  1. I used to love paladins when I was a kid, but now I'm more of a ranger guy.The chanter sounds something I might play if I dived blindly into the first playthrough if they are like bards being jacks of all trades with good social skills. At least may dip into if there is multiclassing.
  2. I would go for severely limited, but reasonable damage and a chance of recovery (they end up in the target's inventory.) Maybe if there was a some sort of crafting system on these lines, even recovering the broken ones could be worthwhile.
  3. Crossroads Keep worked because it was part of the story. While I liked it, I'm hesistant to want something like that in PE. I think I'd like BG2 style variable strongholds with just a couple of quests attached. I mostly just want to base of operations. Somewhere to store crafting materials and other stuff I don't want to sell and where the party members can hang out.
  4. tell that **** to DaVinci! Clockpunk FTW! Seriously tho, I think there's enough classes.
  5. Too early to say, but I like it when modding and especially new adventure creation is well supported. This seems to work best when there's a lot of different enviroments and monsters to choose from. Therefore it would be best if the expansion was set on a different area. For example, if the main game is set on a temperate region, the expansion might be set on desert or jungle or both. Exploration is good in my books
  6. My guess at the beginning was about 3.5 million. Now I'm thinking it's going to be between 3 and 3.5.
  7. Most of all, I'd prefer the overland map as seen on SoZ, or Fallouts, or Ultimas III - V. If I had to choose between BG 1 and 2, I'd go for 1.
  8. Isn't that the point, however? There is plenty of other classes to dress up with all sorts of +2 trinkets. It's nice to have a character type that doesn't rely on gear so much. The abilities could be a bit more flexible than average D&D monk level up path, though.
  9. Meh, I don't want them, but they don't bother me either, even when they pop up like on Steam.
  10. Something like the "Unlimited Mana" alternate system for GURPS might be good: http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/blueroom/unlimited-mana.htm Basically you got your power tally, which is increased by casting spells and decreases over time. If your tally goes above a threshold value, you start rolling on the calamity table, taking pluses on the roll depending on how much you have crossed the threshold by. This being soul based magic, the calamities would have to do something about exhausting your soul or causing permanent damage to it on the higher results.
  11. Exactly this. Mounted combat would be cool, but take too much resources and be tricky to get working right on this game format. Maybe some enemies might be riders and mounts counted as single units, but that's pretty clunky. Using them for world map travel might be perfectly possible, however. Ultimas did this. Even if the world map is just clickable hot spots, the horses could be used to make travel faster if the game counted travel time, like MotB.
  12. Yeah, but how about those spells that would be feasible to cast on the fly like that, like non-combat spells or buffs with very long lasting or permanent effects? Healing spells would fall into this category as well as long as there is no immediate danger. This is actually what I suggested earlier on another thread, I think. Usual spells are cast with lenghty rituals, but it's also possible to "store" a few Vancian style.
  13. Actually I wouldn't mind seeing some chainmail bikini as a nod to the trope but only if: There's some plausible reason, like gladiators dressing skimpy for the benefit of the audience. The game doesn't try to pretend they offer protection. A chainmail bikini if not an equivalent of a chain hauberk or metal coconut bra of a breastplate. Of course there might be a set of such armor enchanted ring of protection style, but that's different. As unisex armor often is the case on these games, it should look like an equally skimpy male version when worn by a male character. That being said, it'd be probably a waste of resources for the sake of one gag.
  14. I wouldn't want New Vegas style food system in this game, but old Ultima style where provisions only become a factor when you travel on the overland map might be good. Another element for that mode and could even bring up some extra skill use if you could use the Survival skill to forage for more food on a suitable terrain. So the food would be ignored in the dungeons and towns, but matter when traveling long distances. Sounds reasonable for me. If you want a cRPG that's all about hunger, thirst and fatigue, you should check out UnReal World.
  15. Have played all of them, but haven't finished them all. BG1 and IWD I didn't initially finish, but came back later and then played them trough. Haven't finished PS:T and IWD2. IWD2 just lost my interest, but I'll have to go back for PS:T one of these days. Probably with mods. If you play them as co-op, IWD is probably best for that. Talking about Infinity Engine does get my attention, but mostly I'm just an Obsidian fanboy.
  16. One way to handle this would be would be having a shield skill or feats/perks and make them count more for smaller shields than larger. Unskilled user would then want to use a large shield, but a really skilled user might be better with a buckler. Also, really large shields should hinder their user. Also, might be nice to take user size in consideration. A medium shield might be large for a dwarf.
  17. Seriously, most of the DA:O deathblow animations are not huge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4uJxXQW-eo (A mod that forces them all the time, apparently) I think something like those shorter ones would be fine, especially if they only happened with last enemy of the group. I wouldn't like enemies just chunking into generic gibs like in BG. Too cartoony.
  18. Yeah, shouldn't be able to craft items that are better than the top tier that can be found in the game world. Those are best left for the legendary blacksmiths, not adventurers. Medium level crafting can still be very useful for creating sets of items that complement the wearer's abilities and each other perfectly. I wouldn't say no to reassembling legendary items from pieces either.
  19. I'm reminded of Ultima IV where you got points in some virtues by allwing certain kinds of enemies flee.
  20. I'm not saying it should be done instead of professional translations, but it might be useful to have the game in such format that fan text translations would be easy to implement. I personally have no stake in this. I'm Finnish, but I think most of us would prefer to play the English version even if there was a Finnish one available. I myself might play the translation if it wasn't horrible (though probably on the second playthrough), but just out of misguided nationalism and not because I'd need it.
  21. Yeah, but the shorter DA:O finishing moves I was referring to would probably work on fixed isometric perspective. They don't have to be that detailed.
  22. I love FF, but sometimes the companion AI is just not up to it, like in NWN2 before Tony_K's enchancements. A separete toggle for it would be nice.
  23. Well yeah. BG style gibs probably wouldn't take that much work to get right. I just think something like the shorter DA:O finisher animations would be cooler.
