  1. What merchants need is a barter system similar to the Fallout games. Really adds in realism. I mean, you can't sell all the stuff you've accumulated gathering an amount of thousands gold pieces to a trader in a small, poor village. How did this guy had all this gold in his person and not living the good life ??
  2. Oh c'mon people .. walking speed adjustment ?? seriously ?! You are gonna play a RPG, at least try to act like it on a base level. Even if your protagonist wants to be Forest Gump your team-mates ain't gonna follow you around.
  3. A considerable part of my play time in the Baldur's Gate series was managing inventory space, categorizing and storing items. I stored my items in places I didn't own or Inns. Reality jumps out the window when you force the player to act so, so screw your 18 or 20 inventory slots and weight limit. Personally I am relieved of the bottomless stash.
  4. It can be as simple as such: some quest givers leave when you refuse the quest, never to be seen again, coping things on their own. This is sth I believe we might exp. in the game. Seeing the results of not you doing the quest and leave things develop on their own, although I'd love to see it happen, I don't believe we are gonna get that.
  5. While the renown concept is interesting, it would be difficult to implement into gameplay. However I specifically like the idea 'slaying a powerful soul and your weapon gets to absorb part of it'. But I doubt we will see that as well.
  6. So, granted our enemies use similar strategies, party mages are deep in their shoes for trouble
  7. Thing is, what are WE gonna do to reach the wizard when he is protected by fighters ?
  8. Maybe it's best this topic be moved on the Gameplay & Mechanics section as this here is the spoiler-free zone.
  9. Dwarves should never be the equal of anyone. Stumpy little jerks can hardly see over the table, their arms are too stubby to wield any weapon worth using, and they're clearly too dumb to be spellcasters of any quality. It's only this "you get a trophy just for participating" watered-down world we live in that lets people pretend dwarves are equal. But then Dwarves in cRPGs are not like those of Disney's classic film or like the Imp of Game of Thrones. Don't fall for PC propaganda from those east-coast elitists. *Ahem* you have clearly misunderstood sir. The dwarf race in PoE or by the pen-and-paper standard are humanoid creatures, but not humans. C r e a t u r e s. With humanoid characteristics. Much like is an Ogre-Orc-Goblin-Bugbear-Gnoll-Aumaua-Elf-Orlan They do not share any of the inabilities you mentioned and they can excel in anything they put their minds into. Of course past tradition has set them as excellent fighters first and foremost, those with fierceness, might and skill that can make the average human soldier tremble in their sight.
  10. Good point, like the Swashbuckler/ Musketeer or Pirate (Jack Sparrow ) archetypes that are all quite roguish but still front-liners.
  11. Me. I can't stand Arcanum. The music makes me want to slash my wrists. I don't like Fallout 1 either. Bwahahahahhahaha. The feeling of liberation is like fire flowing through my veins. OMG .... What is your place here, why did you even back this game guys ? Didn't the 'bring back the magic of the old games' sign at the door make you turn the other way ??
  12. I was replying to that post: You're right. Let's give the Thief ONLY the ability to: A) Enter Stealth mode. B) Pick Pockets. C) Pick Locks. There, that's fine. He never even levels up or anything (because why would he need to? His stealth makes him completely invisible and undetectable, and he automatically can pick any lock or pocket), and as long as he has absolutely no opposition or resistance, he can definitely stab you in the heart from behind. Otherwise, he's dead. That would be perfectly acceptable, since there's absolutely no reason to even consider balance at all.

  14. Also each Class will have 2 starting Skills, which are more likely to be pre-determined for each Class, so a Rogue naturally begins with a free Stealth Specialization. But he will not be the only guy who can 'use stealth mode'.
  15. Stealth in PoE will be a skill that anyone can invest points in and points awarded to Skills come from a different pool than that of those awarded to Class Talents.
  16. As for an answer to the topic, I don't think PoE will 'innovate', rather than it will take the best of many worlds and stitch them up like a plastic surgeon. It will have an air of freshness, polish and quality. At least that comes up from what we are shown so far. Hopefully it won't disappoint.
  17. Criticism, even strong criticism, is not the same as dislike. I'm extremely critical of D&D as a system, yet I played it as my primary PnP game system for 25 years. I would not have done that if I disliked it. My criticisms of BG2 in particular are strongly related. It's a great game, but also hugely flawed. That is not a contradiction in terms. The important thing (and I'm certain that many agree there) is that the game tried to pull it off and that effort succeeded in more ways than those it failed. IMO it was never the game meant for everybody and some appreciate it more than others. But THAT is where it excels the most, for me at least. Mainstream can only be so good, one has to look to expertise to get that they would enjoy the most.
  18. No he shouldn't. But by performing his opportunistic striker's role he will turn out to be of equal if not greater value than the fighter. Rogue's talents will require another member to flank/get aggro right ? I'm asking 'cause I'm not sure
  19. And yet, there seems to be a lot of dislike for the game from a lot of posters on this forum. Especially BG2 and the arguments how bad it was and how it handled things. eg. spells, ruleset, no variety, etc That is b/c most young people today prefer to mash a single 'attack' button, kicking arses and calling that thing a RPG.
  20. Nevermind, you want realism, stop getting anything you find thrown on the floor I will be releaved not having to clear up room and organize stuff in my inventory every 30-60 mins. (in reply to Volourn's post)
  21. Yes !! Dwarves ... c'mon the Orlans look really cool (may be 'fake' gnomes instead) As for the play exp. customization I loved it. Better have the On/Off Option rather than cakewalk 'On by Default'
  22. I believe there is no need for argument and distress. PoE will not not be an Infinity Engine game but IE-ish. It will be fresh not only in its looks but also in gameplay & mechanics. And that is good. I am a grognard and I absolutely love the old classics but I cannot wait to welcome this new production that years of experience and mature outlook in the genre allowed the developers to come up to. Put your trust in those guys that think very much like you and welcome the honest effort that is being made here. That is what I did.
  23. It was not fear or anything I read somewhere. Just the will to see how other backers feel about this (hopefully) unlikely scenario. Also, our word reaches Obsidian ears and I thought it would be good for them to know our reactions in advance in the (hopefully unlikely) case they are considering further delay is necessary.
