213374U Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 D:OS2. Got into a fight with some undead bitch that spams summons that one-shot you turn one, because of course they go first. The suggested "strategies" I've found online, come back when you outlevel the encounter by two levels or play on explorer. Love this "design" where the difficulty comes solely from stat bloat, and then some cheap **** on top of that for good measure. Uninstalled. 1 - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.
Zoraptor Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Assuming it's the fight I'm thinking of you can pick her up with the teleporting gloves and drop her far away, then she uses all her AP running back towards you... I more or less wish I'd just uninstalled it as I surely must have had better things to do with my time; it's overengineered and most of the charming 'emergent' gameplay in the first has been replaced with dreary grind and finding the right exploit to use to make the next fight trivial. Dealt with as a puzzle game it's OK apart from its stultifying length but the armour and initiative systems will always be just awful ideas and implementations for an RPG.
213374U Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Perhaps. It's the undead eternal under the Blackpits. I mean, sure, I could just bring a billion oil barrels from the machine upstairs and explode them on her, giving her a taste of her own one-turn-KO medicine. I could abuse charm grenades and have her own dogs tear her a new one. I could respec everyone for max weapon damage and Opportunist and place them around her while she's talking so she's dead as soon as she takes a step. I could hit her from stealth for 9999 damage with a telekinetically hurled indestructible ornate chest containing literally everything that isn't nailed down in Driftwood. Whatever. Much tactical, such fun, wow. It's exactly as you say, the encounters feel like a succession of puzzles where the "solution" is some variant of coagulated casein. When I lose, I'm pissed because the AI doesn't play fair. And when I win it leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I didn't play fair. The issue is also compounded because the game seems to encourage exploration but not really because level gating and you're going to have a bad time if you run into a level 12 encounter at the end of that level 9 area. I was enjoying the story, but the gameplay is dreadful. Funny story, I never actually played DOS1. 3 - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.
GhostofAnakin Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 More Red Dead Redemption 2. I need to upgrade the stopping power of my guns somehow. I swear it takes forever to kill one bad guy. Malcador Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Friend and I finally mastered stealth in our approach, our attempt at Steel Rain with an AH-6 sort of worked - super hard landing of the helicopter resulting in it bouncing and causing another helicopter to epxlode which then also set a car off as well did take out 2/3rds of the hostiles in the area. But was much easier just waiting to kill guards that seem to take up the patrol routes of their dead comrades. Why has elegance found so little following? Keyrock Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) I completed a whole bunch of puzzles in The Witness today. I opened up a new section and blitzed through all the puzzles in it rather quickly. Sometimes I'll encounter a type of puzzle that immediately clicks in my head and I have zero trouble figuring it out, while a different person might struggle for hours with the same puzzle. Conversely, there are puzzles that other people figure out almost immediately while I'll struggle with them. These particular puzzles had to do with colors and I had figured them out very quickly, as well as the different wrinkles they threw in as the difficulty ramped up in the section. I knocked the whole section out and activated another laser beam that connects to what seems to be a central hub of some kind. I'm sure I will need to activate a bunch more lasers before I unlock the secrets of the hub, but I made tremendous progress today. Hawke64 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Sundered: Eldritch Edition. Metroidvania/Rogue-like. If part of the locations wasn't RNG'd, the game would be amazing. All other aspects (combat, customizable PC controls, plot, graphics and soundtrack) are great, but randomized areas and the horde system make exploration much less enjoyable, than it could be.
Gorth Posted January 10, 2019 Author Posted January 10, 2019 Took a beak from Master of Orion 2 for something completely different last night... a few rounds of Killing Floor 2. GhostofAnakin Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Get the better ammo or switch to a newer weapon. Sadly RDR2 is the type of game where older weapons become useless while progressing through the story. That sucks. Particularly because I picked up a "rare" gun thanks to one of those sidequests. Chances are the gun won't be useful soon. On that note, I took a break from my first play through to start one where I chose the "bad guy" options. I'm not seeing any real benefit to it so far. Chilloutman Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Returned to GW2 for some fun, friend was still pushing me to come bac kto play with him and then was not logged for a week, still I am sucker for this game so I quite enjoying it as it is alone I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. Those rare weapons are more of just for show imo, they have some skins/wraps that you'll never find in stores BUT their stats always suck and they're not customizable so you're going to have stock weapons that have far better stats soon. I was pretty disappointed with those rare weapons... though I liked how Midnight's pistol would misfire/jam realistically making for some intense frefights which I managed to catch on a youtube video I uploaded - in a way, almost felt like the gun funxtioned as a modifier because of that. Sadly RDR2 is the type of game where older weapons become useless while progressing through the story. That sucks. Particularly because I picked up a "rare" gun thanks to one of those sidequests. Doesn't it make sense given the time period tho? If there's any setting where meaningful gun upgrades would make sense, it'd be 1800-1900
SonicMage117 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 (edited) You're asking if a game makes sense? I'll explain it this way.. Upgrading and maintaining your weapon is essential, my volcanic pistol basically became a golden gun by the end of the game, one shot kills. The Volcanic Pistol is out of the box outdated and yet still remains the most powerful close-range gun in the game and it's not like you have to wait a long time for it to become purchasable as weaker more modern guns do. That's not even mentioning how gun belts add permanent upgrades has on different types of guns.... Additionally, any rifle/shotgun can be upgraded to the point where they're all even when maxed out by the end of the game and on even page. But keep in mind, it's a game and it's not pushing to be 100% accurate. The real advatage for any weapon only lasts when you first pick them up - and that's fully dependent on if you don't have something more powerful. Mid-game I wasn't worrying about finding new weapons because if this. This tells me that they wanted players to play with the gun they liked most rather than what was superior historically. Accuracy in guns comes at the cost of power, and to further correct you Fenixp, upgrades to pistols/handguns existed long before then - learned this by watching Deadliest Warrior series That rule doesn't apply in RDR2 though, however it was indeed accurate for the game to depict the Volcanic pistol as the deadliest weapon in the game at first pick-up - well, minus the dynamite of course! LadyCrimson Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 (edited) After deciding I was done with D3/console, I learned Jan. was when they did some D1-old Tristram event. Looked it up and had to run it. It's a set of dungeon levels made to kind of resemble the first game - desaturated colors, pixely, D1 dungeon quests and items as novelty low level drops (Ring of Truth, Veil of Steel, Arkaine's Valor armor, staff of Apocalypse etc). It was quite amusing when you've never done it before. Best thing about it was the Butcher cosmetic pet you get for completing it with a new character, and the fact they made your chr. walk in that stiff-shouldered/leg way of D1 - although they didn't force you to walk at a snail's pace, alas. It basically made me want to play the story-quest version of D1 again (I usually played the MP version of D1, that didn't have the quests). I have it installed somewhere, I think I'll fire it up today. Edit: first I have to find my D1 disc...discs, how quaint) Edited January 10, 2019 by LadyCrimson 1 “Things are as they are. Fired it up - what's with all the wonky colors. Oh yeah, on Windows7/later you had to use a plain color (like black) desktop + have the windows Resolution setting window open/active while you play, to make that go away. What a strange fix. At any rate ... it now looks perfect and I'm about to enter the dungeon to the strains of that awesome original music. Glancing through those discs, there's a bunch of other old ones I should play again, too. 2 “Things are as they are. Looked it up. The HD part I'd like but eh, I don't like total rework mods myself, although it looks good, just not to my taste. I saw posts from 2016 that said it worked fine, no clue tho. I remember playing Hellfire (still have that disc too) but it had zero of the original games appeal - eg I just like the base original game. Except Hellfire's fast walking in town was nice. Although, I've noticed on my current rig that the walking in town doesn't feel all that slow anymore vs. on the ancient pc's. Heh. I force it via gpu to play in 4:3-ish at around 1400x1050 resolution (doesn't change my actual desktop res that way and game fills the screen vertically) so it's not widescreen stretched out (which isn't that awesome w/original disc) when I play. Looks ok that way. Edited January 10, 2019 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. LadyCrimson Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 (edited) i think you can customize it quite a lot, i am also only interested in HD mod and ability to run in town (also there are some UI tweaks) Everything I've read about it was around a year or so old and indicated you couldn't separate the new gameplay features from the HD. Could've changed tho, ofc. This has made me curious however so I found this mod: https://github.com/qndel/Infernity (zipfile download link is in the description stuff below the file name table) It has a HD resolution picker, run in town (and in dungeon if you want, when not in combat), 4 tabs of inventory, other stuff. Some options you can (supposedly) turn on/off via a config file it includes. No gameplay changes except for a new/hard difficulty that has items with a 3rd stat and maybe other things (saves from being in that mode are then not non-mod/lower difficulty compatible), which I'm not clear if it adds it or replaces the original Hell difficulty. So far I've found two caveats (on Win7-64/my rig anyway) - when I exit, the game closes but the infernity.exe you use to run the game (it's put into the Diablo install directory) doesn't close and I have to Task Manager/End Process to make it do so. Also, if you want HD but don't want wide "widescreen" the mod settings don't stick and I have to change them again. Not sure, felt wonky. If you want widescreen tho it seems to work ok? But everything gets really tiny tho, chr, enemies, etc, not sure I like that. I have to fiddle/play with it more.
