  3. I've been praying for a video game industry crash for like the past ten years, but haven't ever seen much evidence of it materializing. It'd hurt like hell in the short term, but it seems to be the only way forward to really shake things up and get another decade or two of good games instead of just...products only made for extracting money out of us. And if it kills off a few companies like Ubisoft in the process, how can you be upset about that? I'd drop a nuke on their headquarters myself if I could. ...Uh, maybe my rhetoric got a little extreme there, but you know what I mean.

  4. I disagree, I love that part of Monster Hunter, which is interesting since I don't normally like prolonged boss battles, but I love Monster Hunter's prolonged boss battles precisely because of this. I like having to chase the monster down after they flee when you get them significantly injured. I like the tracking part before the battle too. Dragon's Dogma didn't copy those parts, though, just the actual combat where characters can try to climb onto giant monsters in an effort to stab a vital spot. It's not exactly the same, of course. Either way, hopefully DD2 winds up being as good as it looks, because it looks pretty awesome.

  6. Two priests can be very benefical - especially early in the game - because their Inspiring Radiance (+10 accuracy in an AoE) will stack with everything, even with each other. That's either "free" and stackable +20 ACC for a shorter time or 2 times +10 ACC (twice the duration). Also a problem of a priests can be the time it takes to put out multiple buffs at the start of an encounter. Two priests speed up that process immensely (for example one is casting Blessing while the other casts Devotions for the Faithful). And of course after a certain level priests also become offensive powerhouses.

  7. Dragon's Dogma 2 is less than a month away. I've long been puzzled as to why more games don't copy Monster Hunter's combat. Over the last decade or so, everybody and their grandmother have tried to copy Dark Souls combat, and with good reason. Very few games have tried to copy Monster Hunter combat, despite the fact that it is the gold standard for fighting gargantuan beasts IMHO. One of the few games that did copy Monster Hunter was the original Dragon's Dogma, I believe some of them worked on Monster Hunter previously, so it makes sense. Anyway, this game looks ****ing awesome.

  9. I liked the intro in Saints Row. I like the player character trying to keep an honest job as a Merc and get a paycheck. Yeah, it aims at a different audience, but I realised I am this audience as well I found the jailbreak intro of SR2 the most powerful, but the reimagined SR's the most enjoyable. The bank robbery in SR3 I found annoying and nearly quit playing because of it.

  10. New biting Whip compared to Draining Whip : +20% raw lash damages Only 62,5% of focus per damages compared to DW. But since you do ~120% damages, you generate 75% focus. Soul annihilation bonus damages get x1.33 special multiplicator. Which compensate lower focus generation. So in a nutshell BW vs DW : x1.2 weapon damages x0.75 focus x1 soul annihilation bonus damages. I your case, BW feels the better choices, but DW would give you more versatility.

  11. Saints Row The active graphical settings are highly unlikely to be used by anyone else, so it might be not exactly representative. There is something amusing about this. The low visibility is intentional. The cat looks a bit off, but good enough for the first actual cat in the series.

  12. So I watched that latest Indiana Jones and... it's technically not a bad movie, imo. Thinking about it, there really is only one thing I have issues with.... it's too much of everything action. You just run from one action setpiece to the next, constantly, for 2+ hours (can't remember how long it was). At some point it just felt like too much to me and it stopped being interesting. Did everyone forget that you have to give a break to your viewers? If you go full autofire for the whole of the movie, everything will feel bland. Few days later I've finally watched the latest John Wick and ... yeah, it's exactly the same. You jump from one action setpiece to the next, without any kind of break. The action scenes looked very nice, but also unbelievably stupid. Fighting against guns with sword and bow? Kevlar suits where bullets bounce off of with sparks? Riiight.... Also I really hate how they bloated up the whole assassine universe. The first movie was epic and perfect, because it still felt grounded in reality. Now they muddied it up so much, you gotta go in without a brain to enjoy it. Then at some point I felt like... finally the movie is almost over... and it kept going... and going... so I paused to check the time... 1 hour left to go, wtf. This is where I mentally started to check out. Went to my PC and read some mails, browsed the forum, etc... when I came back to the movie, it was like I didn't missed out on anything at all. tl;dr ... I feel like this should have remained a 1 movie thing. Now it's just stupid and exhausting.

  13. Sure, but CIG is in a unique situation amongst the gaming space since their money generally doesn't come from a publisher, and doesn't have a release date. If they get low on cash they release a new jpg and people typically throw money at them.

  14. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) I think I saw this for the first time with an ex back in my early 20s and I was too distracted to really appreciate it. Coming back to it as an older and marginally wiser man I want to go back and slap my younger self for yet another reason. This film is great, no qualifications. It beautifully does magical realism in a way that Sorry to Bother You (2018) did, but on a much more personal level to illustrate the breakup of a couple. For starters, the world feels lived in. The apartments look like what I wake up in, the doctor's office feels like what I deal with when I go for a yearly physical, etc. Obviously it has the advantage of being set in the real world, but it's the small things you wouldn't notice unless they weren't there that really make it. While some hacks may hate it, the film feels driven by dialogue and that works here perfectly. Joel and Clementine fight a lot during the film and if you've ever been in a relationship or known those who have you will absolutely recognize at least some of it. It's got a stellar cast and virtually all of them kill it in parts big or small, everyone flawed in the same ways that you or I or others that we know are. It's also visually incredible. The dream/memory erasing scenes are simple but work to much better effect than big budget stuff that looks like an old videogame within 5 years. The frozen landscape (and the temperature drop around Houston) made me shiver. All in all this is a hard reccomend for anyone and everyone who hasn't seen it already.

  17. Picked up the physical dvd set of Dollhouse, so having a slow binge of that over the weekend. It's a little interesting to have the commentary of Eliza Dushku and Joss Whedon having a jokey banter over it all and Joss apologising for going too Michael Bay with camera shots between motorbikes and focusing on short skirts and that mix of occasional OTT byplay.

  18. The Grey Sleeper was the only one which really stood out to me. Probably cos of the associated quest. Not really into the whole 'kill ten enemies to upgrade' thing. Just reminds me of Call of Duty style perks or whatever. When you have to do the same crap to level up.

  19. But the problem with the soulbound weapons is that they didn't really feel unique, they felt like generic super-items that try too hard not to be generic and end up being a generic representation of a category of their own. IE, soulbound weapons. I'm all for making unique weapons and other equipment, but making a special category for all of them and have them all behave in the same manner just defeats the whole point. I'd rather just have all the honestly generic stuff. I know that the way crafting worked kinda killed all the non-soulbound items in the game as far as personality goes, but that's not a problem in how the items were made, it's a problem with the crafting.

  20. adjective adjective: generic derogatory lacking imagination or individuality; predictable and unoriginal. "generic dance-floor fillers" naughty boy let google light the way... at least this once. https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/generic sure, generic can be derogatory, but am suspecting we weren't only person to be surprised to see "1." for such a definition. HA! Good Fun!

  21. I really don't understand this "ordinary stuff is dull" - thinking, I think over-inflated 'special' stuff is the very epitome of dull. Special isn't special anymore if there's too much special everywhere. Kinda the same reason I don't like the god-like races; they're simply too far out there to be so common. Same with the soulbound items, none of them were anything more than stat-boosts with an annoying grindy-extra-mechanic. You didn't get them under any special circumstances, you didn't work for them, you didn't even look for them, you just got them while doing the same stuff you would've done anyway. You don't create interesting weapons by having a 'weapon system', that stuff needs to be hand-crafted, the legendary items need to be mentioned in-game by NPCs and books, and they definitely don't need extra mechanics that put them into a category instead of making them unique. The soulbound items feel more like merchandising-crap than actual important objects in a fantasy world.

  22. My dad's back in the hospital, heart and lung issues are coming back. I'm trying not to be angry at him but his refusal to let anyone help him with anything until he practically collapses and his apparent delusion at the reality of his situation is just making me furious. I'm not a doctor and may be rushing to judgement but the fact is that he did not give himself time to rest and kept on trying to do stuff that left him winded and begging for help.
