Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2: Great movies. I just don't like how the big battle with Bill ends in seconds. "Alright, I've been thinking. I can't understand how anyone can get all sentimental about thieves and murderers and make them out into heroes. I don't get Sopranos either. I don't deny they are superbly filmed and written movies but the subject matter discusts me. Sorry. Meet the Robinsons: Surprisingly funny but the pacing is way too fast. Character models are so so but the animation is great. Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer - I'm not a huge comic book guy, so I wasn't all upset over the source material, but I still felt they really missed out on a chance to make a cool movie about Silver Surfer and Galactus. It was just remarkably average, but I've seen worse comic book movies. At least it was only 90 minutes, they didn't drag anything out, and that's probably why I finished it. Reality and romanticism are very different things. I don't think the point of the movies was to romanticize the mafia, although that element wasn't completely absent of course. The feeling I got from the movie was how far a man could fall to protect his family. I liked the second movie more because it contrasts the beginnings of the Corleone family to its current ruthless state. You can tell Michael has doubts about his course of action during the conversation he has with his mother, but he maintains his course because he thinks he is the only strong one to protect the family. In the end, he destroys the very thing he's been trying to protect. In the end, as he sits, contemplating his actions while remembering his family, you can't help but feel a certain loathing mixed with pity mixed with respect. However, I was merely making a general observation on the mobster genre, since astrocreep mentioned The Sopranos as well. I prefer the second movie myself, as well. theslug Posted November 14, 2007 Share Posted November 14, 2007 The Place Promised in Our Early Days. Anime. Easily some of the highest quality artwork I have ever seen in my animu life. Some of the shots were insanely beautiful, sometimes simple, sometimes detailed, either way bad ass. But alas as with games, graphics come at a price. While I have no problem with character/story driven movies which is evidenced by my obsession with Spirited Away this movie just didn't quite strike my fancy as much as I'd like it to. Characters were nice enough but I didn't click with the plot that turns into a multiuniverse crazy dream/technology insaneness. Still a little confused from some parts within the movie. Seemed like quite a few plot holes or just side plots that never get elaborated. I mean yeah I have the attention span of a small retarded dog but I wasn't surfing the internets or anything during the movie so it was genuinely confusing or maybe it was just heavily ambiguous. The movie was tranquil and sometimes somber but a pretty chill watch. I'd only expect to be wowed by the art and not the story but: 8/10 There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. But I loved watching the aging but still handsome Nicholas Cage doing his precognition/time-based semi-Matrix-like bits. Leave the brain at the door and it's a fair entertaining time-passer.
