I've been theorycrafting a Conjurer build that makes use of the +2 PL bonus with Conjuration spells in a way that's more substantive than the conventional wisdom of using summoned weapons with them, as I find that the mere +duration you get with Conjurer summoned weapons isn't a particularly advantageous usage of the power level bonus, especially for the tradeoff of losing two other spell schools for it. I was looking at the damage spells from the Conjuration school to better leverage the subclass bonus when it occurred to me that Voidwheel can cast Necrotic Lance and Engoliero do Espirs can cast Ghost Blades, both of which are Conjuration spells. I wanted to see if the spells cast from these weapons would get the Conjurer PL bonus on top of the weapon quality scaling. To that end, I tested this by creating two single-classed Wizards, one a Conjurer and the other no-subclass, with identical stats. For a control group, I had them cast Necrotic Lance and Ghost Blades as spells from their spellbooks. As expected, the Conjurer got +0.5 higher penetration and had longer duration in the case of Necrotic Lance's secondary DoT damage effect. However, proccing these spells from the weapons did not get the Conjurer's +2 Conjuration PL bonus. While you do get scaling from the weapon quality, these weapon-triggered spells performed the same in the hands of both the subclass-less Wizard and Conjurer. One interesting thing I noted was that the duration of the secondary DoT from Voidwheel's Necrotic Lance was lower than the duration of the casted spell version. I suspect the weapon just uses base duration (it, however, still gets Intellect scaling as normal since casting Infuse With Vital Essence increased the duration). While I was at it, I wanted to test if Substantial Phantom got the Conjurer's PL bonus since it does get Necrotic Lance as part of the selection of spells it's able to cast. Unfortunately, the Conjurer's PL bonus does not get carried over to the Substantial Phantom copy when it casts the relevant Conjuration spell. Again, the Substantial Phantom performed identically between the Conjurer and no-subclass Wizard. Interestingly, the version of Necrotic Lance casted by the Substantial Phantom was slightly inferior to the no-subclass Wizard, having less penetration and secondary DoT length. Weapons copied over to the Phantoms also didn't make any difference in terms of the spells procced from them. Just thought I should share these findings to the board for the sake of posterity and in case anyone else was curious about this interaction. This is on the vanilla version of the game without the community or balance patches, by the way. I'm posting this on my lunchbreak but I'll throw up the hard numbers from the test later when I get back home.1 point

desperation? the gop doesn't have a platform at present. they are a party of outrage and grievance. current republicans is not for anything, but they are against a whole lot. it is much easier to be against something than it is to come up with plans to fix problems which has persisted and become worse over decades of time. implementing those solutions successful is even more difficult and politically hazardous. the thing is, since at least ww2, americans has demanded results far more than they has been concerned with ideology or political performance theatre. sure, maybe you get elected on impossible promises, but if you don't deliver, americans will turn on you... fast. however, in 2023, the republican party leader is a demagogue, something aberrational in US politics for a long time. counter-intuitive and unreasonable the working class doesn't even expect results. they want the gop to fight the authoritarian dems, crt, the rainbow flag and mask recommendations. trying to figure out the crazy o' the gop is less difficult if you recognize that their goal is to look like they are fighting. is kinda bizarre, but fixing working class problems actual hurts the gop. the only reason the gop appeals to the working class is 'cause those folks is suffering and are angry, so a nonsense platform o' outrage and grievance is effective. HA! Good Fun!1 point

it is too bad the separatist is a wotr archetype. the mythic powhaz make the separatist a trap option unless you are using it exclusive for the through the ashes and lord of nothing dlc. am remaining highly suspicious o' the shadowcaster implementation. is no way to do shadowcaster exact like pnp. crpgs is fundamental different from pnp, so different is not a problem in our estimation. the thing is, shadow spells has been buggy since release and they continue to work not quite as their in-game descriptions suggest. regardless, we were pleasant surprised by through the ashes. owlcat attempted to do something different with their implementation o' pathfinder rules compared to what they showed us for kingmaker and most o' wotr. through the ashes was not perfect, but we were mighty optimistic about the different approach owlcat took insofar as encounter and level design. am looking forward to the dlc #5. ... we will say, lord of nothing is either a brave or foolish name choice. both? is a freaking cartoon bullseye, no? game "journalists" is hardly the most mature or clever group you are likely to encounter, so it takes little imagination to anticipate the various puns and in-jokes the dlc will spawn, particularly if the owlcat offering is lackluster or bad. HA! Good Fun!1 point

If it's about Sneak Attack it would indeed be best to go with a Priest of Skaen and and pick Apprentice's Sneak Attack on top of the lesser Sneak Attack the Priest of Skean can get as a talent. That combination would be nearly as good in terms of damage bonus as the Rogue's Sneak Attack and you'll have the accuracy base of a fighter (which is great). The dispositions of a Priest only affect his Holy Radiance. Mechanically that's not a big loss of you don't need the healing and vessel damage a lot. So you could play a somewhat conflicted Priest of Skean without gimping yourself too much imo (without using Untroubled Faith). Besides that it's not that hard to use a cruel option every now and then and on other situations pick a "neutral" option. Imo one can play a Priest of Skaen without being a cruel psychopath. Skaen has some aspects that also "good" characters could agree with - but the whole package kind of bad. Maybe one could concentrate on the agreeable aspacts and kind of ignore the rest. Maybe your character has set out to reform the church of Skaen, who knows? If the damage bonus from Sneak Attacks isn't important but it's more about the non-combat stuff a "Thief" can do (stealth, mechanics etc.) then there's no need to pick a Priest of Skaen. Just improve the mechanics and stealth skills and pick an appropriate Priest subclass.1 point

Whereas the democrats (at least outwardly) seem like a party in unison, even people like AOC whose entire appeal was that she was supposed to shake up the party and challenge the establishment, have bent the knee and fallen in line. The republican party is a party in flux, Trump's victory in 2016 really shook the party up, both for better and for worse. You have those trying to bring the republican party back to what it was before Trump, the Bush/Cheney neocon type republicans. You have bible thumping, old skool traditional family values types, and you have some republicans riding the populist wave, or at least presenting themselves as such. I don't know how genuine they are, but they are filling the vacuum created when the democrats abandoned the working class.1 point

There needs to happen miracle, in order to avoid absolute tragedy. But I am not sure that such miracle is showing up. Israel's current government is hardcore zionists and they got in power by promising security, but now deadliest attack in Israel's modern history has happened and it targeted primary civilians. So they most likely use more harsher methods than needed in order to save their faces. Gaza has been controlled by Hamas now for 16 years, and they are extremist whose main goal is destruction of Israel and killing all the jews. So there is high likelihood that they will pour more fuel in the flames. And forces that could put some restrictions in conflict have their own issues that hinder quite lot how much effort they will put in UN has failed for long time get any meaningful resolutions because there never seems to be any unity in world anymore Ukraine war has eaten lot of resources and will to prevent conflicts. In many European countries far right parties that most likely will not put any effort to prevent mass killing of Muslims, have won most recent elections. USA is divided and its governance is paralyzed and they usually by default support anything that Israel does. Iran is flexing its muscles when no one is looking because of other conflicts. Russia and China have their own agendas that benefit from conflict that draws world eyes aways from them. Turkey wants to be leader of muslim world, but also has its own internal issues and they usually don't want vex USA in Israel questions. Saudi Arabia does not have much love towards Palestine as they are too chummy with Iran So we can only hope that extremist leaderships of Israel and Palestine will see reason even though they have seek destruction of each other for long time.1 point

Robert F Kennedy Jr. has left the authoritarian party and declared himself an independent for the 2024 presidential election. I was told if I did hire max frigates, all those msg's etc. would stop. So I did. Turns out max is 30. I now have a fleet. Plus once again I was delighted that I could "board" every single frigate, walk all over on the outsides, look inside. There isn't much point to it but virtual tourism (if they come back damaged from an expedition, there *is* a go-there and click stuff to repair them element) but it's impressive/fun and grand tourism. I've decided this game is an amusement park, with sandbox elements.1 point

So, I got that freighter, deco'd it a bit, then left, fully intending to ignore it. But now every time I warp anywhere and fleets pop into the system, I'm bombarded with "hey don't you want to hire my frigate" messages if I get anywhere near them. Which I could ignore, but it's annoying. There's a whole mini-game re: freighters/fleets/expeditions (expeditions mostly make you items/money passively), which I'm not ready/willing for. Should I copy back/reload the save folder just before I bought it? Hmm...maybe if I just delete that command room module? Or hire max frigates no matter the type and maybe they'll shut up then and leave me in peace? Haha. Game dilemmas!1 point

I finally got into Dogtown. I had the opportunity long ago but I wound up doing a bunch of other side stuff. Holy smokes was that a lengthy series of setpieces. They were cool setpieces but it drives me nuts when an open world game straps you into a 3 hour long setpiece and there's nothing else you can do but see it through to the end. It just keeps going and going and going and going and I'm like "can I please get the **** off this ride and back to being able to do whatever I want?" Anyway, I like Myers. I don't completely trust her, but she makes a great first impression. Songbird, on the other hand, I don't trust one bit.1 point

Just a bit of sound track music. Too many variants and cover versions on youtube to pick from, so I picked one from the tv series. It appeals to my inner Norse I guess.1 point

"There are many like it, but this one is mine." ...finding a system that had the right fleets pop, and then the reload-grind to get the specific freighter to be actually offered, plus as over a B class was long. I got impatient re: an "S" class and settled on an "A" class. ...there are some much more unique/kewl freighters in the game I think, but I would guess they are hard to find/get. ...looks like you can build a huge modular-room base on the thing (red-lined squares in pic below are player-placed). To the point it would get annoying to run around in. But I hear getting the freighter modules/currency to unlock more/all the modular rooms/thingies for it are a serious PITA. I probably won't bother. In fact, I probably won't use it, since I'm not interested in quests/combat etc, altho who knows. But I had to have the ST/SW combo one. And now I know what they're like.1 point

Well two things can be true at the same time and this would apply to Russia and what people think about there military effectiveness but also the military threat they represent And we can use Ukraine as an example to demonstrate that, Russia didnt defeat Ukraine in 2 months and we all seen the numerous failures with there military strategies and how ineffectively they do certain things. But they have successfully destroyed cities, killed thousands of Ukrainians and continue to use missiles to attack infrastructure and spread terror And no country would want to face this, so you live in fear of a Russian attack but that doesnt mean you think there military is the problem. Its the overall strategy they will use to achieve victory. And also a small country like Estonia would not be able to create the same resistance like Ukraine so it differs from country to country So you can definitely criticize aspects of the Russian military but thats not the same thing as saying most East European countries dont have a legitimate fear of Russian invasion1 point

Assassin changes Edit: besides Mythic poison, they also said in the comments that they will include mythic armor and shield training in the same patch. As for other changes to the assassin, Some people raised concerns about the int modifier and enemies that are immune to ability damage and crits. I wonder if a Legend combining this class with Executioner would have some benefit. Or would you simply end up with two types of assassinate abilities with different scalings? Too late here to think clearly, I have to go to bed...1 point

This is a compilation of all skill checks found in the game. How it works The number on the left is the skill required. After that, there are three lines. The line associated with the skill check will be the first or the second; the others are there to provide context. The flow of the conversation is always top to bottom. Sometimes there isn't a line because the check is at the beginning/end of an interaction or it's a ghost node that immediately sends you elsewhere. Because of how conversations can diverge and converge, sometimes there are several options. If the text is in red, it means this is what you will see if you fail the skill check. Have this much skill to avoid that result. Scripted interactions only. The wrong line of the three may be highlighted, but it generally holds. What is Party Assist? Essentially, the party member attempting to pass a skill check uses their full skill plus a portion of the rest of the party's skill. Read more here. Future work Update current data with alternate ways to pass the skill checks. Update current data with additional requirements - some checks are AND/OR constructs. Proofreading info A skill comparison can be <=, <, > or >=. Or =, but it's never used. It can also be negated, so not <= means >. This is a minor brain bomb to parse, so it's possible some stuff ended up wrong. There are also checks that are unreachable (no sequence of interactions will lead to them), but still get found by my parsing and end up in this thread. Some lines will also look strange or not really related to the skill due to the trigger/result problem I described in the first paragraph. I will not be fixing individual errors, but if a pattern emerges that speaks of a programming mistake, I will try to fix it and post the info again. It's half an hour two hours of work, so... I'll just make it clear here that both the data digging and the formatting are automated, so "minor adjustments" are not really a thing, just code fixes. It's very cumbersome to edit these posts - their size alone slows my computer down. Think then what happens when added info makes a post too large for the forum to accept it, and I have to redistribute everything. Thanks to @Kvellen and @Noqn for helping me make sense of the data!1 point

All, Party Assist These are typically challenges in scripted interactions that everyone has to pass, like climbing or sneaking. Athletics Stealth =============================================================== All, No Assist A few physical challenges that nobody gets to help anyone with! Is this even possible? I was excited when the developers said that the game could be completed without killing anyone. I've succeeded in that so far, but I'm still very early in the game. However, there are clearly areas that you can't stealth or talk your way through. I've taken a stance lately about avoiding indiscriminate killing in games. I'm not going to kill a guy just because he's standing in the way of the door I want to go through even if he's just a 1 dimensional, shoot on sight goon. In one area I found a stun baton and thought "Finally, here's a non-lethal way to progress, just knock them out a la Deus Ex." Two whacks later and the guard is dead. Whelp, so much for that. Reload. So, are there any real non lethal options built into the game?1 point
-
I support this too. I would be even happy for a simple knife based lethal takedown option as of now - it could be limited to enemies with exposed heads / non-heavy armor. Of course options for non-lethal knockout, sleep darts, AI reacting to bodies found, and the ability to move bodies would make it whole. But maybe I have spent too much time with Arkane games recently. In any case I welcome games which allow for non-violent options - though I am not against some more lethal action as long it is justified properly, and it does work within the story and characters and avoids glorifying violence (so not like the new Tomb Raider and Wolfenstein games). Titles such as Deus Ex, Dishonored, Metro series or the new Prey even rewards the non-violent way. From this point Outer Worlds delivers too I think.1 point

Hi, everybody! I want to present you my build of solo roleplay PoTD Skaen priest. As any good story, we have interlude, then Aumaua young man journey begins. Then 4 key stages of character growth: Low level 1 -4, he is young and weak, shadows and lockpicks his best friends. The best battle is that not happend. Escape foes as much as it possible, gain expirience and items. Pre mid levels (4 - 8 ) Kill Maerwald, get Dial Ewn Dibita and buy war club of the Mataru, solve quests, feel free. At this stage, character ready to take a step out of the shadows and improve social skills. Also, as much as he hates cold as he loves snow walleys. Stalwart calls! The Rise of the Priest (8 - 12) At level 8 You gain Shining Beacon and Scion of flame, you're using divine powers more frequent than brute force. Control and dominate. Scrolls of Paralyze and Confusion, potions. Face your doom (12+) Bounties are very interesting and bring the most experience this time. Prepare to face Skaen and serve his will, but before so much interesting. Dragons, Dungeons, Zealots, You get Hylea's boon to reach Lore 10. Maelstrom is pretty nice sometimes.
