Just to say, I came to this forum originally in 2020 during my first run of the game. Both Boeroer and Thelee were really active, and were so helpful in helping me understand the game, deadire being my first foray into a crpg proper. I come back now, almost 5 years later, having spammed nothing but crpgs in that time lol to give deadfire another whirl and I see Boeroer and Thelee STILL on these forums, still helping newbies and veterans alike with all of their deadfire questions. Huge props to them both (and other big community helpers) for their dedication honestly, and any shootouts by people like Josh is well deserved. Honestly Obsidian should just hire them both as ambassadors at this stage!4 points

In my defense, re-watching Cardcaptor Sakura was not exactly my decision and nor was I the one deciding when episodes were going to be watched. I could've said something about it to encourage you to re-start it, but there was the distinct possibility that my re-watch could've effectively just...died five, ten episodes in for reasons outside of my control, and that wouldn't have been awesome. Happily, that did not happen, but that makes it a bit of a lost opportunity for you. It's been recent enough that I would think I'm still more than prepared to talk about any episodes you watch and might want to talk about (and indeed, I did actually have a number of thoughts about things). I go through phases of wanting to experience new things (be it in real life or movies, books, games...) but then I also go through phases of being like "wait, almost all of the new things aren't as good as the things I already love, let's try some of those instead". For that reason, I wouldn't be opposed to an Escaflowne re-watch, I think it'd hold up just fine. I enjoyed the OVA more on the second watch than I did on the first, but I think the things which most attracted me to the show as a whole aren't going to be very affected by the course of the main story. But I understand the perspective. Speaking of Steven Universe, I've been re-watching the whole series with my nieces and we've been having a great time...in the middle of season 4 now, and though the main story is great and all, the show as a whole is starting to get a bit off-kilter just as I thought it would. Seasons 1 and 2 are by far the most cohesive and consistent from episode to episode. I confess to have yoinked 2-3 episodes out of each season, though - no Onion Trade or Rocknaldo or Onion Gang or Rising Tides, Crashing Skies for us. Too bad, so sad, GOODBYE ONION AND RONALDO! Kazuo Umezu(?): I apparently tried something called "Orochi", but I remember literally nothing about it, so I'm guessing I didn't get very far. From Junji, I also tried "Tombs", "Venus in the Blind Spot", "Deserter", and "Soichi", and I bounced off all of them pretty quickly as well, so I'm fairly confident that his writing just isn't for me, no matter the cool concepts and art. I'm the worst, I know: it's inexplicable the things that do just randomly click for me versus the ones that don't...even I am surprised sometimes.1 point

Honestly I'd be more likely to do DIO. It was on while I was sleeping, so it probably has done at least some level of psychic damage. Nothing I've seen of it makes it look particularly worth watching, it's not visually appealing and I've taken your word that the "canon" Sailor Moon is pretty bad to the point of making BLACK LADY or Pedosus look wholesome. Maybe one day I'll get paralyzed and have to endure it until it gets turned off. Anyways....I don't care if any of yall rewatch JoJo or whatever without telling me so much as you enjoy it. I can eat that up so I'd probably catch up quickly.....welll probably can't beat @InsaneCommander but he hasn't been around in a minute. Hope he's alright. Also, finished Hell's Paradise s1. It's getting into the more obnoxious Shonen stuff like TRAINING for POWER LEVEL but the monster design and aesthetics are still really good so I'll probably keep going if s2 is ever made.1 point

i want more keyword-interacting stuff. especially for priest and druid - afaict "cleansing" and non-damage "decay" (which is most of 'em) have no mechanical support either from class or from items, and most of the other ones that have support (especially for priest) are extremely niche and focused on defense (+bonus against like condemntation-keyword spells, like sorry i'm not worried about an enemy priest hitting my character with barbs of condemnation).* preferably something more interesting than just +1 PL or something. like 20% chance to echo a condemnation spell. 10% chance to summon a skeleton when casting a decay spell. if those are possible with modding. * history lesson, this is a side effect of priest subclasses originally being like wizard subclasses and the various deities supported certain keywords and banned other keywords. after the switch to the current system of deities providing bonus spells, the keywords basically fell into disuse.1 point

I'd like to have a 1/encounter pulling effect. A reverse "Clean Sweep" if you will (a Dirty Sweep hehe). Or like "Into the Fray" but in an AoE. All enemies in a circular AoE (which are not missed) get pulled towards the user (and maybe gain +3 engagement for x seconds if I'm feeling greedy). I wished my main tank had such an ability. 1/encounter would be enough.1 point

Concerning the Herald (Pallegina?) and not using Paladin abilities/zeal much before: Consider taking Brand Enemy. It is a very fast cast with 0 recovery. You can spend a bunch of Zeal right at the start of battle and just give every enemy (the ones where it makes sense) a neverending burning DoT effect. It can be scripted easily, too - so AI can take care of that for you if you want. Since it's an auto-hit even a short-sighted Herald with a helmet made of concrete would have no trouble landing it. You could also try to use Inspired Beacon. It's not an auto-hit - but the +40% damage taken by enemies who get hit by it are cool when you have AoE damage dealing in the party. This is not as easy to script in an effective way, but still doable. Since you need engagement it should be a Shieldbearer imo. With 2 tank(ish) chars both can be individually less "tanky", so you have more options. For example I had a great (low micro) time with a Streetfighter/Unbroken (could be Edér) which I themed towards a Gladiator: Gladiator's Sword (it's great for a tank in general but also gets +1 PEN which is great for offense) & Bronlar's Phalanx. Devil of Caroc Breastplate with Abraham (Edér+ a Berath's Blessing can have a pet) and Armored Grace is very fast with good AR (later I used the Contender's Armor and Helm bc. Gladiator theme). Death's Maw grants some damage resistance. Human for its passive at 50% health, Undying Burden adds to Bronlar's Phalanx nicely. Use Escape to move while under Large Shield modal etc. Since it's a tank it will get flanked constantly (not much to do on your part) and then actually do great weapon dps without much micro. Once you get some engagement abilities/gear you can also use Mob Stance to increase attack speed even further and add more damage. I use regular Edér as a Swashbuckler single tank for my parties all the time and it works fine defensively. With a Streetfighter you tank noting away from that but add a lot more low-micro damage output.1 point

Baldur's Gate III's equipment has a lot of good examples. I like in particular the items that specifically interact with class features, e.g., Blazer of Benevolence granting temporary HP to the bard when they use Bardic Inspiration, and the items that grant a status effect that several other items can synergise with, e.g., all the various items that grant Lightning Charges or a bonus/effect based on Lightning Charges. The main thing I think is missing from Deadfire is cool features for support casters - offensive characters get to choose from all kinds of bonuses that activate upon hitting things, but support characters don't really get anything like that. Something like receiving/granting a bonus upon applying an Inspiration or healing, or adding effects to specific support abilities like a paladin's Lay on Hands. For example, a mod I made a while ago added an aura to the Priest of Eothas subclass that granted increased healing and resistance to Resolve Afflictions to nearby allies when they had a Protection keyword effect on or an Inspiration, respectively. Some love for underused keywords would also be nice, e.g., Protection, Echo, Decay.1 point

You can remove via immunity but you have to make a keyword for it. I do it this way often because it's very controllable. Another easier but more limited way is to remove the status via the Trigger section of the status, where it says RemoveEffectAtMax. You make the trigger count increase from an event (such as OnScoringHitOrCriticalHit) then when it hits the max trigger count the status is removed, but you also have to have IgnoreMaxTriggerCount as false.1 point

@Boeroer thank you for reviewing and providing feedback. By the way, I loved the build ideas that you featured in the video with @Aestus. I didn't play the game upon release and am very grateful that the community is still semi-active. 1. I had planned the Herald to be a tank but hadn't though much about the build itself. Can you please help me to understand why WotEP (with Offensive Parry) wouldn't be a great choice mechanically speaking? Is it that a Herald specifically doesn't benefit much from the available action economy that WotEP provides? What weapon would be a great choice for a main-tank Herald? 4. (You're right that the Battlemage is intended to fill the offensive tank role.) Can you say more about the Assassin/Blood Mage? Specifically, what about the Assassin makes it great in the CC/debuffing role? 5. Assuming that I've got main tank (Herald), off tank (Battlemage), support (Priest), and CC/debuffing (TBD), do you have any specific recommendations for this 5th slot? I think answering that may help me decide on #4. Thanks again!1 point

Arkemyr's Mercurial Madness is one of the spell with the worst possible description. What it does : Attack vs Will that Apply status for 30s : every 6s, one of the following statuses is applied without further roll (each one has 1 chance out of 6) : - 6s Frenzied (Fit, Strong, +25% action speed, -10 deflection) with health bar hidden. The tooltip states 6s for these, but the Frenzy itself lasts for 6s and the other effects and child effect that will go away with it. - 6s Color Changed (nothing else) - 6s Confused - 6s Terrified - 6s Dominated - 6s Petrified What I do find interesting is that all of these statuses apply for 6s modifiable by INT while the 6s tick is obviously not changed. So with good INT, you could have effectively 2 of them applying at the same time. That said, it feels overall worse than Wall of Many Colors, except that the target can't flee.1 point

4 more bosses DS2 NG+ down since my last post. First was Lost Sinner. And again to my surprise, the fight was much easier with melee than with sorcerer in my previous playthrough. I needed few attempts to adjust to the two red phantoms joining the fight, but it took not to long. The worst part was the gauntlet again... FromSoft really drop the ball here, and put everything to make your corpserunning as complicated as possible. Cost me almost 100k souls Next one was Scorpioness Najka. Again, fine with melee build. Only 1 attempt needed. And again, the issue was to get to her, through the "ghosts", although not as big as to Lost Sinner. Thankfully the mask from the DLC helped a lot to counter Curse. I had to play a little bit backup and reload, due to the Golden Lion, which drops two unique items not respawning. After 15 minutes or so, I got his helmet. Will still need to do the same in NG+2 for his red cloak Third one was Prowling Magus with the Congregation. As always, whenever I underestimate something due to not wiping for a long time, the cheapest mob finishes me off That's why it took me two tries to get this one. Nothing special. Just need to watch out for his AoE attack, which finished me off at first attempt And the last one was The Duke's Dear Freja. So far the longest fight in NG+. It challenged my patience a lot as a melee, now that I am attempting all bosses without summons. Thankfully few Great Lightning Bolts helped a little bit with the fight. But i had to save all the smaller ones for the spider spawns. After that, I got completely engulfed with the Mortal Kombat 11 and Towers of Time. I have found out, that I can get two super rare Classic MKII skins for Skarlet and Johnny Cage as the battle announcer, if I gather enough points to rank in top 5% PvE Tower players. I am now in top 3.5% after 36 towers cleared, but there is still one day until the end of the challenge. So, I have to be prepared to run few towers tomorrow after work again.1 point

It was a busy Monday night for me today, doing the citizenship ceremony at Brisbane City Hall. Lots of pomp, music, military brass, political elite and various other representatives. Music by the Royal Australian Navy, an Aboriginal Group and a sizeable girls choir... and I really just wanted to go home, chafing in my shirt! I really hate wearing shirts! I stuck with the program, the speeches, the ceremony, the pledges, the singing of a new national anthem (for me) and ended up getting my new citizenship certificate as a reward for two years of paperwork Now I can add Australian Citizen too on my CV The girl choir also gave a decent rendition of this old hit!1 point

This build was created for a collaboration with @Aestus who runs the Youtube channel Aestus_RPG. Here's the video where we talk about this and other builds. This is build 2 of 5 from that collaboration. ----------------------------------------- This build is mainly meant for inspiration. You don't need to follow it in detail to have fun. If you understand the key features - the basic idea what makes this build special - you can usually deviate from my non-core attribute-, skill-, gear- and ability selection and form the build to your own likings and ideas. I do not try to produce the most powerful uberbuilds (often those are the most boring to play in he long run) but to focus on having fun while playing. Usually that means the build is powerful - but it's not the main focus. If you like to read about my personal requirements for "fun to play" builds, you can jump to a list below this post ----------------------------------------- orn a slave, Miccaela Shorsh grew up in the shadowed quarters of Ancenze in the Vaillian Republics, where art, politics, and wealth flourish - at least for the free. Her mother Borschtscha was cleaning the dog kennels for one of the wealthy families, and Miccaela seemed destined for the same life of subjugation and shἱt shoveling. However, even as a child and despite her little frame, her voice was unlike any other, an voluminous sound that could either stir hearts and calm tempers or incide discord and altercations. Unbeknownst to her, her gift was more than mere sound: Miccaela possessed a rare psionic talent, woven into her voice. Her abilities first manifested during a punishment because she refused to wash the stinky fur of the owners' favorite hound Beangobbler the Volatile. Terrified and in pain, Miccaela sang a phrase so powerful that it brought the overseer to his knees, clutching his pearls. Word of this strange power spread quickly through the household, and Miccaela was soon seen as dangerous, but also a potential tool. Her owners realized her voice could be used for their advantage in politics and business, so they forced the little Wild Orlan to perform at grand galas, her melodies subtly manipulating the minds of listeners. But the Wild Orlan's rebellious nature kicked in: at a big dinner event she planted a simple longing into all of the female guests: to stab their partners or patrons with a greasy shashlik skewer as soon as they started to talk obnoxiuos stuff. As a tumult erupted and people who looked like shashlik porcupine fell over each other, Miccaela managed to flee the scene - and the Vaillian Republics althoghether on a trading vessel which was headed for the Deadfire Archipelago. As Miccaela grew older (which happens pretty quickly with Orlans, min you), she learned to conceal her abilities behind the guise of mere performance. Although cleaning the kennels, Beangobbler the Volatile and the whole slavery shebang was behind her, she longed to fight for freedom for all sentient beings: every note she sang became a coded message of rebellion, a call to anyone who would be susceptible to the power of her voice. Now, Miccaela is no longer just a performer, but a covert agent of resistance, using her voice to bend minds, influence rulers and subtly shift the balance of power. In secret and with a philosophy similar to that of a Bleak Walker, she will use all means to free the oppressed and gather those who would help her tear down the chains of slavery, always with a song on her lips and her psionic power in her little yellow furry head. "I won't let you down I will not give you up Gotta have some faith in the sound It's the one good thing that I've got I won't let you down So please don't give me up Because I really, really don't want to wash that hound..." - Miccaela while freezing some killers stiff - =================================== The Ceaseless Siren =================================== Difficulty: PotD -------------------------------------------------------------- Solo: untested -------------------------------------------------------------- Class: Spiritualist - Psion/Troubadour -------------------------------------------------------------- Race: Wild Orlan (or any) -------------------------------------------------------------- Background: Old Vaillia (or any) - Slave (or any) -------------------------------------------------------------- Stats (w/o Berath's Blessings, ★=recommmendation) MIG: 10 (11, -1 Orlan) CON: 10 (do not dump) DEX: 12 PER: 15 (13, +2 Orlan) ★ INT: 19 (18, +1 Old Vailia) ★★ RES: 12 (11, +1 Orlan, do not dump) ★ -------------------------------------------------------------- the unique icons for all passive abilities are part of the Community Patch mod Abilities | Skills | Proficiencies - (!=important, r=recommended, a=automatic) 00. That also means your resources fill up while you cast, run around etc. Using the Psion (focus gain per second, scales with Power Level) and the Troubadour (phrases elapse twice a fast with Brisk Recitation -> double the phrase point generation) gives you a caster who never runs out of spell resources and has almost no downtime: excellent action economy no need to actively use your weapon (which you are not good with anyways) immense versatility with all sorts of great spells: healing, reviving, disables, damage, buffing, mind control, summons - you can do it all. Pick what your party needs and you’ll be good at it. You can then also alter the gear to your needs. For example: if you wanted to play a Ceaseless Siren as a damage dealer who is spamming shock spells (Her Revenge + Soul Shock) nonstop you could pick up Deltro's Cage instead of the armor I listed above. If you want to take a support role (casting Pain Block and singing Ancient Memory or Mercy and Kindness etc.) you could use the Physikers Belt and a pet that does +15% healing and so on. The most potent combination might be to focus on mind control on the Psion side (Whisper of Treason, Puppet Master, Ringleader) and on summons on the Troubadour side (Animated Weapon + Many Lives Pass By), but constant CC spells are also very impactful: spamming Killers Froze Stiff + Mental Binding lets you completely disable and control whole groups of enemies pretty early in the game. independent from special unique items, this build can free up gear for other party members who might need it more. Sasha's Singing Scimitar is great, but even without it this caster is very effective. So if you want to include another chanter in the party who might make even better use of the weapon (for example a Bellower) it's not a problem. attributes can be allocated freely fitting your role. For example a damage dealer wants more MIG, a summoner or supporter/healer wouldn't need a lot of PER. one of the very few class combinations that beat the Ultimate challenge without the "endless duration of buffs" exploit - which shows how powerful it can be. I chose a mix of CC, damage, healing and summons so that there's always an answer to most situations. While playing you will quickly find out which spells you like to use the most - just can alter your choices of abilities and gear accordingly. Issues: when you get damaged (or critically hit when using the Community Patch mod which I recommend) your focus generation will stop for a short time. Unconditional focus generation is the Psion’s forte. While phrase generation stops briefly after an invocation the Psion’s focus never stops growing until damaged (or critically hit with the CP mod). Without this costant focus generation the Psion is bad. So you want to avoid getting attacked! You automatic ability Telikinetic Burst can help of course. But there's other ways to reduce the risks: stay stealthed at the beginning of combat. You want to load up on focus anyway - and when enemies have settled on your party members (like your tank) you are lot less likely to get attacked. having good deflection and/or immunity against disengagment attacks lets you get away without damage. you shouldn't build a glasscannon but have to invest into defenses. You can also use summons and mind control/disables to avoid damage to great effect - but more importantly (because it works without much effort and micromanagement) raise your deflection and armor and don’t dump your CON (health). There are lots of enemies out there that specifically look for weak party members in terms of low deflection, low armor and low health (like rangers, rogues and barbs do). Using a shield and putting on decent armor deters most of those enemies from picking you as their favorite target in the first place, giving you an easier time. sacrifice some offensive prowess for defense. It will help to let this character play a lot more smoothly than maxing your offensive potential. Unusual for a caster but it works. The best offensive stats mean nothing if you cannot cast because you lack focus. Another great way to prevent getting attacked (without having to actively do anything) in the later game is to sing Many Lives Pass By at all times - a weak skeleton that pops up every 3 seconds and forms a group of skeletons with its buddies quickly draws attention away from you and shields you from almost all attackers. Why is it fun: because of the endless and fast resource generation there’s always something to do, very little downtime. Opposite of low level Wizards, Priests or Druids who have very few spells in he early game. the spell selection is great always good impact, powerful right away bc. of summons, great CC and so on extremely versatile. There are Very little situations where you cannot contribute. The swiss army knife of casters because of the rel. good sturdyness (to avoid focus stop) little frustration from getting knocked out etc. which is great for inexperienced players. does not depend on items - this can help to attain a special look or theme/background a lot more easily without the feeling you have to sacrifice performance. Hope you enjoy! Cheers!1 point

This... I don't look at the numbers or scores, but I do look for patterns if there are issues that seems to be repeated. Like sound never working or game always causing BSOD or whateverf. A few dozen unhappy gamers ranting because they don't like a game wont deter me from at least check out a game more in-depth, but if it's consistent that particular "features" gets slammed uniformly, they there is probably something about it1 point

Yeah, I tend to get a lot more out of steam reviews than any 'professional' reviewers, or those terrible people that make videos. I have a pretty small list of friends on Steam (maybe a dozen people) but if they review a game, it pushes them to the top. They tend to share my interests, so that's nice. Plus it is easy to scroll through a few and get a feel for if the review matches what I'm looking for. They are typically short and simple. The only games that tend to get skewed Steam results are usually the big AAA titles. All of the smaller indie stuff, which is what I tend to browse Steam for anyways, is pretty accurate when it comes to the positive to negative scale.1 point

I think it's a good indication of how content people are with the game. Sometimes it's for stupid reasons, but sometimes it's for good reasons, and you have to read the reviews to get a general idea why. For new games with no big franchise to bring a load of expectations, a review trends tend to be more informative of actual quality, I've found.1 point

Street Fighter (1994) It's a bad movie. Kind of in the middle of just being bad to being a "good" bad movie, solely on the back of Raul Julia's performance. Take that out and it's ****ing awful, irredeemable garbage. I also recently watched a horror movie but I already forgot it.1 point

I wish a druid spell to morph in a treant, ent or whatsoever you wanna call it, 9 level, high duration, many (at least 6) attacks with branches, low speed, defenses high to the skies, immunities to crush damage, a very large moving tree who smashes up anything in its way.
