Tax rates are already at historically low levels, btw. I'm all for lowering government spending, but the solution needs to be a mix of cutting costs and taxing effectively.

Just saw the Red Dawn trailer. Guard Dog will be upstate when the scary North Korean paratroopers land. He will dig a hole and drink heavily until they go home. xD Sounds like a typical weekend. We really need to save some of this material for when he gets back

Did you see the original? Is was also super silly, but it had Patrick Swayze so all is forgiven. Now I want to watch Roadhouse, dangit.

Wait...they don't go to Mars? What the heck?

While there are plenty of drug cartel movies out there, and invasion makes no logical sense. The point of the cartel is to make money, not overthrow governments.

Caught the trailer for a Red Dawn remake. The movie looks like a fun little action flick, and I really did enjoy the original. But I do kind of wonder what the message is here. We aren't in a Cold War anymore. The bad guys look Chinese, but given that China is the US's biggest trading partner, that seems like an awkward choice. I don't know, I guess I should just realize it is a silly movie and not a political statement

Happy Birthday Malcador!

Yeah I've never understood how anyone believes anything either party is saying. It's all hyperbole. It's worst in the media, there doesn't seem to be any journalistic integrity anymore, you just make stuff up that sounds insane.

While all Tea partiers may be fiscal conservatives, not all fiscal conservatives are tea partiers.

While I agree that there isn't a real stellar candidate here, people seriously put too much stock in who the President is. The balance of power is extremely effective at limiting what the executive branch can do.

So Mitt Romney chose Paul Ryan as his running mate. I don't know a ton about this guy, but this seems like a decent choice, much better than Sarah Palin. He's young, he's fiscally conservative, he has experience in Washington. I still don't think it is enough to counter the fact that Romney is not really very popular. The guy needs momentum, and I don't know if this pick will give him enough to make it a strong challenge.

Cant, EA has all their new stuff on Origin and not on Steam. It is not clear whether it was Valve or EA's decision to do this.

Just finished the original Prophecies campaign for Guild Wars. It was a lot of fun, and it sets the stage for GW2 nicely. The last level was a bit tough, but I joined a group of real people and it made it much easier. After 7 years it held up surprisingly well. The gameplay is still pretty iffy, they really improved that in GW2 tremendously. Oh there is another stress test today from 4-8 EST or something like that.

I was put off by that picture originally, but they aren't all cute and cuddly. Most of them remind me of mole people with razor teeth and big eyes. The video doesn't show it, but the way they jump is hilarious. http://youtu.be/3EaC02CfOd0

I'm pretty sure Borderlands is a game best played with others. So you were probably playing it wrong.

Not sure if serious, but if you notice there is actually only one film from 1997 on that list, and none after 97. So Titanic (1997 release) is barely at the point where it would really be considered. It did win 11 academy awards, so your argument is pretty shaky here. Glad to hear about the pacifist playthroughs in Dishonored. I still plan on getting it on day 1. Kubrick only won one academy award and it was for "special effects". That's how meaningless those trinkets are. So basically you guys are saying a film can be incredibly profitable, receive great reviews from critics, appeal to a widely diverse audience from ages 8 to 80, and garner a ton awards, but that doesn't make it a great movie? I know it's trendy to hate on stuff that's popular, but we've reached the point of absurdity.

Doesn't include Fight Club, therefore it is suspect. Fight Club is also barely eligible at this point as a 1999 release.

It is hard to win an argument with Volourn when you confuse personal taste with actual facts. Volo is correct, Titanic is one of the greatest movies. It doesn't just have the sales figures, it has critical praise, a stable of awards, and is immensely popular. As for the NWN argument, we've had that one enough for the regulars to know this is a fruitless endeavor. I've already ordered Dishonored, but I am a bit concerned by that video. I just hope I can use those abilities to avoid combat just as often, the player came off as a psychopath in the video.

PSHome stinks though, I miss the Xbox Live setup. Still, everything else about my PS3 is sweet. The Blu-Ray player is solid, it's quiet, and I've never had any technical problems in the few years I've owned it. Given that I broke three Xbox's during the same span, I'm happy.

Given that they released an expanded ending for free, I'd say Bioware did about all you can expect towards addressing fan concerns about ME3.
-
Why would Bioware go anywhere? Mass Effect 3 was very successful. Even Dragon Age 2, which I didn't like, still put up good numbers. Just making games you don't like won't put them out of business, they have to stop selling as well. I'm also really not sure if TOR has failed. I know it hasn't met the lofty expectations, but it isn't exactly posting abysmal numbers. The real test will be if the f2p model actually turns a profit.

Nintendo and Microsoft barely seem to have an overlapping customer base at this point, so I don't see it being a big problem for them. Even with the Kinect, a new Xbox is going to be targeting a very different demographic.
-
And this is exactly why the film turned out to be so shallow - it didn't dare to adress what it wanted to adress on a deeper level. Well they were following the book there, but the book series wasn't particularly deep either.

"Sounds like you need a trooper" I chuckled every time I delivered that line.
