Thank you for all of your attention! You guys are really kind and helpful. Yeah I invited a friend of mine to try out the Gamepass version of the game (he does not have prior experience to the series so very clean/newly-installed game files I guess), and confirmed that there the bug still exist and it might be an unintended bug associated with the gamepass version. ironically figuring out what was happening with the affliction/resistance thing has made me learnt a lot about the game mechanics lol, despite the bug I still continue enjoying the game.2 points

I have a bit of an itch to try the character creator to see if the characters I see in reviews are outliers or if that's really the best they can manage with the tools. But it's not an itch worth burning 80GB+ of download quota on just yet. The EA Play trial will be there forever anyway so no rush. DA1 was earnest in that Bioware put in a lot of time and effort to make the best game they could while the company was still independent. For me it didn't hit, but I respect it. Conceptually another "save the world" story was not what I was after, and in terms of narrative the game made me actively not want to save the world with the way the origin stories are written. DA2 was the opposite, in that it was extremely cynical where DA1 was earnest. Conceptually I thought it was a great idea, a smaller-scale, more personal game with lower stakes than usual. The implementation though was just cobbling stuff together in order to meet EA's extreme deadlines and it's just a procession of reused content and waves of enemies spawning out of thin air. DA3 was a single-player MMO.2 points

Hey, maybe Bioware's execs let EA's execs write Veilguard out of gratitude, judging by general opinion on its story Anyway. All this talk of DA made me reinstall Origins, which I don't think I need to spend more time with, since it's one of very few games I collected 100% cheevos for, but here I am. I love how things make sense in it. It's also less brown than I remember it.1 point

It is tricky. You basically need to pick every choice of your chosen alignment or you get locked out, as later choices are progressively locked behind higher requirements. So if you aren't votary by a certain point, choices in chapter 4 are most likely locked. It sucks. You are supposed to do three playthroughs, one for each morality and always pick every option. Most annoying for Heretics who miss out on Foulstone that way. Very bad design. For Heinrix it really depends on your party setup. My Heinrix was a high mobility assassin who could easily reach faraway lights, while the spacewoof could plod off in the other direction. The fight was extremely unmemorable. Chapter 4 is known for the cut content. The frozen planet in Chorda's domain has it's whole questline cut and through console commands you can apparently teleport to the areas that are just sitting in the code but are disconnected from the live game.1 point

They only proc on Acolyte's Frostbite attacks, nothing else, but Frostfall can be a good thing : Dispersed Suffering work on any kill, and this attack (vs will) is a Frostfall attack however, Encroaching Frost enchantment (chance to freeze on crit) work on any Frostfall attack, including Dispersed Suffering. Also, you can find a mod to unlock the Tekehu's druid subclass with the foe-only frost spells. Of course you are enable to choose the spiritshift as you want in this case..1 point

"Fun" video with the Gamers Nexus guy if you hadn't seen it: Windows (and most other always online products, services, and features) is adversarial, by design, and it is always getting worse. On the latest patched version of the official Windows 11 multi-installer from Microsoft.com (including Home and Pro editions, along with some others, IDK, I wasn't paying that much attention to the list of options you get, I just chose Pro), found and freely downloadable here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 It is admittedly not straightforward to discern what you need to click on in order to not have to do the SHIFT+F10 OOBE stuff, but it is still possible: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/scl/fi/psttyrild3n998fzlhnx0/vmware_wFvbyAGVMu.mp4?rlkey=zi9bw7xlkiohwzzzjl4o8ookg&dl=01 point

This bug is an advantage for the player. You know that resistances work like immunities now and you can plan accordingly (like not casting Whispers of Treason on a sporeling anymore) - but the enemies will never know. They will try to attack you with afflictions you are virtually immune to and waste precious time and resources. Time to pick up resistance items and -abilities!1 point

Maybe Sun & Moon flail for the +2 Frost Power Levels - but it doesn't work during the day (and not while shifted of course). Bear's bonus AR in combination with Thick Skinned and Woodskin/Form of the Delemgan is pretty decent AR without any recovery penalty. In combinaton with Frenzy and Bloodlust that's very good attack speed. Helm of the Aurochs will grant you an additonal freezing lash for your next weapon attack if you got hit. Funnily enough it also procs off of benefical "hits" like healing pulses (see Moonwell etc). Nice addition imo. Footsteps of the Beast boots are also thematicially fitting, as is the whole Beast of Winter DLC.1 point

I think the biggest problem with Dragon Age is a lack of consistency in design goals. There's a disconnect between DA1 and future games in the series that seemed to jettison more of the "rpg elements" in favor of more action focused gameplay and cinematic experiences, in addition to jumping between smaller personal story to single player mmo with a multiplayer minigame slapped on. By itself that isn't a problem but I think that Bioware just isn't good enough at either gameplay or cinematics to really make a good action-rpg, looking back now I remember next to nothing about actually playing DA2 or DA3 beyond silly stuff like the "ANOTHER WAVE" yells or spamming the magic sword power to reflect projectiles. While this new one does look like it's doubled down on action it just doesn't look good, like an inferior Dragon's Dogma with less enemy variety or real options.1 point

Imho Dragon Age allowed for a great first play through of Origins. Very enjoyable and fun and some good moments. But BioWare did not have a good further Dragon Age game in them. The setting may have had more potential , but BioWare was not the company to explore it. 2 was simply bad. The experimentation in chapters years apart not working well, causing the player to stand still while the game moved on. The spawning of enemies was silly. The evil high Templar was comical in how bad she was written. Inquisition was a single player MMO with all the bad of an MMO without the potential benefit of sharing fun with strangers. And as in so many BioWare Games, in both 2 and Inquisition there was the disconnect with what your character should say, what you thought your character would say, and the soppy cringe they did say. They should have left it at origins and made that StarWars MMO a series of single player titles, one for each class in each faction. They would have made a dozen great games instead of a couple bad single player ones and a mediocre mmo.1 point

I'm in the camp of people who quite liked DA:O. The combat and spell combos where you had to explore was just fun (a very subjective thing, I know). Didn't care for the romances and if I had to mention my single biggest grievance it was the npc with the big yellow exclamation mark over his head screaming PURCHASE THIS DLC!!!! in your camp That aside, I quite enjoyed it enough for several repeat playthroughs. I later got an edition with the various dlc's etc. so at least this most obnoxious guy disappeared.1 point

https://rockstarintel.com/red-dead-redemption-releases-on-pc/ RDR1 is finally released on PC this week, Im so happy I have waited over a decade to play this game The game runs at up to 4K resolution and 144FPS. If you have supported hardware to run the game at such quality and performance that is. This is a huge step up over the original game and even the PS4 port running on PS5. Previously, Red Dead Redemption was stuck at 30FPS on all platforms until a 60FPS patch for the PS4 version (when running on PS5) came out last year. Graphics settings such as draw distance, shadow quality and more can be changed. Red Dead Redemption on PC will also support aspect ratios such as Ultrawide (21:9) and Super Ultrawide (32:9). There will also be HDR10 support if you have a compatible display. Fans can opt to use a keyboard and mouse over controller if they wish to do so.1 point

Simon the Westie, April 1st, 2010 - November 3rd, 2024 Good night, sweet prince. You brought joy to everyone who knew you. On the one hand I am heartbroken, on the other I am happy that he did not have to suffer. Just around midnight he got up for the last time, wagged his tail, and went back to sleep. This morning we noticed that he didn't breathe any more. Being able to die peacefully in his sleep is a blessing we never expected him to have after he was diagnosed with lymphoma six months ago. The vet gave him three to six weeks without treatment, and he went on to enjoy his life for six more months. He put up a valiant fight, and now he gets to rest and hopefully join my mother in law who used to watch over him while we were working when he was a puppy and during his adolescence. Every now and then I catch myself wondering if we shouldn't have taken the vet up on the offer of chemotherapy, but then, he was 14 already, he hated going to the vet to the point where he tried to run away (which he never ever did otherwise) and it would have been a three month treatment, with no chance of actually curing him. Ideally it would have put his cancer into remission for a while. We'd trade three months of him being miserable with three months extra time with him? No, and looking back, I can't imagine to have made a different choice. You will be missed my sweet doggie. I know that every pet owner says this, but he was special and the cutest and the best.0 points
