Summary of the expansion + general game updates coming with it shamelessly stolen from Reddit:

Quote

TL;DR: This is not a DLC. This is Cyberpunk 2.0.

  • virtually every system of the main game has been changed and/or updated

  • police system is completely reworked with multiple tiers of NCPD/mercs chasing you down in vehicles according to your wanted level, apparently on level 5 maxtac will chase you down and it will be some sort of bossfight against them (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riK1i8lQwRM&t=511s)

  • perks and skills have been completely overhauled, no longer simple passive stat boosts, much more active abilities like different melee finishers, a dash, or the ability to deflect bullets with melee weapons

  • an entirely new 6th skill tree that uses a different type of skill points (relic points) that will be used to add new abilities to your cyberware

  • the difficulty curve is reworked/rebalanced

  • the loot tiers are reworked

  • archetypes of enemies have been redone for more variety in combat encounters

  • installing cyberware now has an effect on your body and you cant install too much or else you will go cyberpsycho (no idea what that looks like in game)

  • installing cyberware now has a first person cutscene added to it, just like in the prologue at Vik's clinic

  • you can now "attune" cyberware to one of your attributes, making it more efficient if you have invested in that attribute; example here optical camo is attuned to the "cool" attribute: https://i.imgur.com/1UI9SEX.png

  • armor is no longer tied to clothing, it instead tied to your cybernetics

  • vehicle combat is added to the game, you can even use your katana on your bike

  • you will be able to hack vehicles, similar to the Watch Dogs games

  • vehicles are no longer bought from fixers, but bought through a website set up by wakako

  • some vehicles have guns installed on them (machine guns, rocket launchers)

  • new type of infinitely replayable/repeatable missions are being added where you need to steal certain vehicles marked on your map

  • new activity introduced "airdrops", loot caches that drop randomly on the map that you can fight over and retrieve for yourself

  • tons of new random events/activities are added to make the world feel more alive, like car chases and gang fights

Trailer's already linked in the general news thread, but figured it may warrant some more discussion and this seems like the more appropriate place.

My only real worry is that they'll give in to the Cyber GTA crowd a bit too much, which would be especially bad news for the next game. While the map being kinda dead once you're done with the story was a bit of a shame I'm not sure gamey sounding random activities will make it better. But we'll see how they manage to spin it, probably should have a bit of faith in CDPR on this one.

Similar thoughts about the police system: if you play as a merc, and not a (GTA-style) thug you wouldn't exactly interact with it very often, at least imho so I can't say I particularly care about it being overhauled.

Looks like it'll be a busy end of year with Starfield supposedly also releasing.

doesn't really care about wanted or car combat

but a better cybernetic system would be very nice

hope player will get the full wardrobe of npc

some of their outfit are insane

player doesn't even get a glowing shoe or umbrella stick

also hope they don't fix the economy too much

there are too many thing to buy

I'm curious about the police system as well, since in all my hours of playing the game, I never even had a single star. Maybe I'm just too good of a driver and try to not hit civilians, dunno.

I was hoping NPCs would finally react to your look 😪

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

All I wanted is more main game, and it sounds like more main game is what we're getting. Pleased with that outcome, especially with it being a narrative sequel, rather than one of those mid-game DLCs where you're expected to load back a save from before the point of no return. Those are a pet peeve of mine as not only is it jarring to have to rewind time, it also ensures that the new content is ultimately pointless, a side-story with zero impact on the greater game world.

To my understanding it IS a mid-game DLC. I'm going to start a new character for it from the beginning anyway, for 2 reasons. A) To use the new perk system from the get go. II) To make a male character so that I can hook up with Panam.

Huh, the impression I got from the trailer is that it was a continuation of the main game as you try to find a cure.

I suppose it'd be interesting to try male V, but only if I also change my playstyle and forcibly make myself interact with the game's combat systems, rather than bypassing them all with stealth.

Yeah, I'm going to do a different playstyle too. Rather than sneaky and snipe-y I'm going with gorilla arms and I'm going to punch people.

but baseball bat bonk are fun for a while

We won't know what playstyles will be more or less viable until we see what the perk system rework looks like. Viable or not, I just want to punch people, though.

Interested to see what kind of effects cyberpsychosis has on the player.  Looks like a promising list though. Better finally get around to doing that upgrade

I played a pugilist. It was great fun. There's a bit of hide-and-seek behind objects to get enemies to come closer, but otherwise it was way more fun than my hacker.

Revamps to the melee combat and the gear system are what intrigue me most, as they remain my biggest sticking points with the game as it stands now. I hope how weapons are handled hew more towards what the BIS/Obsidian Fallout games had than to the Diablo/Borderlands formula.

And as many fans observed the <<Escape from New York>> parallels of the expansion's plot are difficult to ignore. Next thing you know some of the new clothing items (which are apparently completely cosmetic now) include that weird zip-up tank-top and an eyepatch.

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

never seen first person melee was a good choice

really need to focus more on cyberpunk ascetic

combat only need to be passable

too much fine tuning on complicated game are waste of time

If there's a 36 year old Adrienne Barbeau in the expansion then forget about Panam, I know who I'm hooking up with.
