  1. Isometric CRPGs are not a model of any economic system that has ever or will ever exist. I don't recall ever having the interest on a credit card determined by a saving throw. If you need kickstarter to fund your product, then it's not a product that has great mainstream appeal. *Ahem*, I am surprised you backed this game. The 'Saving Throw' you so mock is a derivative of the large-scale successful 'Dungeons&Dragons' pen-and-paper game and cRPG's success was the effort to transfer the table-top game onto your PC's monitor. Even those games that did not have the 'Wizards of the Coast' license where very influenced by pen-and-paper games. You are wrong, the consumer market is out there, the thing is, the good games to buy are not there.
  2. I've read project updates, developers interviews, so I am well familiar with the kind of game PoE is gonna be. In the parts where they disagree with old-school cRPGs, I agree to disagree with them. No I will not be disappointed. PoE will most likely be for me the improved 'Baldur's Gate 3' that I've never got to have, albeit not Forgotten Realms Campaign World or AD&D rule-set (but I can live with that!)
  3. How do they fund a delay? And perhaps more importantly, how do you judge what is a "better game"? A game in development for 10 years isn't necessarily objectively better than a game in development for 2 years. Development process has top-priority goals and those of secondary priority. Usually some of those end up being cut off from the final product due to lack of development time. They can very well be elements the developers think they can add that extra bit of flavor, but in the end they decide they have to release their product leaving them out, so not to disappoint us paying customers who are so hyped to get the game without further delays. What I'm saying is that I want PoE to come out like it was envisioned, even if that means it will delayed another 2-4 or no matter how many months. It is clear so far our friendly developers are perfectionists, PoE is their prodigy, they want it to be as good as it can be and they want the game to leave behind a legacy and the ground for following titles. Being a pen-and-paper GM myself, I understand how they see things and I will be patient for this game no matter when it is released.
  4. I couldn't agree more. 'Pillars of Eternity' is our chance to show the RPG gaming industry they are headed the wrong way, or at least that more games addressed to mature audiences are released. There should be more titles like Baldur's Gate I&II, Fallout I&II, Planescape: Torment and I really hope 'Pillars of Eternity' imminent huge success is going to send a loud message to producers. As much as I, and probably every single person here wants that. I honestly highly doubt it will go far past a mild success or carving its own niche. A large part of the gaming audience is still young people, and I don't mean young adult, but children and teenagers. PoE is not the kind of game they want, even many people around my age (younger 20s) have absolutely no interest in these old format of RPGs. Your general audience finds them needlessly hard and complicated, and many just plain don't like the isometric style. Almost every single one of my gamer friends love Fallout 3 and NV for example, but thinks FI&II are awful crap and glad it's first person now. I understand that Fluff, all I'm saying is that despite that fact, old-school cRPG style based heavily on narrative, triggering imagination rather than graphic visuals and tactical combat need not disappear from the market, especially when the fans of such games can amass 5 MIL USD for the production of such a game. Even more so when the majority of the people bought a digital copy of the game for 25$, like I did, yet still such a grand amount of cash was raised. Such games can easily be released at full retail price. The community exists and is more than willing to buy such games.

  6. No friend, that is, as you said yourself, heretic. PoE will have Classes, not fixed ones like in D&D rules but custom-made through abilities/talents selection. But Classes they will be. You can play Skyrim for those features you like. Most of us backed a whole different kind of game.
  7. Not only you don't read the updates but also miscount - there are 21 months between Jan 1999 and Sep 2000, making it 1,75 years. Almost 2, ffs. Terribly sorry for that, I misread. There was a lot of distraction at the time I read the reply. Now on the matter, there seems to be a lot to be taken into account concerning delayed release, many financial issues my non-expertise cannot grasp. So I can trust Obsidian developers will continue their amazing work on their 'Pillars of Eternity' prodigy and that by the Winter of 2014 we will have a new cRPG favorite on a new Campaign World we will love. I would really like 'Pillars of Eternity' to make me say: 'I like this game better than the BG series' (although BG series has always been my most favorite cRPG)
  8. Very informative, thanks. WHOAH ! 1 year of development for Baldur's Gate 2 ! I imagined it would have required much longer, even though Infinite Engine was ready for use.
  9. I understand the developers are commited to release the game on the estimated date stated on Kickstarter Campaign, but we all know game content we founded is much bigger than what was first planned. All I am saying is if they need more time, that is OK with me and I hope the majority of the backers agrees with me. 'Pillars of Eternity' should not be hurried if this will compromise game quality. I am not the expert in saying this but I believe old Infinity Engine games had more than 2 years of development to be the masterpieces that they are. Developers can post a poll concerning this matter to see what our opinion is on this matter.
  10. Top 5 RP elements I would love PoE to accomplish: 5. Open Game World I can have access to soon after starting the game. You can punish me for being reckless, but do not take that away. Every single person I know or read about has their fondest memories exploring the Sword Coast in BG game. 4. Quests laid out over the course of the game that are as imaginative as those of pen-'n-paper games (developers are well familiar with such). 3. A fair amount of Free-form Quests. Plant it onto me, then let me figure out how to research and reach the goal. Let those quests have real alternate routes and not superficial ones. 2. Companions whose personalities I can shape up over the course of the game (or they in turn can shape me up) and in some cases that would lead to either a quest or/and some special ability gained, either for the companion or for the both of us when fighting along-sides. 1. Multiple Endings (true to the name) to Main Story based on dialog options/actions on end-game and also based on decisions made through-out some key points in narrative. It would also be great if your companions could alter final outcome in some manner.
  11. Combat 'n Sucker Punches. Well, I would love to be sucker punched. It is only natural in the kind of game-play PoE will try to resurrect. It is something I may do to my enemies on occasion as well, so why not have them do it as well ? Chances are that by a certain point in game our heroes will be better geared than 98% of encountered enemies, making most encounters standard procedure or, even worse, a boring delay to the goal. So have them surprise us, sucker punch the heck out of our party. Have them use clever traps or tactics and be prepared of our coming in general. That is, when circumstances allow such: NOT when we traverse an open forest area but YES when we enter the cave inhabited by a dangerous family of beasts. I really hope developers will not try to equalize everything, else we may end up getting a different kind of game than what we were promised.
