Fanart | Custom Portraits
Havelok replied to Wespenfresser's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Holy Catfish! These are great! If you actually expect people to use these however, you should remove the watermark. I realize you want to promote your work but it defeats of purpose of posting them in a community setting (except of course to simply get praise).- 164 replies

Day 1 patch release
Havelok replied to juanval's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Then, will the game released on 26 march contain this patch or we must update it? Depends whether or not you preload. If you preload, you will have to download the patch. If you do not, then the download should include the first patch. -
Here is an extra portrait for a Moon Godlike if anyone would like to use it:

Autosave issue
Havelok replied to DruidX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Unless of course they designed each area to have a buffer zone between the party and any stress-point. Which is quite possible, considering modern area design. If the party can leave the area and isn't immediately ambushed by enemies, it wouldn't be a problem in practice. In short, there might not be any ambushes. -
The large subreddits like /r/Games, /r/Gaming and /r/pcgames will likely have threads read by thousands of people, so supporting those and answering questions from newcomers will always be helpful.

Wait until the release version. If you still have the problem, I'd post on the bugs forum with your full configuration ans screenshots. It's likely an issue with your config, mobile GPUs always have less support than desktop cards.

Autosave issue
Havelok replied to DruidX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It would help if I could bind quicksave to my Mouse5 button. I mean, I can if I download an external utility, but that's one of my biggest pet peeves with Unity! Extra Mouse Buttons are useful and should be supported... But yes, Obsidian please make autosave occur before area transition if possible. It is completely sensical. -
The titles are confusing because it's a reflection on the fact that during *actual* colonial times it was just as confusing. Titles came to mean different things to different people, some fell to the common folk (gentleman, for instance), and some nobles adopted words from the native tongues to serve as "fad" titles. This happened cross-culture as well, as colonial nations often had a mixture of people from different lands, and every language tended to have a basketload of names for their own tiers of nobility (which did not necessarily always line up with those from other lands as far as prestige or duty).

Of course we do. But no one has much of an idea of how much reach this game will actually have. I for one predict it will have a "Long Tail" sales forecast, rather than a traditional Day 1 Skyrocket. The game will draw many people through word of mouth, though the trouble of word of mouth is that it can be a mite slower than a massive ad campaign. Honestly I think it should do as well as Wasteland 2, though I obviously hope it does as well as Divinity: Original Sin. Anyway, everyone here can help by participating in Reddit threads and threads in places far removed from Obsidian and RPG codex that are still popular.

Custom Characters in Stronghold
Havelok replied to Kordanor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There is no "Have To", as the stronghold is mostly optional content. As for whether or not your custom companions can work in the 'Hold, that remains to be seen. Signs point to yes but keep in mind that each custom character costs a hefty amount of coin to recruit, especially if they are higher level. -
Ugh, yes it does. That was an old version that sneaked into the build, it's fixed now. Oh good. I was worried there for a bit. As a composer myself I appreciate the added flair, but it just felt like it wasn't mixed properly. I overall like what you have done with the tracks we have been able to hear, it's been interesting to follow the progression of certain pieces. I always have the temptation to overcomplicate simple compositions.. adding complexity is fun but it's not always for the best. I'm always worried I will cross the threshold from "that sounds cool" to "what the **** was that!?!".

Dual Class, Multi Class or similar
Havelok replied to LHWong's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
They might figure out a way to do it for PoE 2, but I wouldn't hold your breath. It's also slightly counter to the lore, as each class gains their power from manipulating their soul in different ways. Paladins burn their soul, Wizards manipulate ambient souls, Druids commune with the soul of nature, etc etc. -
Backer Beta Build 480 Portraits
Havelok replied to InsaneCommander's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Dat Redhead tho. These all look fantastic! In an ideal world we would have infinite portraits, but unfortunately we don't quite have art robots just yet. I wonder how many portraits we aren't seeing that are reserved for in-game NPCs... in some ways I'd prefer if they let us use *all* available portraits, even ones used by NPCs, even if there was a little warning or something saying that it is used by a character in the game. -
Sell me on a Class
Havelok replied to armorb's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Monks can punch people across the screen and knock enemies over like bowling pins. My second playthrough is going to be a Monk, a death godlike obsessed with pain. Obviously my "i'm an evil d ick" playthrough, ha. -
Just noticed that u can enchant clothing!
Havelok replied to mrmonocle's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I just hope there is a decent variety of clothing -- I don't want no stinky armor, though the Hide Armor looks really cool for once (lots of feathers!) -
I guess I don't play enough games to understand those type of quests in a game. They are optional quests for people who enjoy the combat more than or equal to story content. In some games they are really neat (Grand Theft Auto V assassination missions, The Witcher hunts and trophies) while in others they can be mediocre. The majority of the quests in PoE will involve guile as well as violence and (I presume) ways to succeed through guile alone.

I'm hoping for a Save Game editor so that I can resolve any issues or bugs that prevent me from finishing a playthrough. Other than that, like most hundred hour RPGs it's just a matter of persistence. Just be aware that the Easy mode takes away creatures from conflicts so you may not be able to flesh out your bestiary as much.

Pax East Stream Feedback thread
Havelok replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You might like the look of some areas but not others. *shrugs* . Glad to see you've joined the rest of us in believing the game is gorgeous. -
Who do you expect to bring along on your first play through?
Havelok replied to wanderon's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yea, Kana Rua is making me doubt my decision to choose Chanter. Big Burly guy with lots of Lore to share about the world, gregarious, funny, and (I think) he's your intro to the stronghold. I might switch to a wizard and ignore Aloth as I could probably do well to ignore the Emo Elf. I might also leave Mother for the second playthrough, as she seems like the Emo cipher. I'd rather leave depressing characters for my "I'm an evil dickface" playthrough. In any case I'm bringing along Eder for sure (it seems he is the Imoen of these games). The other companions are going to have to prove themselves interesting to me. -
Fill is more intuitive, I agree. The ATB system is a good example.
