Now, I'm not saying that some of that criticism isn't justified. I've been very effusive in my thoughts on the shortcomings of the game. But it just seemed like more and more we were getting threads from kids and other gamers that just peed all over OE and K2 without providing specific examples and without giving the devs or even other gamers thoughtful feedback as to WHY they thought the game fell short. I mean, I know there's always going to be the haters out there with anything and everything under the sky. That's to be expected in any kind of entertainment medium. Trust me. I work for a studio and seldom does a day go by when we're not burned in effigy by someone or another. But really, I thought we as a young community had a GREAT opportunity to actually communicate our thoughts and concerns to the people that were DIRECTLY AND INTIMATELY involved with the project BECAUSE THE COMPANY WAS NEW AND SMALL. There is a real feeling of family and teamwork at OE because there's only about 50 or so people that work for the company. So you better believe they read all the emails and see all the write-ups about their product that appear in various magazines and on various websites across the internet. That's why it's just such a shame that many people here just didn't get it. You don't email the devs or the CEO of the company all the time with things like, "Where are you? I feel abandoned. I paid my money and your dissing me!", or some other crap like that. I mean, write your letters, express your concerns, that's cool. Even encouraged. But to just troll the boards with flame and then send a deluge of emails and PM's to the devs and the execs at OE basically whining....I'm sorry but that's just retarded and childish. But like I said already. it's all academic at this point. We should've been more supportive of Obsidian a long time ago. When we actually had a chance to make a difference.
  19. Hell, I'd close down the forums, too if all I got for the most part was "THIS GAME SUCKS AND SO DOES OBSIDIAN! But in all seriousness, it's too bad that they are going to shut down the forums and it's too bad alot of people don't realize (kids I assume) that the devs are too busy and the company is too new and small to have people hanging around the boards all day with fanbois and such, and these people have chosen to shower Feargus and other devs with emails and PMs wondering where they are. That is just ridiculous. And, yes, this is not up for debate or discussion. The forums WILL BE SHUT DOWN. The only decision that Feargus and co. need to make is for how long and when. Possibly permanently. For what it's worth, I've appreciated all of the hard work by the devs and I've also appreciated the feedback that we've gotton regarding K2 and NWN2. Especially in light of the former's split reaction on these boards. I know it couldn't have been fun to visit the forums to see whats going on and see about 100 "THIS GAME IS TERRIBLE!" threads all over the place. But yet, Chris, Feargus, Brian, and others, have always answered those critics when they've had the chance. And I thought Feargus' email to a poster apologizing for the disappointing experience that person had with the game was heartfelt and sincere. It showed that these guys and gals are professionals and that, contrary to popular belief, they do care about their product and want nothing more than for the public to enjoy their games and have the best gaming experience possilble. I wish you guys and gals all the best on your future endeavors! PS. So I guess all of you folks that just want to flame K2 and OE, go right ahead. It's all academic at this point.
  20. Do you have to have high awerness to see them? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No. They have stealth field generators similar to the ones the Mandalorians have, or the stealth belt that your PC can wear, if they have enough skill. If you notice, if your PC is cloaked, he or she will automatically decloak when you go into combat mode. The same rule applies to the Sith Assassins or the Mandalorians you encounter.
  21. I experienced this on Onderon as well. But I totally thought it was because I had Kreia in my party, and you know, what happened to one of them affected the other. But I've read that other people are experiencing this without Kreia in their party so I don't know what gives. For good measure, the Breath Control power works on Malachor V when you have to run through all of those gas geisers. And, yeah, Force Aura is utterly useless.
  22. Okay, f*** it. I am going to beat a dead horse. Taken from this thread here. For what it's worth. Though, not much I suspect.
  23. And here's more evidence that OE is doing the best they can to respond to their fans and try to correct things. Again, we're free to critisize all we want. Hell, constructive critisicm is probably encouraged. But Chris Avellone has not only responded, he just created a friggin thread to discuss the patch. He also just said that a content patch was requested by OE sometime ago, and LA has never responded. So, not to beat a dead horse, but like I said a while ago, the majority of my ire has been reserved for Luca$art$. Not that that would do anything either, btw.
  24. Seriously, dude. Why wasn't this posted in the Way Off-Topic forum? I mean, it's nice to remember these men for their sacrifices. I'm all for that. But the K2 spoiler forum??
  25. You know, I signed the petition awhile ago. And I totally didn't even think about the fact that us Xboxers totally get the shaft if they ever come out with a content patch. Damn. Unless they re-release K2 as an expansion pack. Like Bethesda did with Morrowind. But we alreay know that's not going to happen. What was I thinkin'? Edit: Actually, they're not going to be coming out with a content patch anyway. They've already said so.
