Very interesting! Likely to be meaningless, too, in the sense that the money is never going to be paid. Which reminds me: I was recently listening to this superb series by Timothy Snyder, and he argued and explained how the Soviet system relied on the complete lack of responsibility (for all the terror it caused). Absolutely chilling stuff. It seems to me that this continues in Russia today. Check out this episode and the next, although you probably know this already. But @BruceVC will probably find this fascinating, too:3 points

I would not be so sure about this. This is not the first case, and in one going about 4 billions USD to UA oil company from Crimea, even Lavrov was very reluctant on not complying with that court order And from the orders like this, it seems like, if the losing side is not willing to pay, the winning side can enforce the sale of losers assets in other countries as well, and they have to comply. https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/06/23/7408149/ And there is another fat arbitration against Russia going on again (not connected to UA). https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-11-01/russia-must-face-60-billion-uk-trial-over-yukos-oil-arbitration-award#xj4y7vzkg2 points

I can try: You have very reasonable, good, quality doubts. You are not alone in your doubts. Your doubts are shared by others, even in this community. Your doubts do not make you a bad person. You may try mantras like these to help you accept your doubts: These are my doubts, There are many like them, But these ones are mine. I am at one with my doubts, That are with me on this adventure. This is me breathing.2 points

Reminds of this I still get a kick out of the fact that when my son does imaginary phone calls he does it with a flat hand instead of a fist with the thumb and pinky out, but that's what a phone is to him.1 point

Those are Medical Eye Patches as far as I know. Yoshihiko Noda made a stir appearing with one covering a black eye in January 2012 when he was PM. I've seen reference to them being prescribed for a variety of things, from detached retinas to styes.1 point

NG+ where you repeat the main quest doesn't make much sense You fly around in a ship with unknown technology, you can turn invisible, stop time, etc. and yet no one really asks any questions1 point

So for the main story it's Tokyo Ghoul, with √A being s2 and re being s3-4. Jack is a prequel and pinto is a one-shot. I don't know, I've never seen any explanation within any anime or about anime from creators or community. It does look weird and within anime I think the black or decorated eye patches look better than the eye mask/diaper.1 point

But I didn't say that. I said that our international organizations, such as the UN, are useless in stopping things like this. I did not say they are useless because they cannot stop things like this.1 point

General rule of thumb: never assume our current government knows or understands anything, and you're good. Our chancellor's reaction to the steep rise in food prices was let them eat cake, in a 21st century variation, i.e. let them buy burgers at McDonald's. Bunch of clowns wouldn't find their own noses if they weren't attached to their faces.1 point

Iron Oath is releasing version 1.0. It sounds like a good Battle Brothers type game, so I'm picking it up. It's quite a good price. https://www.gog.com/game/the_iron_oath1 point

Tokyo Ghoul s1 It's pretty good, sort of straddles the line between a shonen and a sienen. It's much better when it hews close to the latter and almost gets into Evangelion territory with the final episode, but it doesn't feel as embarrassing to watch as something like Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood's silly aspects.0 points

The Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Adventures of Unico (1981). I had to check and make sure that Isao Takahata didn't have a writing credit for this, for multiple reasons. One reason is that it's a really quite good, very cute, and rather lovely children's movie, and the second reason is... I'm all for traumatizing children, but even I have my limits. Premise of the film is that Unico is a magical unicorn whose ability to inspire peace and friendship the gods (who it must be said appear rather Greek in both appearance and disposition) grow so envious of, they first exile and then hunt him wherever he goes. The film is animated by my guys at Madhouse, though I surprisingly did not know that before I watched it.0 points

It's not looking good. If a proper fatigue sets in on the Ukraine question, Russia will eventually score at least some kind of victory, and will ultimately perhaps swallow even the whole of Ukraine. That will be a lesson for all autocrats everywhere: simply be persistent and ruthless, and "the west" will give up. Now, there is no question that "the west" is, in many ways, very weak, although it is quite strong in other ways. And the more one looks into the near history of the Ukraine conflict, the more obvious it becomes that Putin was justified in regarding the west as weaklings and idiots (I mean, everything from Syria to Trump and beyond). The question is manifold and complicated, but I think there's definitely one significant contributing factor: when life gets too easy, a lot of people will become uninterested, unengaged, complacent, uneducated, very easily shaken and lazy.0 points
