Azdeus Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 So a while back, there was a discussion on waiting times for healthcare here, don't remember what thread. I've got a visit for a trivial nuisance (Nothing life threatening or such) in 26 weeks. Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Hurlshort Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I registered for a half Ironman in September, so now it's time to get serious.
Syraxis Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I emailed a recruiter for a company that I interviewed with a couple weeks ago (that a close IRL friend works at). Well did I make the cut or not?! Also it's been quite a while since I posted here, how're you all doing?

Gfted1 Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Holy moley, half a year wait to see a doctor (probably because its trivial)? But that's just for the free service, right? You can pay up and jump the line if you want to? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Azdeus Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 You sort of can. We're "guaranteed" to get to meet specialists within 90 days at most. If that is not possible we're offered to go to a different district where they might have shorter waiting times, and they are supposed to pick up the extra costs. Don't know the exact details about that though, I don't have enough time to travel since I don't want to miss work. Theoretically you can pony up to visit a private doctor though. But when I looked up one for fun, the price was something silly like 300$/hour. Hurlshort Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I went and saw Book of Mormon with my wife. It was hilarious.
Lexx Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Hilarious in a good or hilarious in a bad way? "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
Hurlshort Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Hilarious in a good or hilarious in a bad way? Both? It was exactly what you would expect, but also way better than it has any right to be.

The time limits on treatment is different for different conditions obviously and you are free to find a private operator if you don't want to wait. You wait because doing so is free. If you have cancer or something else with a time factor, it's different. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

Private doctors don't have the equipment that hospitals do, they do exams and minor things. Gorgon Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 As far as I can remember Denmark has a limit on the commencement of cancer treatment of one month. Meaning if you have not been given treatment one month after your diagnosis the hospital is heavily penalized, and you would be sent to Germany or anywhere else with capacity. The news loves to bring up that our cancer treatment success rate is the worst in Scandinavia. Say you need back surgery for pain relief though, yes you could be on the list for years. They want people who are well off to give up on the list and pony up for the treatment themselves I guess. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

LadyCrimson Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Today I'm lying on the couch listening to music at loud volumes. I might motivate to pick up a controller and add gaming to that mix. Might being the operative word. Sometimes you just/only want to groove. “Things are as they are. Hurlshort Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Today I am simulating a sprint Triathlon. I'll be jumping in the pool to swim 1200 meters in my new wetsuit, then jumping on the bike for 15 miles, and then a short 5 mile run to finish it off. My target time is as close to 2 hours as possible. Also a good chance to see what kind of pit crew my wife and kids will be. Oh and it is 50 degrees out, so hopefully I don't freeze.
Hurlshort Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Finished in 2:07. I felt pretty good. My muscles are a bit sore, as expected, but I think the big surprise was the upset stomach. My wife said something about lactic acid building up. The swim was fast, the bike was a grind, and the run was surprisingly nice. My knee was screaming at me during the bike and I expected it to be an issue, but it felt fine once I started pounding the pavement. Hopefully I can improve on that for the race in a couple months. My pit crew was a bit of a mess. My wife was great, but the kids were less enthused. Logan asked me to play hockey afterward. 2

Calax Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Work sucks, have survived the winter. Am unsure of what exactly I should be doing but am considering buying a house. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.

Calax Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Work sucks, have survived the winter. Am unsure of what exactly I should be doing but am considering buying a house. Is it better than your last position at least? And it HAS to be better than the big M steakhouse. Yes and no. My office operates with more than 1 million in revenue a year, I'm da boss now instead of the sub boss. Thing is, in this region at least, it's basically expected that I'm going to be "first in, last out" of sorts at the office, meaning 11 hour days 5 days a week, and an expectation of my weekend being at least somewhat work time so that I can make sure I'm ahead. To be fair, I'm doing something right because the metrics are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were, but I ended up calling my boss and saying "**** this ****, move me, I need less hours" and started getting a bit of slack for what I have to do. McD's sucked, sure. Partly it was the fact the job is designed around the stupidest person being able to perform any task, but at the same time, you didn't have a customer scoffing at you and saying "Well, I requested a nugget, if you don't have nuggets right now, you'll give me a premium chicken burger for the same cost!" (Seriously, the entire city is overbooked and people can still make rentals on accident... "You don't have my compact? That Tahoe is sitting right there! Give it to me!"). Realistically the biggest thing for me is that I need to get myself a balance between work and life, and have more than just my Cat to keep my company. But it's daunting to try to get out when I am so slovenly I don't want to move once I get home. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.

Syraxis Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 (edited) I've been reading up on Node.JS lately, about to start a personal project with it as the server side architecture. Should be fun. I'm going to build up more experience and start job hunting for web development opportunities. Edited February 24, 2018 by Syraxis 1
