Rosbjerg Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Heh, yeah. I've checked for mods already as well, but despite the tools - that I remember to be pretty good, there was a lot hype about it back in the days - there seems to be nothing except some maps. Interesting observation which I'd echo. I wonder if it was simply that anyone smart enough to code a mod got turned off long before they wanted to make a mod? Most likely the revelant tools were never released or were inadequate, thus making it too time consuming to alter the game beyond making maps with the standard editor.. Fortune favors the bald.
greylord Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Why does the sound of Farcry 2 (from what you guys stated in this thread) remind me of some actual Real locations in Africa (not places I'd want to be in...just so you know).
Orchomene Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I'm playing Winter Voices ep. 4. It keeps on captivating me. A graceful story with some good music. Nothing exceptionnal, but refreshing.
Orogun01 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Why does the sound of Farcry 2 (from what you guys stated in this thread) remind me of some actual Real locations in Africa (not places I'd want to be in...just so you know). If only, the landscape feels 100% like Africa. The situation however feels like a game afraid of being too graphic, which is part of the reality of Africa. Anyways just finished Fable 3, and i regret every minute that went into that game. The beginnings where rather lackluster, I don't get the need for every game these days to be a social hub for random strangers to pretend. Every second I kept playing on the hopes that it would get better, it didn't. Not even the screams of villagers running away in fear were able to soothe my boredom. Plus the second part of the games it's even more horrible, took every bit of fun that the first one had and changed the mood completely. They destroyed everything that made Fable 1 fun and called it a game. Not everything it's bad though, solid voice acting, the weapon morphing feature it's rather intricate, got a few laughs (although the real life references can get tired; a bailout really? ) I don't see these series going anywhere but back to the beginning, if they have sense. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
trulez Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) Finished The Witcher 2. I have a bit of mixed feelings about the game now that I've gone through it. My review of the game: PROLOGUE I'd rate the prologue at 6/10, it was really horrible at teaching players new to the Witcher series how to play the damn game. The review by Escapist nailed it in their article. CHAPTER 1 I thought this was the best part of the game, it felt awe inspiring at times, I absolutely loved the idyllic small town vibes Flotsam gave me when I first arrived and got to explore it. The only negative remark I have is that the forest wasn't deadly at all even though you've lead to believe it is. I actually avoided going in to the woods until I had completed all other quests because I thought I couldn't enter it without being killed by Scoia'tael. I'd rate this part of the game 9/10, and the only part that would be superior to DA2. CHAPTER 2 (Vergen/Scoia'tel) When I first entered the dwarven city it did not feel as great as Flotsam. Exploring it was more frustrating due to the maze like layout, and the side quests were not as interesting. The whole death spell thing that prevented movement between the opposing factions was just laughable. You could actually take two different routes to the ship wreck and the only reason you couldn't reach it from the other side was a 10' patch of smoke. The main quest left me feeling pretty abused, it seemed like EVERYONE tried to play me, and none of the choices I tried to make mattered so I felt used like a cheap whore. I'd rate this part of the game 7/10. CHAPTER 3 I so wished for a grand finale, I was spent after dragging my character through the mud that was Chaper 2. The last chapter was tedious and not fun at all, I felt I was forced to play it through just to have some closure to the 20+ hours I spent with the game. When the writers tried to tie all the loose ends together it really underlined just how bad their efforts were, I felt more and more like a passenger on a fail train headed to disaster. None of the choices I made seemed to matter at all and I wasn't given hint/chance to pick up on any of the backstabbing until the very end. I'm still not sure if I know the truth about all the events that unfolded. I'd rate this part of the game 6/10. Summary: + Flotsam + Stunning Graphics + Soundscape + Interesting Fight Mechanics + Voice Acting - Chapter 2 & 3 - Inability To Shape the Story - Too Much Backstabbing - Repetetive Combat - Lackluster Ending Now I'm playing Fallout 1, bought it from GOG and works like a charm even on Win7x64. Orchomene Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 - Inability To Shape the Story I can't disagree more and can not even understand how someone that played the game can say that. It's one of the major positive points of this game to have choices that have effects on the story and to have paths that are so different. I've played two times and chapter 2 and 3 are very different in both playthrough. Of course, another playthrough would be closer to one of the two first, but it's at least better than games like DA or ME. By a large margin. Outside of sandbox rpgs, only AP delivers more capacity to shape the story in last five years games.

I enjoyed it overall, but it could've been so much better. I really liked the Industrial Revolution setting; they could've even used it to explain why there were only a handful of heroes left, barely any magic left, not to mention most of Fable 1's monsters decimated. Instead, most just feels streamlined to the max. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Tale Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff you, GoG. I just purchased the Broken Sword trilogy (even though I already own those games spread around different platforms), The Journeyman Project 2, Tex Avery 1+2, Tex Avery Under a Killing Moon, Realms of the Haunting, and The Last Express. Edit: Wait a second, didn't I have Runaway 2 I needed to complete. Edited June 1, 2011 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Deraldin Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Some time in the past couple days I hit level 89 in Progress Quest which bumped me up in the rankings. 53 out of 101728
Lexx Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) Damn, why the hell I am still playing FarCry 2. I don't know. It's ****ing boring, but the landscape is so pretty. Plus, now my gameworld has changed too, which I didn't expected. Now I am in some much more wide and open up deserty landscape, that looks a lot better than the first map and is also somewhat bigger in general size. There also has been a small up in the story missions-- You still have to travel a god damn long way to your target, but because of whatever reason, the mission gameplay wasn't "go to x, shot y" or "go to x, get item y" anymore. Now I am interested to see how long that will hold on. Edited June 2, 2011 by Lexx "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."

Its so easy, and so mindless but somehow relaxing and none engaging that you can even play with an extreme hangover. I came up with Crate 3.0 technology. Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.Down and out on the Solomani RimNow the Spinward Marches don't look so GRIM!

I've now played LA Noire in both a food poisoning and a hangover, and I can confirm that it's also pretty good for that kind of stuff. I'd still wait for an "ultimate" of this one, this is one game that's going to have a lot of removed stuff slowly dribbled back in. You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Flouride Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Got bit bored of L.A Noire and I'm now playing Frozen Synapse. Hate the living, love the dead.
Labadal Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) Playing Outland on PS3. I'm really enjoying the game so far. Nice visual design and solid gameplay, plus I can almost swear it runs at a consistent 60fps. It plays like a Castlevania game, add in some Ikaruga mechanics and you've got Outland. Oh and smooth *** controls. This was my most anticipated game for PSN and it hasn't let me down so far. Edit: Also played some Streets of Rage 2. Love grabbing the head of an enemy and repeatedly punish him with knees to the face. Edited June 2, 2011 by Labadal
Starwars Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Borrowed Silent Hill: Shattered Memories from a memory. Wow, how the mighty have fallen.... Terrible game. The franchise truly should've been buried after Silent Hill 2 (well, 3 was pretty fun even though they returned the more goofy storylines of the first game). SadExchange Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Right now, spending my time between The Witcher 2 and also Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale. Having a good time with both for what they're worth.
trulez Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Finished Fallout 1, it was better than I remembered. Though the bad rep it got was due to bugs IIRC, so I guess it only natural it's better now with all the official and unofficial fixes. Now playing Fallout 2. For a moment after finishing the first Fallout I had a feeling "this is even better than F2" but within 5 minutes of playing Fallout 2 the feeling quickly dissipated.
Deraldin Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Got bit bored of L.A Noire and I'm now playing Frozen Synapse. Huzzah! Someone else who is playing this awesome game! Have you played the single player campaign or are you sticking mostly with the multi?
Enoch Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Now playing Fallout 2. For a moment after finishing the first Fallout I had a feeling "this is even better than F2" but within 5 minutes of playing Fallout 2 the feeling quickly dissipated. I'm just going to assume you meant "within 5 minutes of getting to Klamath in Fallout 2." I simply cannot believe that anybody has ever had any measurable amount of fun playing through the Temple of Trials.

CoM_Solaufein Posted June 4, 2011 Author Posted June 4, 2011 Still playing Fallout 1. I like blasting away the townies for a bit and then I hit reload and play the game like a hero character. Walsingham Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Played through Op Flashpoint, Dragon Rising. I know it's less than full price, but it's absolutely tiny. Love the gameplay, mostly. Should I buy the other one, anyone? You put up with the defective AI and incredibly limited scope ? And no, don't bother with the "sequel". Why has elegance found so little following? trulez Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) Finished Fallout 2, did every quest possible and played a naive goody two-shoes who would help anyone who dared to ask. Found it odd that I could acquire Advanced Power Armor (Navarro) before regular Power Armor (Brotherhood of Steel), maybe that's because I did Military Base only after finishing everything in San Fran. Now playing Max Payne, the original. Bought it from Steam along with the sequel. Edited June 7, 2011 by trulez
