Somewhere out there is a video from the closed beta of PoE in which pikes and quarterstaffs had engagement for their whole reach - and somebody put his character with a pike behind a choke point and the enemies with normal melee weapons tried to get to him and where instantly murdered by countless disengagement attacks.2 points

Every English lyric site only says floating/drifting/weightless, no mention of cold/pulled thru space etc. Hm. So, an inaccurate English translation = the destruction of even the remote survival dreams for poor ol' Major Tom? Maybe he just forgot to put on a sweater! Ah well...that was my original belief anyway. So unless he became a Star Child - RIP!2 points

I had a bit of free time the last couple of days so I decided to install one of the games I've purchased on sale and never got around to playing. I picked Company of Heroes. I think gameplay-wise it's held up pretty well, I've only spent a couple of hours with it but I'm having fun. The only downside right now is that it's been about 20 years since I've had to use the arrow keys to scroll around the screen and it's taking a while to get comfortable with that again. Relic are amazing though, I'd forgotten how much fun I used to have with the Dawn of War series. Dawn of War IV is long overdue, hopefully if Space Marine 2 does well they'll give Relic and the franchise the boost it needs to do another.2 points

Good day, My friend and I opened the Haze Lab Door, went into the final fight area there and killed a bunch of Mites. After the mites were dead nothing else happened. No more enemies that were supposed to come showed up. We also found the door behind us was locked. We figured it was a bug and chose the Give Up option to respawn our characters. When we returned to the door it was locked. The switch is still flipped to on. There is no way we can get back in there. This has locked our progression as we cannot collect the Haze Chip. We have dozens of hours into this save and I really don't want to lose all of that progress. Looking at the issue tracker this has been a previous bug https://grounded.obsidian.net/issue-tracker#4vrkYlr7-players-are-reporting-a-haze-lab-door-isnt-opening-preventing-progression Looking for any semblance of help here. We have tried everything that we can find online about this. Not only does this prevent the story from progressing, but we can't unlock the advanced buildings as that is locked behind the Haze Chip. Thanks in advance!1 point

I strongly suspect flanked is not based on engagements but on being threatened by 2 enemies forming some 120° angle or worse. I tested being between 2 opposite enemies who have no engagement slots and indeed I became flanked. I also tested using Grog (giving me immunity to engagement) and again I became flanked. Something intriguing I found out is, if you are flanked due to being between 2 opposite enemies, and for example the 1st one has no engagement but the 2nd one does, and you stagger the 2nd one (making him unable to engage and thus also to threaten I suspect), you stop being Flanked. I should probably also test it with the 1st one. However, if you are in the same situation but this time are immune to engagement, e.g. Grog, and you stagger that 2nd enemy, you remain flanked . I can't explain why. I'd like to test having a few enemies between 2 allies (with Grog as pet) and making my allies threaten all of them to see if they can simultaneously flank all of them. Then check if they remain flanked even after switching to some other enemy. If so, it would align with my previous observations about the threaten mechanic. Also, flanked being based on threatened could explain how inconsistent flanked is. Any ideas to decipher it further would be welcomed! Edit: another test could be dazing myself and checking if I stop being able to threaten enemies (by checking Mob Stance recovery). I suspect so.1 point

This is pretty topical to me personally because I literally told someone recently that I'd vote for a Shrek .jpeg over Trump.1 point

OMG this will teach me to do math when i am tired Two Attack DPS = (2* Base Damage + (Base Damage * (1+dmg bonus) - 10) /4 +10 ) * 1+dmg bonus / twice Attack Speed So for a greatsword this is (2* 21 + (21 * (1+dmg bonus) - 10) /4 +10 ) * 1+dmg bonus / 2*4.7 -> 4.468 + .558 * (1+dmg bonus) -.265 + 1.063 * (1+dmg bonus)= (5.266 + .588 * (1* dmg bonus)) * (1+dmg bonus) And for Rapier this is : (2* 12 + (12 * (1+dmg bonus) - 10) /4 +10 ) *( 1+dmg bonus) / 2*3.5 -> 3.428 + .428 * (1+dmg bonus) - .3571 +1.42 *(1+dmg bonus) = (4.4909 + .428* (1*dmg bonus)) *(1+dmg bonus) Accuracy and penetration independent this is between a 19% damage increase at zero damage bonus to a 22.6% damage increase at a 200% damage bonus. This represents between a 30% (at zero damage bonus) and 63% dps increase(at 200% damage bonus) over auto attacking for two handed and a 43% to 74% increase for a one handed weapon. This might actually make one handed superior in net, penetration and modals depending edit: Slow two handed is 26 to 28% behind the two handers with a 35 to 67% increase. Given the value of accuracy this makes a pretty strong case for rapiers/clubs/daggers/flails edit: Sun and Moon Gets a bit of a bonus because it hits twice but they're reduced damage hits so the main advantage is in sliding some of the damage from the dmg-10/4 to the 10 portion. Which, to be fair, does help one handers a good deal. But It may not be enough to overcome other advantages. Edit: Xoti's Sickle may be an interesting option. You're gonna get a lot of kills. Both Finality and Urgent Harvest are very good. Finality because you don't want to be attacking near death enemies since you don't generate as much focus. Urgent Harvest because its a big action speed bonus (up to 10 dex equivalent with 20 religion). And the bonus sickle damage should be nice too (This should apply to SA but i don't think i can easily check). Its a pretty big bonus at 5%+.5%/religion. So max bonus at 20 religion =60%. Just a mythic xoti's sickle with soul whip would provide a 1.55 dmg bonus edit: On testing the sickle damage does apply to SA. So focus generation/damage isn't as good here as an AoE weapon. But it nets a pretty nice damage bonus (58% for a class that doesn't start with religion) edit: And I want to add that even if my ramblings didn't go in the direction of your support. I definitely did pay attention and learn from your posts and appreciate it Boeroer/Yorname1 point

Finished Mail Time. The game was nice, but short and the story was linear. Review: Finished Cookie Cutter. Somewhat ambivalent about the game, will write a review later.1 point

Can't argue with that, still a pretty bad moment when you have to recall CPUs already shipped to system integrators - systems probably all set and ready to be sold in the face of the worst possible moment for Intel since the Pentium 3 1133 debacle need to be worked on and validated again, and we're talking about a market segment where AMD is still trailing behind (x86 market shares being what they are when removing console SoCs). Somehow I don't think we're talking about quality issues that are "doesn't reach boost spec by 50 Mhz" like AMD had in the past, but hey, could be wrong. edit: as funny as that comment is, I think we don't need to consider the veracity of that. Ain't no way AMD would delay a product launch just to appear better than Intel when everything points to the new CPUs being better than Intel's current offerings anyway, and it would be really weird if they were not, it's a brand new generation after processors that were already competitive and in some areas much better (and more efficient) than Intel's most recent offerings.1 point

I don't know about "threatening", but engagement doesn't work with reach. It is limited to the normal 0.8m melee distance.1 point

Tbh, I feel like the role of the publisher is slowly dwindling nowadays, unless you are into AAA stuff. Indie games don't need *that* much money, and physical distribution is pretty much gone now, so... what does the publisher offer to you that you can't do yourself? Great, there is QA, but often it sucks... and then there is marketing, but it often sucks as well and you can just post on facebook and twatter yourself...1 point

Dang, I have such fond memories of CoH1. I am still meaning to getting around to playing the sequels. At least CoH2 was supposed to be good. Ha! I remember people not being happy how it negatively represented Russia. I wonder how it would be received in the current climate. I don’t think Relic is working on Space Marine2. From what I can find the sequel is made by Saber Interactive. I don’t know if there is any overlap in devs.1 point

DS2 again after day of break. Had only 1 and half hour of free time today, so I have decided to go for Old Dragonslayer and not Ruin Sentinels. The summon near Dragonlancer helped me to defeat the Dragon guarding him, despite me being to slow and being hit by his fire few times. Got stomped by him few times as well, but in the end, I have been victorious and now I have one very nice shield, which raises Item discovery as well The summon survived, so I went right away after Old Dragonslayer, and defeated him on first try. From his soul reward, I bought the Silver Cat’s Ring and dropped naked into the pit of Majula and started my move toward Royal Rat Vanguard. I had not very nice memories of this fight, when learning it for the first time on PS3, and they came back in first attempt as soon as I got poisoned by him, and eaten some dust. Despite that, I found the first attempt pretty promising, and I found out, that I can soak a lot of damage with heavier armour, compared to the cloth I wore as sorcerer, which did not saved me much. All I had to do, was running a little around the arena, occasionally chug some Estus or Lifegem, and the victory has been mine on second attempt. As always Firebombs helped a lot during the fight. Deathcounter is currently at 19, and my plan for next session is clearing of Bastille1 point

Playing Skyrim reminded me of one pure 100% Bethesdian trademarks - Needlessly Belligerent NPC. You know, the one that upon meeting you for the first time greets you with "Hey f†ckface, the f-- you doing here?! Tell me RIGHT NOW you useless piece of shoit or I smash your ugly face in!" Fallout 3 has them, Skyrim has them, Fallout 4 has them too. Usually your reply to them consists of 1. (meek explanation of what I am doing here), 2. "Try me, b†tch" and you can guess which one I always take. Unfortunately, Bethesda loves to troll players with making the most insufferable ones essential and thus unkillable, though sometimes just temporarily and then you see videos of people launching nukes at that one settler in FO4. I now recall that cathartic feeling I had from going to town in Riften when I was finally allowed to; cannot wait to repeat the experience.1 point

My new NMS pet - TulipHead. It was simply spawning all over on one of my home bases now. I haven't explored much/seen any of the other new exotic fauna. On the 55" OLED TV, this is way too white-bright/blown out. The visual upgrades are mostly nice/good, but bright white noon sun/clear skies/water on some planets were ugh. Turning TV settings down a bit more (I already have such pretty low, since dark room) helped tho.1 point

Xenonauts 2 - They still have one big update to go before the game is able to be finished, but I couldn't help myself. The game is fantastic early on. Fighting the cleaners at the start instead of jumping right into it with aliens is a nice touch. The combat is great. I've got 17 soldiers right now and they are starting to get a bit decent. I've got one sniper who leads the pack in kills. In the first downed UFO mission, he ended up with 4 kills, and the last one was with his sidearm after his rifle ran dry. He's a legend already.1 point

I never tried it myself but I remember seeing a YouTube video about an AI companion mod called Herika. Not only can you talk to her using your actual voice but you can actually *talk* to her. She's also surprisingly sassy. It uses chatGPT and it looks like a pretty unique experience;1 point

Weather being what it is, reinstalled Skyrim. Made a couple builds to roleplay someone other than stealthy archer who's a vampire werewolf fighter Arch-mage of thieves guild (though you'd have to pry kleptomania-for-everyone trait from my dead sticky fingers, that's one thing I'm not ready to not roleplay). Learning new things, such as how to kite when you play a mage. Anyways, there is a lot of things to do in Skyrim, but I'll have Cryostasis and Frostpunk queued in case hell-on-earth season lasts longer.1 point

Pursuer down, and to my surprise on a first try. And it happened at the elevated platform next to the exploded wall. I have summoned the shade behind the door locked by Soldier’s Key, and cleared the area, before climbing the ladder. The funny thing is, that soon after the start of the fight Pursuer knocked him down and he was not able to find a path back to ladder so I had to finish around 70% of his HP alone. It was anything, but walk in the park, the only thing, which saved my ass was higher level and Old Knight armour chest piece, which soaked a lot of damage. But, I have to admit, this platform gives much better opportunity to defend agains the Pursuer compared to his arena, due to being bigger. The downside is, that it is easy to drop down, if you are not watching the surrounding. In the end, it was a good decision to leave this boss for a later time, after clearing No-man’s Wharf. The extra levels and gear helped me a lot. Next in line will be the Ornstein Cosplayer, whose name I can’t remember now Of course, first I have to get through the big dragon guarding the cathedral, which might be also an issue for me In that case, I will have to go to Skeleton Lords or Ruin Sentinels. I sucked big time in vanilla DS2 at Sentinels and even bigger time at getting through trash mobs before the Lords. So I am not looking much forward to my next play sessions 16 wipes after 9 hours of playtime.1 point
