  1. End of the FY, so work is going through that usual type of thing. Since all my responsibilities are sorted for it, I'm taking advantage to putter away on my Mando stuff between poking at the work thing. Currently, semi-optimistic. In the process of weathering it all appropriately, then I have to worry on the strapping and getting leatherwork done before next Thursday.... On the ticket front, apparently they got sent to the wrong address.. and signed for, and no-one commented it was a different address and a person who didn't live there. Royal Mail have collected it all and got it to me correctly, so I have a shiny lanyard and celebration patch and a 4-day pass ... But the pass was cancelled by ReedPop when I let them know there might be an issue, so I'm going to have to struggle with the Registration desk, with photo ID and confimation of order in the hectic crowds on the day. C'est la vie.

  3. Speaking of long form videos channels, this was for the longest while the only channel I subscribed to: Joe's not been very active mostly because he's been unable to properly finish his The Witcher 3 video. It was supposed to be one video about the trilogy but YouTube had technical issues uploading an eight hour 1080p60 video and so he split it in three parts, reworked them, and only managed to release two of them in three years now. He even deleted his 5000$-a-month Patreon account because he feels bad about not finishing it. I guess it'll be done when it is done, in other words, there's a good chance that The Winds of Winter will release earlier. Other noteworthies, just without images: SummoningSalt - long form speedrun documentaries. RLM - well, needs no real introduction, been a fan of theirs for a long while now, even before they moved to YouTube. Plus some other bits and pieces that probably aren't too interesting.

  4. My three main subscriptions these days are all long-form content people. RedLetterMedia... ...which most everyone here should be at least passingly familiar with for one reason or another, Ask a Mortician... ...who isn't really what her epithet implies, she just makes research videos (or relies on her own expertise being a mortuary director for many years and generally being on the in with such things) about any and all matters related to death. In more recent years, she seems to be covering death-related stories of note rather than anything "ask a mortician"-specific, and I am totally okay with that. ...hbomberguy... ...who is an insane person that makes extraordinarily long but very entertaining research videos about a very random collection of subjects. And then...well, Lindsay Ellis is dead, matthewmatosis is dead, the only amateur singer I've ever subscribed to on YouTube is dead, most everyone else is dead. So long and thinks for all the fish, people. If anyone has suggestions for other interesting long-form content, feel free to suggest - I don't really have the patience or attention span for short stuff. I can't guarantee that I'll like it, but I'll at least give it a try. (Editor's note: The people previously mentioned are not actually dead, just inactive on YouTube. In other words, they are dead.)

  8. Conan Exiles - This sorcerer stuff is fantastic. I think I get a golem eventually. I had to restart, but that's no issue, since I love the early game. The new journey stuff is different, but it makes for a good change of pace. They also redid the intro a bit. The crafting hammer makes construction much easier too.

  9. I've been thinking about doing this topic for a long time. The idea is to share your favorite channels, or the channels you are subscribed to. Here are mine: It's mostly mechanical stuff, restorations and car stuff, oh and Project Farm, he reviews everyday items in very innovative ways. My favorite ones are probably m539, south main auto, Baumgartner and ronald finger. I guess Primitive Technology is getting back in to the swing of things. Guess it would help to do a short description of each channel... South main auto - An honest mechanics shop and his day to day work Cutting Edge Engineering - an Aussie metal worker who fabricates and repairs parts for heavy duty machinery Marty T - A New Zealander living in the outback and restoring random junk M539 - BMW enthusiast who buys and repairs BMWs and usually sells them after Hoonigan - Ken Block media house which got famous with those Ken Block drift videos. They do random car stuff on that channel, but the quality is really random too. Throttle House - 2 Canadians (one is from England) reviewing cars Watch Wes Work - A small mechanics shop in a middle of no where Project Farm - Tool review/test channel (very useful channel) Tokyo Liama - Australian expat restoring a traditional Japanese house Baumgartner Restoration - An art conservator who restores paintings Andrew Camarata - A guy who builds a castle and plays around with his heavy machinery toys. Very long videos, but also very entertaining. Fuzzy Dice Project - How to restore cars as cheaply as possible Bedo's Letherwork - A cobbler and his day to day work Jafromobile - This channel is pretty old and niche. About a guy and his Hyundai Elantra trying to set good drag strip times. Mateusz Doniec - A very good fabricator Ronald Finger - A guy on a quest to restore a Pontiac Fiero. Good production quality. Primitive Technology - About a guy doing primitive technology. Think about what you could do if someone left you naked in a forest. my mechanics - A very meticulous tool restorer, who basically restores tools to better than new bad obsession motor sport - Two Englishmen on a never ending quest to create a 4 wheel drive rally mini. Geoffrey Croker - Man vs rust

  11. I'm not too interested in most of what they talk about either - between Hollywood trash, the endless B-movies, Star Wars, Star Trek, and a plethora of other things I am not interested in, I would say roughly 95% of what they talk about is of no interest to me at all. Thing is, I like them as characters/personalities. Truth be told, I have had pretty terrible anxiety about death basically ever since I could form conscious/deliberate thought (which was like...when I was 5), so the stuff Ask a Mortician talks about isn't really what I'd ideally be watching either, but...I like her too, so it just doesn't really matter. For me, the entertainer themselves is usually a lot more important than necessarily what they entertain me with.

  12. @Bartimaeus I do know about red letter media, but as I don't consume that many movies and tv shows anymore there is no appeal for me. There is also the laugh... Oh man, there is a channel that does very similar stuff (analyses films from a technical perspective), but it's been ages since I've seen it. I'll try to find it as I think you would like it. edit: Or it could very well be that it's the same channel...

I do like Every Frame a Painting and David Lynch Theater, but the former stopped doing videos a long time ago and the latter stopped doing videos after Angelo Badalamenti died. InRange TV is okay I guess.

  14. is a long list o' rich people who has gone to prison, including micheal cohen... and is worth mentioning cohen 'cause ny is gonna try and says cohen went to prison for trump. 'course convicting trump for the pr0n star hush-money is not as ez as a few pundits make it sound in part 'cause the system is rigged in favour o' defendants, as tough as that may be to believe for all the angry libs out there. european countries don't have anything like the exclusionary rule and the whole grand jury process itself went outta vogue for euros in the late 1700s. standards o' proof is much higher in the US compared to near all europe and asia. however, even in 2023, most juries assume cops is telling the truth which ain't a matter o' law but o' culture. etc. the reason(s) we got so many in prison here in the US is social, economic and cultural (and kinda unforgivable) but the US legal system is in fact far more defendant friendly than other western nations and democratic republics. however, is true you ain't getting a full and vigorous defense in the US unless you pay for it, so the rich do enjoy substantial benefits. heck kyle rittenhouse weren't wealthy but arguable one reason he stayed outta prison for his stoopid is 'cause his crowdfunding efforts resulted in a significant war chest for his criminal defense. regardless, if trump don't go to prison for pr0n star hush-money is gonna be less 'cause the rich get away with everything as 'posed to fact nobody has ever been successful convicted in ny for what the manhattan da is attempting to prosecute trump. the US Government went after john edwards for something similar in 2011 and they failed. ny faces a tougher challenge than US v. edwards, so... trump is a terrible person, but you don't go to prison for being terrible. our overcrowded prisons would have 100x as many people locked up if being terrible were enough to get you imprisoned. for those who loathe trump and want to see justice done, am recommending not holding your breath waiting for the guilty verdict from ny. the tax evasion thing is a real problem for trump if bragg went that way, but am just not confident trump ends up behind bars for hush-money payment reporting fails. edit: also is noteworthy the doj didn't choose to go after trump for the fed election/tax issues once 45 left office. am understanding the main hurdle for indictment were the fact the feds thought michael cohen were a terrible witness, and am gonna suggest that for a successful hush-money prosecution, cohen needs be better than terrible. also, as difficult as is gonna be to believe, from our pov the more significant legal news from today is not the hoopla regarding trump. dude. ... dude. "In its partial ruling in favor of Dominion, the court did determine statements made by Fox were statements of fact and were not statements of opinion." "The court also determined that Fox "cannot avail themselves of certain defenses like the neutral report and fair report privileges or the privilege for opinion"" furthermore, punitive damages were not excluded, which am thinking is nevertheless a tough mountain for dominion to climb but such damages is the kinda thing which could result in serious pain for fox and real changes to US journalism in general. fox reaction to today's dueling summary judgement rulings. HA! Good Fun!

  15. If you mean specifically me, well, all I can say is my dear Sarex...please consider the person who you speaking to! Do I really seem like the type of person that would find any value in automated suggestions? My first subscription to a channel predated YouTube and Google merging, and I previously mentioned that I'm only subscribed to around 5 channels*. Think about how long that is and how picky I am about movies, TV shows, books, music, et cetera. I don't think I have ever, even once, subscribed to a channel that I just randomly came across by way of YouTube's suggestions/related videos - all channels I have come across have either been by searches that I've done or specific suggestions other actual people have made to me. With the way YouTube currently works and the 'quality' of their suggestions, I do not believe it is even possible for them to suggest anything that would be of interest to me. *This is not quite accurate, but the spirit of it is: I'm subscribed to around 15 different channels, but only five of them have posted anything within the past year. So what I actually meant is that I'm only subscribed to five channels that are currently active. Little different, but more or less the same. Well, I don't use bookmarks for frequently visited sites. For example, my process for coming here is hitting CTRL+T (new tab...or F6 if I want to edit the current URL) + "obs" + down arrow + enter -> I am now on the Obsidian forums. It's quicker than using a bookmark, I don't even have to touch my mouse. With YouTube, it's easier to be subscribed because that way I don't have to manually navigate to each channel and then go to the videos tab of each person I am subscribed to (because the "home" of each channel doesn't usually even display new videos for some gosh-forsaken reason). As previously mentioned, I am also subscribed to some people who are inactive, and even some of the people who are active only post a video every 1-2 months, so manually navigating to check would be a patently absurd approach.

  16. Yep I can verify this can easily solo the game, BUT this combo requires community patch for focus generation to work correctly. I'd do a pure forbidden fist, you don't have to cast spells as often, and it doesn't require the community patch (though I'd recommend using it anyway). The main thing to note is with a forbidden fist using the forbidden fist attack causes "forbidden curse" to build up, so you have to have a pretty specific stat spread for you to be able to spam forbidden fist without damaging yourself. The relationship between intelligence (makes the curse longer, but also your buffs), dexterity (how fast you can spam forbidden fist), and resolve (reduces the curse duration) is a little tricky but once you get it right it is very easy. Basically you want 35 resolve or as close to that as you can get. It is actually doable with the right items, boons, and buffs, even without a steadfast inspiration (which soul blade could give you for +5 resolve). Check this thread for specifics and also an alternate multiclass build that would fulfill what you're looking for. Then your intelligence should be no higher than 13, in which case you can dump dexterity to 3. You will still attack once per 2s roughly with monk's swift flurry. Alternatively you can dump intelligence, which allows you to attack a little faster, but your buffs won't last very long. Then again only buffs a SC monk really needs is swift flurry and clarity of agony. Clarity of agony is important for reducing hostile effect duration by 50%. With 35 res, 13 INT, 3 dex, swift flurry, clarity of agony, ring of the solitary wanderer, two-weapon style, dual-wielding, and strand of favor (all available before halfway through the game) the curse lasts about 2s and you can attack every 2s so it is perfectly balanced. If you want to be extra safe dump dex to 3 and leave INT no higher than 10, gives you a little more room regarding getting your resolve to 35. You should note without the community patch forbidden fist does not benefit from dual wielding, so in that case you don't dump dex, the curse will last the same amount of time but with 3 dex you can only attack once per 2.8s or so (with robes or no armor, which you don't need), so you'd want dex a bit higher. You don't need much CON, PER should be high, can have might wherever really, don't need a lot because the FF attack has a +50% damage modifier and you get another +60% or so from transcendent suffering. Then you can make a very simple script to buff yourself with clarity of agony with a cooldown of however long it lasts for your character, cast swift flurry when you don't have the dexterity inspiration, and attack with forbidden fist. Three blocks. If you want another good alternative FF / unbroken, this is made by @Not So Clever Hound

  17. My issue is that I'm actually subscribed to a handful of channels that I want to keep up with, and my home page used to be a disaster of utter garbage YouTube was trying to drown me with. If THE ALGORITHM hadn't so consistently recommended me things that have seemingly zero relation to things I have previously watched and/or the five or so people I'm subscribed to, I would be more tempted to let it be - instead, it was always just funnel town for trash clickbait as well as the legitimately insane, so it had to go. (e): Okay, yeah, I just disabled Unhook for a second and...Adam Sandler, shorts by INFLUENCERS, car news, random musical artists I've never even heard of...what the hell is all this crap? No, absolutely not.

  21. That is why I use private browsing and non google browsers. I even have youtube channels I watch in private/signed-out because I do not want my feed to be polluted with farming channels, chateau renovation or shoe cleaning (you would be surprised how many there are). 26. Star Dreck: Pikerd To paraphrase Hawkeye in Marvel's The Avengers: "You and I remember Deep Space Nine very differently." Dear Paramount, it is pretty cool that you stopped letting Jar Jar Abrams, Kurtzman and Goldsman mess up Star Trek for this season, but can you please force future showrunners to watch the entire Star Trek canon (ideally without nuTrek) before deciding on major plot points? Or at least make characters that should know better do something else than make a sad face at the poor sob story of a changeling subjected to torturous experiments who was clearly given wrong information about major historical events? Edit: Oh, and Picard and Beverly miss like twenty shots at point blank range. Not even Stormtroopers are that bad.

  27. Even ignoring the principal of it...if you live in a big city that where you have a lot of internet and server infrastructure pretty central to you, you might not be particularly bothered by the performance of always-online stuff. For those of us who live a bit farther out, and that's tens of millions of Americans at least and never mind the rest of the world, it can be a little bit of a different story. It's especially infuriating when it's completely unneeded from the perspective of just trying to play the game - it's one thing if it's an MMO and that's just a necessary part of the package, it's another if I'm trying to play a game that is a totally or predominantly singleplayer experience and it's being an unnecessary hassle. If my experience is improved by pirating instead of purchasing the game, you the developer/publisher have made what I would call a very grave error.

  28. At 17:00 - customizable difficulty via accessories (that show on-screen, can't hide you're using them). I think my lazy butt likes that way more than just an "Easy/Story" mode. So one can keep some combat elements normalized and others 1-button or slow-down/quicktime-like easy. I wasn't very interested in ff16 (even as an action game, nvm "FF game") but this video sorta makes me interested. Not just for that aspect, but overall too. Sideline: 24:00 - yes you can pet the dog. ...still, I'm not sure. Difficulty customization doesn't mean it'll be fun to actually play through the whole game. Also the way AAA PC releases have been going recently, I feel like I should just get a PS5 be done with it. ...to paraphrase Asmongold: "On console, smooth 3 second load times. On PC, it'll crash." Haha, yea....

  29. Okay so now I can practice with Vela (thanks!), and I've made some progress but still haven't figured out this fight. If you start the fight stealthed, you immediately get unstealthed but you get initiative. If Vela happens to be directly behind you, you can sometimes keep the ranger and rogue from priority targeting her with thorny roots and eliminating blows. But she has to be like directly behind you as far as she can spawn, and I'm pretty sure her movements are random. If you start the fight stealthed AND invisible, then you can move far enough away to allow repositioning. In my ultimate run I did this to circle around and kill the ranger then rogue then the melees. But, I had procced conduit and blade cascade so I could down them in like 6s. Without these, circling around to zerg the ranger + rogue may not work. I did figure out how to start stealthed and invisible, though. With equipped Heaven's Cacophony, Kuaru's Prize, Strand of Favor, and Ooblit, I then use The Eye of Wael against Vela until I proc Obfuscation, which with these items and my INT score lasts 16.3s. After switching pets, rapidly opening The Changeling's Dance and mashing spacebar I then have about 1.8s of invisibility to run away from the fight. Some problems 1) It is much easier to protect Vela in turn based mode because I will act first and can keep Vela as far behind me as possible while rushing the enemy. But in turn based mode, I have 1 round of invisibility left (more like 0, but in effect one). But Vela just stands there even if I run away. 2) In RTWP, which I normally use, she immediately follows me and gets out of harm's way, but it is hard to get her to stay far enough away from the ranger that he doesn't hit her with thorny roots 3) If I weren't a stupid golem, I'd have options like take Vela to corner of map and use A Whale of A Wand on her to charm her so she stays there 4) If combat hadn't already started, I could get Vela where I want and then use console settactical mode 1, but you can't change from RTWP to turn-based once combat starts, even if nobody has done anything. So either she sits there in turn-based and gets murdered, or she follows me in RTWP, where I can get her far away but haven't figured out how to get her to stay there. This is tricky, may still be impossible to do with a high probability of success. If I start turn-based and am lucky enough for her to be behind me, then yeah I think I can do it, but it's freaking random so I guess I have to do RTWP. Ideally you just keep Vela out of range of everyone and then kill them in order @Kaylon suggested, monk, cipher, fighter, wolf, ranger, rogue, but if Vela wanders too close she gets hit with Thorny roots and everything falls apart. So one solution is to go ranger, rogue, monk, cipher, fighter, wolf, but they still may kill Vela before I can kill them and it makes it harder for me to survive. Definitely the trickiest fight to do under ultimate conditions... Also tried using A Whale of a Wand to charm Vela, but I guess that just works once combat is started? I was able to turn her into a pig. Thought maybe that would change her AI into running away, it actually does the opposite. She charges straight in and attacks, doing surprisingly good damage (for Vela). Even after the pig effect wore off she kept fighting for a few rounds before becoming terrified. Very strange. I'm also trying to kite the rogue, ranger, or wolf but the only kiting method I have is to stand on the edge of their stealth detection radius, let the circle go red, then run away, then try that again. Haven't been able to get far enough away to isolate anyone. @abot I figure if anyone knows how to deal with Vela here it would be you. Though I saw in your ultimate run you did Survivor path so maybe it is hopeless.
