I'm Commander Shepard and this is also my favorite thread on Obsidian

I think there's a clear difference between Miranda and Tali. Tali is clearly the "weak, vulnerable" LI, while in Miranda's case it's more an attraction of equals... and as she states, her admiration of Shepard is based on the fact that he comes from basically very basic circumstances (I mean, being a military brat is the "best" option for his backgrounds) and yet is a very capable individual. Not sure if I'm succeeding in sending my point across, but I think that Miranda's a lot more successful than, say Tali - just because there's basically a single sentence premise the character is based around, and Miranda has a bit more layers. *shrug*
Heh, that's the cool thing about these discussions: you get to consider viewpoints that are completely opposed to yours, based on details you may have missed or interpreted differently.

Actually, for me it was the other way around -- Tali I saw as the confident type: she has her own responsibilities that she doesn't forfeit, and doesn't jump at the first chance to join up. She's willing to get the shaft to preserve something that's important to her people, and asks for Shepard's aid without displaying insecurities or issues. I haven't explored her romance, but from what I've seen, it's the most free of Shep-worship garbage, and she even makes a somewhat sarcastic remark precisely on this.

On the other hand, Miranda constantly keeps her bitch-shield up to prevent people from spotting and exploiting her massive self-esteem issues, something that has nothing to do with how capable she really is, but rather how vulnerable and in dire need of (Shepard's) reassurance that she's not devoid of personal merit and merely a product of her pop's dough. But... at least she doesn't

cry when Shep sticks it in.

:)

I think Ashley represented (or at least tried to represent) the type you are kind of "hoping for" here in ME1... Right? Or does the poetry thing wreck her even on a conceptual level? :)
I had completely forgotten about Ashley. Yeah, that's the kind of woman I was thinking about. And no, the poetry stuff only bothered me because of the unnatural sudden change of mood in the conversations... but not nearly as much as her telling me what a devout Christian she was. I've had a few awkward moments like that IRL, so that's probably a good thing about Ash, even if it made my skin crawl at the time. And she does have a real mean streak, too.

"Not today, friend." *pew pew pew* :(

- When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.

I found Tali to be one of the biggest Shepard worshipers in the game. "I miss Shepard." "If only Shepard were here..." "You don't know how much what you said means to me.." etc

Yeah, this is what I was thinking of, too.

I quite liked Ashley, too. I'm hoping they manage to do something worthwhile with the ME1/2 NPCs in ME3 (or some expansion).

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

Tali's Shepard-worship does make some sense-- her whole life is a series of difficult situations she has gotten herself into, followed by Shepard bailing her out:

She gets in trouble with Fist on the Citadel; Shep rescues her. She needs to find something great for her pilgrimage; Shep delivers. She goes looking for the missing Quarian on Freedom's Progress; her team gets cut down and Shep finishes the job. She goes off to WeirdSunlightWorld, loses most of her escort and gets trapped by Geth; Shep gets her out. Her dad's experiments go nuts and the Admiralty wants to blame her; Shep fixes it.

She tries to assert her independence over the first half of ME2 (mostly because of doubts about Cerberus), but she keeps falling into trouble that only Shepard can get her out of. It's hardly surprising that she views Shep with respect-bordering-on-awe.

One of the tiring things in ME that was absent in DA was the incredible inflation of the protagonist's role. Shepard's set up to be basically unstoppable, while the Grey Warden, no matter what he/she does, is never given the appearance of being outside the influence of politics.

Looks more fun than the Mako, that's for sure. Didn't notice any indicators for shields or ammo. Unlimited?

I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God.

So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me?

Nothing personal. It's just revenge.

At least she didn't call Shepard a god.

I really wish there were a Renegade interrupt on Freedom's Progress.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

Huh? The game play looks basically the same. Which is a good thing. Justn proves that it was silly of BIO to take the mako out if theyw ere just going to put mako 2.0 into the game. L0L

That's very different from Mako combat. Mako combat was all about engaging the enemy at extreme range, so that you could abuse the fact that Mako shells fired at lightspeed, while all opponent weapons were slow and easily dodgeable. Although that clip doesn't give one a sense of the range of the Hammerhead's cannon, your shots now take time to reach their targets, and both your shots and the enemies have a limited tracking function (not unlike the base game's rocket launcher), eliminating the old "fire, then roll backwards 10 feet" basic Mako tactic. Looks to me like the primary M.O. is to fire on enemies while maneuvering at speed to avoid their fire.

What's so different about it? And, no, Enoch's explanation doesn't cut it. It looks the same as before. Move around a lot, dodge, and shoot the enemies pew pew style. *shrug*

Although it's tough to tell from just one trailer, driving the Hammerhead appears to be much less of a chore than driving the Mako, although admittedly much of the blame for that comes from the planet surfaces you had to drive on. Will have to wait and see what it's really like. Agreed with Enoch on the combat, though, both for the Mako and what the Hammerhead appears to be.

New DLC heavy weapon.

Could we have some more, uh, regular weapons instead? There's a serious lack of variety in the SMG and heavy pistols departments.

Kinky, only needs 2 secs to charge up, plenty of time to not get shot to death. No sir, not a single enemy hit.

Disclaimer: I only played ME1 for 30 minutes on a friends xbox, of which 10 minutes was driving around in the mako

I found the mako to be absolutely horrible. Besides the oddity of trying to imagine a krogan (wrex) fitting inside it, the completely wrong physics was very offputting (not to mention the incredible boring landscapes). It was like it was stuck to the ground with a big rubber band that would pull the moonbuggy towards the surface, nevermind that the surface was the side of a cliff :(

It could have been great, but it may or may not be possible to pull off with the UT3 engine.

I'm not having much luck with heavy weapons at all. I got this M920 Cain heavy weapon, tried to use it on the Thresher Maw. It came up with "192%" in the crosshairs, and I could not figure out how to fire that thing. LMouse, nothing; RMouse, nothing. It cost me a fortune and it does... nothing. What the heck am I doing wrong?

I did kill the Maw, though. With my assault rifle. :(

You need to hold the fire button down. It takes a few seconds before it fires. And make sure you aren't standing anywhere near your target. :(

Ooooohhhh. So you have to actually hold the LMouse button down until it fires?? Wowser, thanks. I'd have never figured that out!

Just... watch your aim. You don't want to miss a shot of that thing.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

You have to hold the Lmouse button down for a couple seconds with the new arc shooter as well, but it's pretty cool. I just finished recruiting Mordin in my new game, and I only used it once, but it almost instantly wiped out a cluster of four Vorcha - only one of which was out in the open to begin with. I wish I was a little closer to them when it happened, heh, I didn't really get to see it.

You don't really want to be that close to where it hits (thats how I discovered how it worked the first time) o:)
