WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 On more important matters: http://pc.ign.com/articles/890/890260p1.html Gameplay sounds good. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Monte Carlo Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 From the IGN article, DA looks right up my street. And I don't buy the low magic thing either (notice the reference to the magic chest straight off the bat). OTOH, those hard-core RPG campaigns where you spend three years fighting small forest animals and kobolds, only to be awarded the villager's heirloom +1 dagger ain't much fun either. I could care less about graphics, the game looks like BG3 plus what the first NWN should have been.

Starwars Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Saw it. Wasn't a video designed to omg blow you away with the cool features!1!, which was nice. They just showed some general moving around, and some of the combat. It looks solid enough. The combat is hard to judge since it's hard to see all the thingies on the lowres video, but the top-down stuff looked quite nice. Graphics looks nice, but not to the point where it looks like you'll need a NASA computer to run it which is something I consider important these days. Solid but unimpressive I'd say. But again, I think that's due to how they presented the video. It was fairly limited footage, and I really like to hear more about the game. I think it can possibly be a great game. You can still watch it on Livewire, you can rewind the video to whatever time you want to watch. They didn't start it on time I think, so the times are not really accurate though. I tried to rewind it and didn't see anything until I added a buch of minutes after reading your post. Greg looks pimp. Edit: DA ogre seems to be awesome in the way that the Diablo 3 picking-up-barb-and-eating-him monster was cool. It looked quite awesome when it picked up a guy and used him as a punching bag. Purkake Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 (edited) I saw it on Livewire too. Looks more BGish than NWNish, so I think that it will be pretty good. Hopefully they will release it soon. Tale Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Does my character see a dragon? "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
aries101 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I just saw the LiveWire from IGN and I have just to say this: Wohoo: just like Homer Simpson probably would (eh-maybe not...) The gameplay felt and played just like Baldur's Gate to me. Except for one thing, though. The mage had to use a staff to get her spells working. I liked this a lot, though. I also like that wer can zoom in and out at will. The Ogre? at the top of the tower looked great, too and Greg Zeschuck did say that dragons have been confirmed... and I do think your character will get to see one... The common people in Ferelsen might not, though... Please support http://www.maternityworldwide.org/ - and save a mother giving birth to a child. Jaesun Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 The archdemon is a dragon... one of the Old Gods that were imprisoned long ago beneath the earth. The darkspawn search for them and, when the dragon is freed and awoken it rises as an archdemon. That is when a Blight begins. Which means, yes, ancient. And sleeping. So go on. Get it out of your system. I know you want to. *sigh* I kind of expected this. But, if the story is good I don't mind the whole Save the world from the sleeping evil that has awoken. Kelverin Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Looks like I have to give Bioware some more of my hard earned cash. I love the game play video and it does indeed appear to be the spiritual successor to BG J1 Visa Southern California Cleaning
Gfted1 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Yeah, they got their hooks in me too with DA. Im afeared it going to make my rig choke on the hot ashes of freeze frame performance though. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Volourn Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 "I thought he meant BG as a series. I guess the first one was kinda forced... " BG2 is better with the role-playing type stuff but it still doens't hold a candle to the enwer BIO game sin that regard. btw, This doesn't mean I hate the BGs. I love them. In fact, BG2 is my favorite BIO game not counting the entire package of NWN. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

Jaesun Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 More DA goodies, courtesy of DGaider: On Death and Dying: It's not quite KotOR where, as soon as the battle was done, any party members that went down during the fight spring up no harm, no foul. Party members that go down during combat in DA acquire one of various "injured" states that debilitate your character to a degree determined by the difficulty level. The state is stackable and persistent until the injury is properly treated. So not permanent death, no, and I know that for some that will never cut it. Fair enough. Still, the idea is that it's a consequence for losing a party member that isn't so harsh it forces a reload. The idea will be, as well, that the combat will be balanced such that losing a party member during a fight is a tough blow as it is -- but it's harder to say how that will pan out in the long run. Right. They're out for the rest of the battle, and once it's done it's assumed you deal with their immediate wounds and they get up. They then have a random injury -- like a wounded leg, yes -- that affects appropriate stats accordingly until it's treated. There are some people who will reload no matter what when handed some kind of drawback. I suspect more people will find an injury "acceptable" and move on, depending on the amount of time/effort required to treat the injury... but the point isn't to make people not reload, the point is to provide a consequence for a party member going down in combat that isn't so harsh that the player loses a party member (and a great deal of content with them) but not so soft that the player is sacrificing his party members in kamikaze fashion without effect. I like this. Some of my Youtube Classic Roland MT-32 Video Game Music videos | My Music | My Photography
