  1. Maybe a geographically episodic skyrim like game could work, Imagine a game as big as the dlc Dragonborn, every 6 months the release another island/plan of existence/duchy (or whatever contrivance they use to explain the game) Each separate episode could have a main quest and side quests resolved within it plus a deeper main quest that carries over. yeah that could work. Personally I would love something with deep characters and factions of Obsidian coupled with the graphics, vistas and broad scope of a TES game. I also think they seeing the still quite impressive New Vegas sale numbers and community support plus the Eternity kickstarter success that publishers would love to do a deal with Obsidian.
  2. When i said Skyrim was celtic...ish I was just remembering the art/design work on banners/inns etc. Of course Nord culture is very Norse itself. But in retrospect I get what your'e saying, Ok i'll rephrase myself - I have enjoyed North European pre christian inspired culture and art styles in fantasy but I think I've had my fill for now.
  3. Anything except for another Celtic inspired fantasy, I mean I love Skyrim, Lord of the Rings etc but I think celticness and its byproduct of using Irish/Scottish and regional English accents in fantasy games has run its course, time to move on maybe.
  4. I want to suggest some simple functions to the menu, some of them from the total war series, some for the Civ series that i love Game menu options - Save current game and exit to desktop -Load current game I would also love a desktop shortcut to current save
  5. Well i dont know about J-pop but I do think there shouldn't be this automatic Fantasy must have European medieval/classical music straight-jacket either. I want to suggest that different ethnic.races have very different music Like for example Sagani? people could be south american wind pipes while another race might like japanese drumming
  6. Save and Exit to desktop from game in one click. Continue from last save desktop shortcut.
  7. I like Cadegund armor, it sits in this happy medium between bikini armor enthusiasts and the just give them mens armor crowd. I also think that as you went up the class ladder you would find that women (and men ) with more income/status would add decorations, even feminized touches like slightly molded breast plates to their armor.
  8. Yes i agree with some of the posts above, screenshot / something showing what the gameplay will actually look like, combat animations, how detailed the armour and faces will be, zoom in/out limits. But Im guessing this kind of thing is still 6 months? away Personally I dont need more lore stuff, I will pick that up as i play and explore (and read the wiki after i finish the 1st playthru)
  9. Not that exotic but I would love Flails to be in the game. oh and shuriken.
  10. Normal and weak FTW! Becoming OP is usually the time I start a new play-through actually.
  11. I thought the Dragon age origins puzzles were ok actually. I mean some were a bit easy and some required a bit of thought. I see some people here bragging how they were too easy but I have to disagree, and I really liked the word puzzles in the sacred ashes quest, true it would have been better without the multiple choice answer system but thats unavoidable I think for a word puzzle, They were required main quest puzzles so they had to be solvable by the overwhelming majority. Im ok with much harder puzzles but only to unlock optional loot rooms for example. Now Skyrim's puzzles are the prime example of how not to do it (sorry skyrim, i still love you) They were overly simplistic and dull.
  12. Yeah , I have to give a shout out to Aloth's magic too. Its dark, sneaky and a bit disgusting. I love the look. Hopefully the other wizard will be a serial womanizer with a secret snuff addiction to round out his character and give him some edge.
  13. The later Sagani is the brown colored artwork while the earlier one is the shorter snow pic right ? hmm i preferred the the second version then , thought it was less typical LOTR dwarf and more inuit / kalahari bushman look. Edair, the only thing I would say about him is he looks a bit soft and looks like he has had an easy life, give him some world weariness and lose a few kilos, or is he meant to be a well off human from the upper class? Aloth looks ok, I like that he has long hair and that the magic looks to be a bit disgusting rather than clean floating white sphere look. Fortan looks to be a nutcase, but in a good way. I think its great that he is older, but still ripped and ready for some up close and personal martial arts. I would make the tattoos on the arms and back rather than the belly button mind you. Hopefully the tattoos have magical meanings and different "rune" tattoos will be on his body depending on how you level/spec him. Cagegund, looks great, really hit the spot of attractive but in no way fan service hot. The only other thing i can think to add is that ediar, fortan and cagegund are all pretty caucasian looking, hopefully we can get something else for the next human companion. OH yeah, i like fat wizards too, he spent his days reading magic texts and munching on sweet shrimp cakes, of course he wont be ripped.
  14. Isnt it always Try to be a Original Character but in reality throw in a lot of Self-Insert while when push comes to shove Meta game ? Although like others i think i meta game more in a 2nd or third play-through and self insert is nearly always my first character.
  15. I will admit, while i haven't read the dragonlance books since high school i do have a soft spot in my heart for Magerette Weiss and Tracey Hickmam Kind of like Raymond Fiest - generic but done well with decent characters. However no one should mention David Eddings.
  16. Thanks Agelastos, yes i only read the 1st book ok if i see it at a book exchange while on holiday this winter i might pick the 2nd one up
  17. Im happy that Joe Abercrombie got a few mentions, not at all a grand world builder ideas guy BUT he is funny and writes good characters. (although his latest REVENGE left me unimpressed compared to his previous books) Rothfuss- i really enjoyed his first book, but i was in two minds about it, part of me kept thinking, well this is just a much better written Harry potter book, but most of me thought ..yes, so what, this is a MUCH MUCH better harry potter. george RR- yes, while its a bit light on magic(some might say one of his strengths, keep magic in the dark, on the sidelines,) but its a damn fine series, attention to detail, solid logic underpinning the motives , a real world filled with real people. China Mievelle- fresh ideas, fresh fantasy, realistic people, and power structures, great religions, and not a pointy eared elf or a magic sword in sight, Fantastic! and the one i dont get Steven Erikson, I really tried to get into his books, but i just couldnt, it was all war and bloodshed, everyone was some sort of uber wizard, god, witch hunter, soldier par excellence, warlord etc, To me it was like Diablo, in story form, 800 pages long. There was no real world of regular people, no real motives beyond war and destiny, it was all 1000 year old flaming magic swords and floating castles. I guess i should have just gone along for the ride. So i guess i would want Mievelle to build the world, and all the political and economic structures, Abercrombie to write the companion characters, and the story by Rothfuss. and maybe KJ parker as an engineering consultant
  18. I heartily agree, The Witcher 2 had a great plot with conspiracies within conspiracies all bound up with believable motives.
  19. It seems the armour discussion is in good hands in this thread. as for "Should something like hide armor be supplanted/made obsolete by leather as an "improved version" or does that effectively kill the visual concept of the rough-hewn rawhide-wearing ranger or barbarian? " cant some concept of an inherent racial/cultural bonus be applied to solve this ? for example sagani has a boreal dwarf racial preference for rough hewn rawhide armour? she grew up it, was presented her first real set by her father at 12, spent her formative years training with weapons in that very set of armour, to go and put her in a "civilized" leather armour she might get better armour rating but surely she would be (at first anyway) uncomfortable and correspondingly loose her armour related racial bonus
  20. Well I think we are safe from overblown cut scenes (budget), console friendliness (pc exclusive ), deus ex machina, overt sexualisation and silly manga weapons (game maker's pedigree) without those surely the nausea has gone down. I guess I just want love to be alongside revenge, greed, justice, anger and a burning desire to right all of the world's wrongs (or whatever PE writers decide) to be a driver of the companion character arcs and thus the game as a whole.
  21. I'm with you there on the elf girl action SoshiGEE I thought Dragon age origins did it ok, the whole relationship thing, not great but well enough. The only thing I didn't like was it was too easy and there were no hard choices in the relationship hunt. I wouldn't mind a love triangle, I get to keep the two companions IF i encourage them to they develop a relationship, IF I instigate a relationship with one of them the other leaves in a jealous rage. That's a hard choice, see the girl/guy of my dreams snuggling up to a companion but hey to save the world we all need to make sacrifices or deliberately weaken my team in order to get the girl/boy as to the questions asked way back at the start what type of dynamic, complex character relationships are important to your gaming experience, if any? ---if you enjoy romances in games, what type of plots do you enjoy or dislike (tragic, happy ending, marriage/family)? All except family i guess, tragic would be great, something to wrench the guts, maybe a save the love interest but agree to murder a kind stranger situation ---what romance or relationship arcs from other games did you personally enjoy that can serve as examples? Dragon age origins, talking unlocks more options, perform missions for love interest, but the present giving thing was too easy. I like how other companions commented on the relationship, maybe with their view of you changing accordingly. I liked the companions to getting bonuses depending on their views on your actions, BUT it shouldn't be possible to keep everyone happy ---do you have any particular, preferred game mechanics for romance/relationships that you'd like to see included (optional questlines, dialogue, cutscenes As i said before- hard choices, example - The noble knight is ok with sheep thief girl joining the party because the world needs saving and all and she is good with lockpicks , but for you, the leader he looked up to to provide a false alibi to the angry farmers who will go hungry this winter in order to curry favour with the girl, that's a step too far, adios amigo. And for a companion to leave because you initiated a cross species/race/homosexual relationship which their culture/religion frowns upon
  22. Love the T-shirt, NOW that would be a bold (and great IMO) choice, Amon Tobin for the soundtrack! Too often "fantasy" music has automatically meant orchestral movie soundtrack blandness. As for the update, I was wondering...what can we do ? You have this great community who will work for free, please use it \ us. I know the P.E staff will come to the fotums for some fan feedback but how about something more preoactive, say have a competition to write a one page backstory on some of the companions, submitted to PE, they flick thru and choose the best one. Fan fiction might be 95%fluff but you will find a diamond in the rough every now and then.
  23. I dont need sex per se but i feel that the game should show that in a harsh violent world with a rigid hierarchical social structures and a pre industrial economy, sex is a readily available commodity and that selling/offering it was for some women their only way to put bread on the table. Mature themes i would like to be explored in PE - racism, sexism, religious extremism, class oppression For some game companies that kind of mature content would be a lot more controversial than just throwing some flesh and swearing into the game.
