After tinking around with it for about 2 hours(and learning a great deal about Deadfire's scripting engine), I figured it out. Yea, it is a bug. For anyone wondering: The n_FQ_VTC07_firemaker_escaped global variable is set whenever a firemaker in the powderhouse dies. So, in my game, I snuck into the powderhouse before Maia had even joined, and killed some of them by blowing up barrels. Wasn't spotted, and none of guards went hostile. Wasn't even on the quest, was just exploring. They didn't technically die by my hand, either, since they were killed by the barrel explosions - no rep loss or anything like that. The bug is that Maia reacts to these variables, regardless of when they were set. In this case, she somehow read my character's mind that he had been in the powderhouse prior to her joining the party. If you happen to have this happen in your game, try resetting n_FQ_VTC07_firemaker_escaped variable back to 5. Should fix it.2 points

How could anyone hope to join the Archmage Circle if they have to duel every mage in the Circle back to back? The idea sounds cool at first until you think how little sense it makes. The Archmages are meant to be the most powerful Kith in Eora; the Watcher can testify to that. So how could anyone best all of them in a row? And wouldn't that mean that the newest member of the Circle is the most powerful of them all, and that joining the Circle would get progressively more difficult? Think either Tayn or Llengrath said that most hopefuls don't survive the process. Well if they're duels to the death, there wouldn't be a circle. Just a dude/dudette standing on a heap of dead archmages.1 point

I stopped at the Love's truck stop in JacksonTennessee for my 10 hour break and discovered there's a shack across the street that sells BBQ. Pretty dang good, reasonably priced too.1 point

Yeah, my father in law died about a year and a half ago. All death is inevitable and tragic, but your experience was far worse in the suddenness and queerness of it. I know some people are offended by prayer, but I ask the Lord of wholeness and healing to look down on you and family with mercy. I ask that your father find repose in His arms. If my prayers give offense, I beg pardon and ask only that you receive them as genuine good will. God bless you, teknoman2. I've been there, brother, and it is awful.1 point

If it were feasible, they probably should. It would have a detrimental impact on China, to be sure. I've made too many walls of text and the dynamics of immigration are truly complex. Even a long winded rant would do little more than confuse the issue, but I would suggest that the people who most yearn for greater freedom in Hong Kong are a great asset to China. As for you, BruceVC, good to see this person to whom I've been compared. The jig is up, though, brother. We both know that we are, in fact, the same person, born from the same Russian bot.1 point

thanks it was such an absurd way to die that even i that saw it still can't believe it happened like that. and from Monday me and my brother will have to deal with a huge amount of paperwork1 point

I just finished Fire emblem Birthright and it was okay. There was a really stupid story moment near the end that almost made me want to quit but other than that it was enjoyable. I've already played a couple of missions in the Conquest route I'm enjoying it a lot more. In Birthright most of the objectives boiled down to defeat all the enemies in the area but in Conquest there are a lot more varied objectives.1 point

Other thoughts: I laughed out loud when I saw GD's paragraphs statement. I took it to heart. I'm Russian bot... and quite likely Bruce as well. Listen, I can say with utmost honesty that I post under no other name on this board, but let's say I am an alt. So, where does that leave us? Here are some rules I think people should follow: 1. Change your name, but not your convictions. In a world of ideas, my name doesn't really matter much. This is an electronic forum. My words matter inasmuch as they detail my thoughts. My name shouldn't be an issue. 2. Don't use the account to attack users, especially as some sort of vendetta. If you get the chance to *try* to reinvent yourself, give everyone else to get the chance to be rediscovered by your newly adopted persona. If you think I'm Bruce, you can hold it against me. I don't know what he might have done. I'm betting, if he is a troll, he's a sweet ol' troll who was just livin' the troll life. I get the feeling I'd be fond of this Bruce. However, rest assured, if he did not evince the same political opinions or convictions, I am not he. Why address this at all? Because I enjoy a little political discussion every now and then. I want to hear what folks have to say. ...And while I've been welcomed with a little more warmth before, I have a certain place in my heart for Obsidian that I've held since I used to go every now and then to this board hosted by a different game developer years ago. I'm interested in what people have to say. I would think, if I'm in an under-represented minority of thought regarding the president, people who want to understand the 'other side' might actually find my input useful. Just so I don't turn into a real troll. Just PM me and we can troll talk there. In fact, I'll even tell you my real life name, but I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that. I've already proved my troll powers even to be discussing this.1 point

EDIT: I edited people to trolls in Hurlshot's post. I was just being silly, but I don't want anyone to think I did it trying to pretend he actually said troll. Hell, I don't know that he thinks I *am* one. Still, I've seen people get pretty angry on boards like this and so I don't *really* want to end up trawling folks. I'm getting subtext that I'm a new breed of troll? :rueful grin: I say with all honesty, I have been entirely honest about my views in this discussion. ...But I *do* have two characteristics of trolls: 1. I have a thick skin, which is the only way trolls can survive without going crazy. On the other hand, they often pretend to be angry or hurt, but it becomes clear they're not. 2. I'm trying to elicit a response. To be fair, if that makes me a troll, that makes anyone who tries to strike up a conversation a troll. 3. Something else? I don't know. Summation: I'm probably a troll, but a very patient and friendly one! I'll even buy everyone a round of brew just to prove no hard feelings!1 point

Yikes! Sorry for the absence everyone! Sorry for the issues you've been having. Our web programmer was working to get the login time fixed and has officially submitted and integrated the fix. Anyone frequenting the forums or any of the other Obsidian sites shouldn't have to log in again so long as they return within 5 days of the last page they've visited. Anyone coming back after a 5 day hiatus will have to log back in, but that should be way better than the 24 hour window that wasn't updating prior. In regards to BBCode, unfortunately I don't believe Invision supports this feature anymore and are taking a WYSIWYG approach going forward. As a person who admittedly doesn't know much about BBCode, it seems that it is considered a bit of an older technology that more and more places are supporting less. I grabbed a forum thread from their site as I was looking into why this isn't an option for us anymore. If interested you can find that here. Lastly, edits. It looks like the timer on that is set to 7 days which would likely be enough time for most posts, but you make a solid case for polls and lists. The mods have been giving special editing capability to those that request it and have proven to be trustworthy of the capability (not trolls). Because I have interacted with Boeroer and AndreaColumbo a lot in the past, they have been granted this ability. Should someone be looking to make a list or a poll and need this ability in the future, feel free to reach out to me or a moderator about this and they will look into it for you. I think that covers the major points of concern. Sorry again for my absence. If you notice myself or any mods not responding promptly, please feel free to DM me as the notifications for those don't get drowned out by the flood of notifications I get from forum thread posts. Should these issues or any others remain, definitely let me know and I'll have it looked into as soon as possible Thanks again for keeping us appraised of these issues and for your patience!1 point

A bit of that as well, but I guess the somewhat lighter tone wasn't that much of a repellent. I suspect that the lighter tone (not goofy, but lighter than PoE) was established because of feedback from PoE and because the D:OS games have it and they were/are a big success. Again, no quote on or proof for that. Anyway - I presume what @kanisatha meant - and what I mean - is that many "hardcore" CRPG players prefer a "Lord of the Rings" setting over a "Pirates of the Carribean" setting. I use those books/movies because they show a much bigger picture than I could paint just with a few words. In PoE we also had a post-medieval, renaissance-ish world in the background, but it wasn't very obvious because the game took place in the Dyrwood... which is, culturally speaking, very different and fairly "behind" compared to some of the more advanced nations (Old Vaillia, Rauatai and so on). Basically in PoE it's just the guns that remind you of it. That and some rare Vaillian haute couture... The rest is gritty, quite dark, kind of backwards and medieval: the architecture, the common people, the items - even the tone is dark like the dark times (besides Edér, Hiravias, Zahua and Aloth sometimes). I mean Durance alone puts the whole setting back for at least a hundred years for the player. In Deadfire all that stuff (overall presentation, architecture, clothing, even the weather) is obviously fitting the more "modern" and light setting of Pirates! (Arrrr!). There are some cool things mixed in to loosen it up, but you can't know that by simply looking at screenies and stuff at the storefront. So - if you are not into that then you might be put off even before purchasing it. You can immediately see from screenshots and videos about the game what the setting is. This may influence your decision to give it a try. Lots of gamers really have to think about on what they want to spend their money. Lots of them are young and don't earn their own money - and if they do then it's probably not enough that they just can spend 40-50 bucks just to see if the game is nice despite that non-preferred setting. I would argue that if there are second thougths about the overall setting then that's bad for such game (which is not cheap compared to many others you might want to try). That's just my highly subjective and speculative theory though.1 point

Josh said in his post mortem that adding TB mode was like nothing compared to the ship combat system and full voice over. Maybe also because some efforts were already made to introduce turn based mode since PoE1. Maybe because it was easier (technically) than we think it was. Iirc ship combat wasn't explicitly mentioned in the original fig campaign nor was a stretch goal. No idea why somebody would be so adamant and insist on its implementation then.1 point

I thoroughly enjoyed both PoE and Deadfire. I certainly hope we haven't seen the last of that IP. It was a RPG for RPG fans. A love letter to days and games gone by. Even if something like that does not have a future it was well worth the time and money spent.1 point

Skyrim like Pillars game wouldn't be a Pillars game though, it'd be Elder Scroll game <_<1 point

If Deadfire didn't have so many shallow systems and insane bugs I'd agree with you. Imagine a game like Mass Effect 2 being released and the import completely not working and the final boss becoming invisible and unfightable. shalow systems and then compare it to ME 2 ... ok I guess renegade or saint response leading to same outcome are such a peak of compexness xD1 point

You definitely not me but its a huge compliment to think you and I are the same, you know the old adage " great minds think alike " and all that Sometimes people have assumed I use different accounts to make the same point but as I have explained I dont need to have different accounts because my general viewpoint and sentiment is based on historical precedent and what I see works and leads to a better quality of life....in other words Western style Democracies work, are sustainable and offer the best quality of life overall to there citizens compared to other governments like the autocratic failures of Russia I have to be honest I haven't read your previous posts so I am not sure what you ideologically believe but one thing we both know is we not the same person0 points

today was my father's funeral. healthiest adult human in town and died in the most unlikely way. he tried to calm down one of his 4 sheep that was a bit agitated, it tried to run off and pushed him, so he fell at a bad angle and broke his neck... and to think the ground was made of soft dirt and grass which makes it even more unlikely to get an injury like that but somehow he beat the odds. i was there when it happened, called an ambulance that arrived in less than 10 minutes but by that time he was gone. they kept trying to revive him in the hospital for about 30 minutes but to no avail. at the time they were not aware that his neck broke (meaning he was dead on the spot with no chance to be saved), we learned that the next day after the autopsy. and of course i had to go find and consult a lawyer because there is a chance some crazy animal rights group will try to sue my dead father since an animal was involved. fortunately, the lawyer said that such a case will be dismissed by default so there are no worries on that end at least.0 points
