Agiel Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Something cool that showed up on Kickstarter. Probably among the most ambitious projects I've seen yet: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1964463742/the-mandate Looks like the closest thing to a Rogue Trader game in 3D I've ever seen. Check it out. 4 Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.” -Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>> Quote "The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete." -Rod Serling
melkathi Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Our Darker Purpose just downloaded the latest beta build. But back to bed before trying it or else I'll never get any sleep. Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Check it out. I'm looking, I love the sound of the very little I've read so far, but 500k$? For what they call a AAA-rpg... I'm not entirely convinced to say the least. But I wants its..! Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Zoraptor Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Sounds interesting- very interesting- despite it being online only. I'd need more information before committing any cash though, hopefully there will be some interviews and the like to clarify one or two issues I have.

I'm not entirely convinced to say the least. But I wants its..! In truth, I'm as skeptical as you are in spite of the project touching on a lot of things that strike my fancy. If a finished product were to come out of this, I would imagine it to be comparable in scope and production values as the X-COM remake, and even for that $500,000 seems to be an absurdly optimistic estimate (then again, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Eternity sort of start with that estimate as the bare minimum to be made?) 1 Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. Yeah, that sounds about right, though their pitch seems to paint it much, much bigger than that. I thought Eternity had a minimum of 1.1M$? That would sound like a more reasonable estimate, Shadowrun Returns asked for similar base amounts, and while it seems a good game and such, the scope of that game is much smaller than what Perihelion is setting out to do and they eventually got nearly 5 times the asked amount. And speaking of Perihelion, was'nt there a company with that name way back? There is something about that name that is really familiar, besides the astronomical association. And they did'nt take this golden opportunity to make a game called Star Tsars. :< 1 Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Keyrock Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I also am quite skeptical of this. Space Tsars sounds great, but it also sounds insanely ambitious, even were it not on a highly restrained budget, but for 500k? Best of luck to them, I hope they can pull it off. BruceVC Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 http://www.pcgamesn.com/15-best-rpgs-pc So what do you guys think about this list of the top 15 RPG of all time, its not bad and seems reasonable? Bester Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 In this list, Witcher is an rpg. Are you kidding me? IE Mod for Pillars of Eternity: link

They guy really likes Obsidian I agree, its very similar to what I would rate as top 15 RPG In this list, Witcher is an rpg. Are you kidding me? Yes its a bit of an enigma that one, except for the fact almost the entire gaming community considers The Witcher series an RPG with one or two people who exist on the periphery of this community disputing this... people like ...you 2 "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. sorophx Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Torchlight II, Anachronox, Shadowrun Returns... yeah Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. And having been educated solely by mkreku in this respect I am convinced that Finland essentially IS the wh40k universe.
Lexx Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I personally don't consider Torment to be an rpg, as I feel it is more an adventure. But that doesn't really matter anyway. Plus, "top x games" lists are usually a huge pile of shait, only existing to spawn nerd rage and website clicks. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
Nonek Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Not one Ultima, no Betrayal at Krondor, no gold box game, not even EOB 2 or Pool of Radiance? I'm sorry internet list, I really didn't wish to do this but i'm afraid that I will have to shake my head and tut. There serves you right. 1 Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!
melkathi Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Torchlight II, Anachronox, Shadowrun Returns... yeah With Torchlight 2 I thought "Well at least they like a game I like" Anachronox I thought "I got that on GOG and need to play it eventually" Shadowrun Returns I thought "Well now you are just trolling" @BruceVC regarding the lack of Gothic in that list. Piranha Bytes is/ a German developer. That site is british. British gaming journalists have a very strong bias against german games from what I have noticed. You might just as well ask them to compare Torchlight with Sacred 1 Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).
