Jaesun
Well, I am having a blast with the game. My main problem is that I just can't keep focus on the main quest and therefore I end up ahead in the chain and am forced to reload because I keep breaking other quests I haven't even found yet. Can you clarify this a bit further? Are you sure it is broken or perhaps it's more of a faction alignment mechanic. Lexx
even so, the hacking minigame in this version of Fallout is a lot better than Mass Effect's 1 and 2 and Alpha Protocol hacking minigames combined. (also, doesn't high science let you hack terminals automatically?) Not for me. I don't remember how it was in Mass Effect, but I found the hacking in Alpha Protocol pretty easy once I figured out how it works. Especially because the game became easier, the higher your hacking skill was. To me it feels like my science skill in Fallout 3 / New Vegas only allows me to do the minigame and nothing more. Always when I see a "very hard" terminal in Fo3 / NV, I just think "bleeehh..." - Fun is something else. /Edit: Here it is, my first New Vegas mod. A ninja-fix for the combat armor reinforced and one that changes the gun runner guards armors to the reinforced mk1. Both are optional and not in one file. Mirage
By this I mean, will I see something that reads "INT 8/9"? in red? I've had that happen to me (although the numbers were 6/7). Huh. I was hoping for more SPECIAL influence during the conversations. Oh well, game's still fun. I get the skill ones (speech, etc) all the time but the SPECIAL ones not as often. Maybe the further you get into the game, or maybe some faction or quest choices have more than others. The text is normal color but colors red when you hover the mouse over the sentence option. Yeah, the skill ones pop up pretty regularly, but the only special stat that I've seen influence conversations is INT, and even then that only popped up once in a awhile. Sorry if someone else has answered this but, has anyone played with low INT are there are a lot of dialog options for that? Also, btw the companions commenting on youir surroundings is a nice touch, even though it's not revolutionary. That's what I like about NV all the extra little details. Thorton_AP
Int pops up most frequently (it was the biggest impact in FO1/2 as well), but I have seen Perception, Charisma, and I think even 1 Agility in there as well.

Yep, Int does seem to pop up the most frequently. Can you give me an example of the CHA instance? hell, I've had a PER/INT combined check good thing both were 7+ Which NPC did you talk to? (also, quest). Heck, I'm thinking of purchasing the guide just to see how deeply your stats effect convos (and, well, a bunch of other stuff too). sorophx
Which NPC did you talk to? (also, quest). It's the last quest for the Camp McCarran's quartermaster, sergeant whatever. he asks you to bring some meds to his contact with Mr. House, named Price. when you show up at the pawn shop, there's an NCR intelligence officer waiting for you, in order to expose him right away, you need both INT and PER at 7 I'm suddenly having serious issues with my framerate. wonder if it's hardware overheating or an issue with the game itself Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. Raithe
Apparently Sneak also comes into a check if you want to try hiding some "small guns/weapons" when you go in the Casino's... And yeah, the moment I walk in either the Atomic Bar/Brothel or the main Casino rooms.. I suddenly get moments of judder.. smooth as anything outside those..but within those it gets all temperamental. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum." sorophx
looks like the anti-materiel rifle is this game's Bozar, which makes sense, unlike a scoped .50 cal weapon that only shoots in long bursts. only problem: I can't find enough .50 rounds, they;re very rare... I'll save it for the Black Mountain super mutant masters fest. Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. I'll have to check those missions out. Also, WUE mentioned beyond the beef. I'm wondering if that's the only situation where karma effects whether or not certain quest options are available to you. @ I've known about Sneak letting you keep your holdout weapons for quite awhile, nice option. Anyway, since downloading that update, I've had two instances where the games completely freezes and I have to re-start. Been fine since then, I guess. Nepenthe
So, does anyone know for sure if SPECIAL stat checks will show up in dialog?, Specifically will they show up in red if you don't meet them? I've only encountered one, but now I'm wondering if I accidentally mis-read it since I was sitting so far away, as I have not seen any since then. By this I mean, will I see something that reads "INT 8/9"? in red? Also, how regular do the low INT dialogs show up if you decrease that stat appropriately? I saw a Luck 5/7, but pretty sure it wasn't in red. Apart from that, enjoying the game quite a bit. Have had two lockups during the day on the PS3 (both right after entering new areas), but no quest-related bugs. The latter is fairly impressive, considering how hard the game branches. Hoping my luck will hold. Not sure if my inability to pick up the Q-35 is a bug or if I'm just not supposed to be able to pick it up from the red force field. Anyway, my personal respects to everybody involved with the game, excellent work! The only Fallout game that I've played before this one was 3, towards which I was apathic at best, and I've been enjoying it quite a bit so far. My impressions might be colored by the fact that I'm off solid foods and staying at home, sulking, though. You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Tagaziel
I'd be all over this game if it allowed me to play it for more than five minutes. From what I can glimpse, it's well designed, with good characters, interesting stories, factions etc., plus, it has a lot of great content and recurring elements from the previous two games in the series (not counting the three spin-offs). I was especially pleased to see the NCR camp in Primm, with a soldier from the Hub and the classic desert theme from Fo1 in the background. I wish I could actually play it without paranoidally having to quicksave every 15 seconds for fear that entering the PIP-Boy will cause it to crash and burn. For anyone interested in helping me with this problem, the symptoms are as such: in full screen, after a random amount of time (can be 30 seconds, can be 5 minutes) the display will suddenly freeze, while the game continues to work for about 20 seconds (judging by the sound effects) and then either crashes with an error message (standard Windows fare) or lock up the system forcing a reboot. In windowed mode, it simply crashes to desktop without so much as an explanation nor any discernible pattern - it can be opening the PIP-Boy, it can be shooting a powder ganger or even simply walking through the desert. I want to play this game, I really do. But apparently, it doesn't want to be played. Tagaziel
Sounds like a classic driver issue, tbh. Everything up to date on that front, and i dont just mean the obvious display stuff, but audio etc? GPU drivers are the latest ones 260.89 for my GeForce 7900 GS (don't laugh, it made AC2 and ME2 work fluidly at high settings not to mention Clear Sky), drive is pretty unfragmented and lots of free space, no hardware conflicts I'm aware of. I'm not sure about the sound card, though - although I have a Sound Blaster Audigy installed, the system appears to be not recognizing it when I try to install new drivers, saying that it doesn't see anything. DxDiag begs to differ and displays the correct card... although it used the P17 driver from 2005, even though I used a 2006 (IIRC) driver install CD. Bottom line, should I just rip out the Audigy and rely on the mobo for sound? Or is there a clever workaround for this I'm not aware of (wouldn't be the first time)? Lexx
Hm the sound stuff didn't worked? My game always crashed because of my Aureon 5.1 Fun Wave sound card. And I know at least one other person who has exactly the same sound card, which made exactly the same crashs on his computer. It is like "as soon as x sound sources are in the game, go rampage and produce a bluescreen". "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die." LadyCrimson
Personally Experienced Tech Notes: The text/sound notification delays have stopped. Unfortunately I'm not sure if it was because of the patches DL'd from Steam or because I turned off the ffdshow in K-Lite Codec, since I did them both around the same time. Not in the mood to test the ffdshow again right now. Haven't had another random crash since I did both of those things, either. “Things are as they are. HoonDing
My games experiences a hiccough every time I exit a dialogue window or a barter screen. Very annoying. I'm guessing it's the same sound problem that was present with FO3. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Starwars
Gotta say, this game just keeps on growing. While I fear they may be a number of "filler-quests", the game really feels packed with content. Getting close to New Vegas was a pretty awesome thing on its own, they way you start seeing more and more ruined houses just outside. It really changes the atmosphere around from the desert wastelands outside. Then I just made it into Freeside which really surpassed my expectations of how they'd succeed in creating the more urban areas. The sound-design here does a lot for the atmosphere. It really feels like some of the slummier areas we could see in Fallout 2. No big bugs yet for me. Might be a quest that's stuck in Camp Golf. I'm supposed to teach some troopers on handling guns but can't seem to figure out how to progress it. The NPC the quest arrow points to just stands there and spouts one-liners.
