Ogre Druids are pretty much the toughest thing at their level and that Ogre Bounty in the cave has been the toughest fight in the game (relative to my party's level) for me, by far. On a related note, I found level 3 of Od Nua to be harder than the next 5 levels because of the few fights that had Ogre Druids. What I ended up doing was a lot of Durance buffing, GM CC/Charm, and I used as many of those summons figurines as I could.

The crazy thing is...how do you even lose buildings? I have never lost a building in a manual resolve. Auto-resolve? Always lose a building, or 3! And it would make a little sense if you lost the battle or something but I have had fights where I only lost 2 hirelings but then lost 3 buildings. And got that stupid 100cp debt. WTF is that? Seems like a leftover concept. -

+1 million. Currently filters are useless. -
Bumping this. It never fails, my party tries to gib any other party member that gets charmed. This needs to be fixed. Party members should *never* auto attack charmed or confused party members. edit: What are the ways to remove charmed or confused status from your guys? Suppress Affliction should, but it does not.

Wait, if I'm allowed to consume some other content if it offends me, why is Obsidian then not allowed to change the content if it offends them? If Obsidian was offended they should have said that. No one vetted the backer content that was submitted? Bull****. Of course they vetted content. The backer content was submitted and they had no problem with it. It was only after some loser posted on twitter that this was an issue. And again, if you have a problem with content, go elsewhere.

It isn tbh. I can quite easily live with 20 seconds of my speed chant/fortitude chant to get out two ogres then switch to my aoe Fire nuke. Its just tactical. TBH i wish other highlevel spells came with similar consequences, because it keeps the lower level spells more competitive. I think the problem is that most classes dont need to min max or make any real choice strategically, as a wiz or druid you unload you high level spells first and work down, as a chanter you have to make a choice about faster invocations with weak chants, or slower invocations with more powerful chants.IMO chanters realllly shine in longer fights Sure, but how often do you have those longer fights where you can use a longer song to power down an enemy and then take advantage of weaker songs to power an invocation? In my experience, fights barely last long enough to get out a first level song with first level phrases. On it's own, the chanter may not have a bad design, but the rest of the game isn't built in a way that allows that design to work. Yeah they definitely get stronger the longer a fight lasts but that does not make them good or balanced, IMO.

Nice idea, bad execution. The Endless Paths and the Bounties are the only decent gameplay features in CN and they could easily exist elsewhere in the game world. Building it up is nice and all but it costs a ton and really gets you nothing for most of the buildings. The merchants are dog****. You are paying these dudes to come set up shop and they have generic inventories and give you no discount vs merchants in other places. Its literally the worst collection of merchants in the game. Prestige and Security are too vague. Far too many of the random events are bad. Autoresolve has never worked out for me, I always lose building(s). The rest bonuses from the buildings are not cumulative with each other so you can get a better rest bonus from almost every other inn in the game, the loading screens make it an even worse proposition to rest there and finally its days away from a lot of stuff so you cant really take advantage of the rest bonuses in many instances.

I agree with the general sentiment of the OP. Stronghold concept is great, execution was poor. Aside from the Endless Paths dungeon and the warden that gives bounties (both of which could be located anywhere in the game world), there is nothing worth going to CN for. In fact its all sort of tedious and a quite a money sink. The buildings are cool to look at once. But the rest benefits are not worth traveling there for, the vendors are generally terrible and don't give you a discount? No unique items. Does their stock change? I thought maybe Chapel might have rare scrolls, didn't look like it. Same with Curio shop, thought it might be a way to get rare crafting mats, didn't seem like it though. I would say that as a collective, these vendors that you *pay* to come to you are the worst in the game. The house is the same way no upside...hitting the closest inn is going to get you a better rest bonus, especially later in the game, and the cost is trivial AND you dont have to deal with the loading screens. Definitely need to allow resting with the bonuses without having to go through all the loading screens. It would also be nice if you could initiate travel from anywhere in the larger CN area, without having to run to a transition point at the edge of the map. What exactly are Prestige and Security supposed to do? I guess I get more 'tax' revenue now than when I used to but bandits still take money from me even with every building built and 8/8 hirelings. Hireling concept needs to be streamlined. The UI is not very intuitive. They always say not paid or whatever, even when they just got paid or hired. I don't understand what drives their costs either...some of the random hirelings are super expensive with, in some cases, negatives to prestige. Why would you want that? Also I saw one that said 'quest' next to him but I could not figure out what to do with him. The random attacks are the worst. When I auto-resolve I lose buildings (lost 3 buildings...over 6000cp in a Drake attack last night) and get 100 cp debt? What? Thats fine that there is a 'risk' element to these random events but there does not seem to be a reward element to them. When you manually resolve them and wipe the floor (why are bandits attacking me that get 1 shotted?) you sometimes get nothing, not even a body to loot in some cases. -
Cipher has a few overpowered abilities but the main reason why it is better than all the other classes is because of the Focus mechanic. The fact that you start fights with 10+5*level focus means you can choose 2-3 abilities to cast as soon as combat starts. Out of Focus? Soul Whip gives you decent DPS and gives you Focus enough for another cast in as few as 1 attack. So basically you have a ton of great abilities, many of which stay powerful throughout the game, that Focus turns into 2-X use per encounter, X being unlimited thanks to Focus, while other classes have a mix of finute use per rest and per encounter. Chanter, for me, feels weak because of the way phrases work compared to Focus, ie. very slow to generate. Summons are great but honestly they have turned a fight for me like twice in a ~40 hr play through. Also, very much unlike Cipher abilities, a lot of incantations stop getting used as you level up. I use Kana mainly because even nerfed Ila is still really good if you use a lot of bows and guns, and I do.

My primary game is a wood elf Ranger with a Bear on hard. I think I am at the end of Act 2, level 9 party. Eder is my primary tank, I use Pallegina too. The Bear can tank but is no where near as good as either of them, and I have Pallegina using a Great Sword. All that said, the character seems to work fine. I think Rangers probably need a buff but they are definitely playable and regardless of which pet you take, you can be successful.

Pretty small patch. I am looking forward to the 1.05 balance patch.

This page lists merchandise you can buy at Winfrith's Arms and Armory But it does not list Justice? Where did you get that you can buy Justice there? I went to check myself and it wasnt there. but you can buy there: Tall Grass St Rumbalt Grudge Keeper Ritezzi's Thorn Mosquito Raerdic gives you Justice if you kill Kolsc. Alternatively, I think he drops it if you kill him. He does drop it if you kill him. Where are the named guns? I am only in Act 2 but I don't want to miss them. I have found Disappointer and Forgiveness (pistols) and Leadspitter (Blunderbuss). Thanks

OP, I have the same problem with almost every RPG, but not to your extent. I created one of every class in the Backer Beta and I still was not sure what I wanted to play upon release. I knew I was gonna play on Hard, no expert or trial of Iron but that was about all I decided on. I tried to choose from Monk, Barb, Rogue since those were the three classes not represented by the 8 companions. So, started a Death Godlike Rogue. Stopped playing him due to double click removes passive bug. Have not started him again due to Reckless Assault character sheet suppression spam. This guy got to level 4. Started a Hearth Orlan Druid next. I like Druids too, and they were super charged in the BB. Got him to level 3ish. Stopped playing because of double click passive bug. Started a Ranger next. I thought Rangers were weak in the BB, and still on the back half of the power curve for the 11 classes, but thematically I like the idea of a Ranger. This dude is in Act II at level 6. Started a Moon Godlike Paladin next, or maybe before the Ranger? I go back and forth between these two games pretty much. This guy earlier in Act 2 and level 5 I think. Lastly, at some point I started a Aumaua Barb. 21 Might, heavy hitter. Carnage is cool but I don't play the class well and am always close to dead. Anyway. I don't really have any advice except to force yourself to pick a class and dive in. Maybe play Trial of Iron? I wouldnt normally recommend that level of masochism to anyone but in your case if you are gonna be constantly second guessing yourself it might actually help you play the game.
