  1. EVERYTHING that is combat-related. Since this game looks up to its predecessors, getting to make combat *enjoyable*, *thrilling*, *dynamic* but first and foremost *to work* is top priority and pretty much, half of the fun of the game- the other half being role-playing/customization/exploration.
  2. Ty for your feedback gkathellar, my fear has been put to rest. However, reading the rest of your discussion, seems to me that balance will be something hard to achieve in PoE.. Is it because they made things too complicated perhaps ? It pains me to read that every new beta update has a new OP Class, like this is some mmorpg. Maybe they should make some hard decisions ? Get closer to the D&D facts, since this is were their inspiration comes from anyway ? And, lastly, simplify rules governing combat ? I love it that Mr Sawyer was creative and I too hate how D&D handles quite many things, but maybe those are the necessary evil after all. *edit:so not to double post*
  3. Being a 2nd ed. AD&D player and fan of old-school crpgs I have to say that Classes weren't balanced, but also that this was not a bad thing. Most Classes were unique in their abilities and were able to act in a seperate ways. Why have balanced Classes in PoE ? The effort to do that may result in a quite similar 11. People who have tried the beta can share their exp & opinions about this.
  4. Plz people, don't feed Malignacious the troll. PoE is not your kind of game, Malignacious, please move to some Bioware-DA3 forum and leave us at peace.
  5. Best release dare would be near Summer to be honest. If they released it this year they had to "fight" against Dragon Age which they can not win. Feb is Witcher 3 of course no chance. June or July seems like a great date and gives them some time too. Although I too have quite the anticipation for the W3 (huge fun of the series), PoE is what I'd like to play more, 'cause it's what it's missing from the market (plus I know I'd love Obsidian's story-telling infinitely more). DO3 ?? Seriously are there people in the forums that still trust Bioware(EA) will come up with a decent RPG ?
  6. How about just animations on the level of games made over 10 years ago, even that would be a huge improvement. They screwed up and they know it, at least that's a good sign. They screwed nothing. It's just that 2 years of development is hardly enough for the scope of such a project. Watching the updates of the development process like so many of you, I prayed they would take the decision to delay, many months ago. Seems the turning point was the outrage of the community at the current combat system, unfinished class progession and the pile of bugs. A decision well-deserved to the masterpiece Obsidian aspires to create.
  7. Are you gonna make an actual argument or observation about anything anytime soon? Higher content per post ratio, please. I've got one for you: Guys, stop feeding the troll ! Let'im wither and die in misery, alone !
  8. (double post,, rly sorry)
  9. To be completely honest, I think the devs are on witch hunt with the whole XP deal. To make a video game a true role-play game, there are a ton other things you need to focus, rather than if players get XP for killing or not. There is a rep system in the game, so why not somehow count what they kill and have to account for the slayers they are, with actual game impact(how the world perceives you).
  10. My goal isn't to discourage killing/combat overall, but to avoid the emphasis of combat solutions as the de facto best way to resolve quests (unless the quest is fundamentally about killing someone/thing, of course) and to avoid the player feeling compelled to kill everything they come across. I think it will be good for the game if a player can ask themselves, "Am I losing out by not completing this area with combat?" and sometimes answer, "Nah." Quest only XP accomplishes this, but obviously a lot of people want to gain XP from fighting. Short of having a separate mode where you get combat XP from everything and all of the quest XP is rebalanced around that, bestiary unlocking XP is the best solution I've come up with to accomplish both goals. What I do in D&D sessions is reward alternate solutions less, as much as or more than combat depending on the situation. Yes they can come back and kill the critter, why not get their reward ? After all, they managed to proceed doing both routes.(of course they can get an XP penalty for doing that if it makes no role-play sense) But my advice is not to remove 'kill XP', just make them marginally less than alternate ways you people want to encourage.
  11. On other matters, you recruit a party member late and let's say there are very few quests left for you to do-- he is forever doomed to remain low-level... Also, will there be random encounters that reward with XP ?(highly unlikely) -in essence this means that when you complete what there is to do in a certain area, it then becomes vacant & lifeless... The whole XP deal needs careful thought or it can become a game-breaker.
  12. D&D Alignment was never properly portraited in classic crpgs so I'm really eager to see how rep system is gonna work.
  13. This is Obsidian for Christ's sake. They are rpg masterminds and PoE will reflect that level of designer quality, a fact that is already apparent in the beta release.
  14. Great work ! Bring some more of that in the future.
  15. In response to the topic . . . . . . . . . . Matt516 covered me ! But I'd also like to add that it's nice to try and role-play than seeing all from a technical viewpoint. Think of a character & create her with flaws and strong points alike, then see what this playthrough has to offer. . . . That's how 'I' would enjoy playing the game.
  16. Me too. However I believe the developers' focus is in fixing critical game bugs rather than reworking the whole XP system and, at least IMO, they are right to do so.
  17. I agree. But as I've stated in the past, I personally have no problem should game release be postponed for a month or so. All I want is what all of you want: a great game (that works )
  18. I totally disagree with the member that started this topic.
  19. Oh enough with the goddamn roll for character. For those who don't know (and I guess they are many) Dungeons&Dragons character creation proposed many different ways to create a character, the point-buy system was always one of them. Just b/c Baldur's Gate chose to have us roll the abilities there's no need to recreate that. Especially when BG character abilities had little point and only two to three of them tops had meaning depending on your class. PoE wants to have ALL 6 attributes have importance, so they *need* a point-buy system.
  20. I played BG2 the first couple of times the 'normal' way. Then I played a couple times with hand-crafted gimmick parties. Try it with a full party of kensai/mages. You'll roflstomp over everything. It's fun because ridiculous. Also the story and companions in it isn't really all that great; it's OK by porn standards I suppose but not so good I'd want to play it a second time for the story. The variety in combat encounters, tactics, and party composition OTOH does make for massive replayability. I.e. on subsequent playthroughs I did pretty much click through the story to get to the fighting. In any case Obsidian's trademark is their writing, which you can already see in the BB -- I swear there was more interesting writing there than in all of BW's games since BG2 put together. Say it man. I am a huge fan of the BG Series, but it's about time we stop idolizing those games. And I'm happy Obsidian's got the courage to stand up to those 'legends' with their game.
  21. You are very unfair regarding the Aumaua, maybe because you have in mind the Zora people from 'The Legend of Zelda'. Zoras are inspired by sea creatures such as dolphins, however other sea creatures include deadly great white sharks or killer whales. And we know how Josh likes his were-shark people
