Either we're being scanned by a positronic sensor beam from the alien mothership, or they may have found direct evidence for a certain form of dark matter: http://phys.org/news/2013-04-scientists-hint-dark-results-billion.html

There's a good chance however they're gonna find a new deal with someone to finish 1313. Would be a shame not to pursue completion of it. Agreed. The concept of moving away from a force/lightsaber-centric game yet sticking to the SW universe is intriguing, and the result may be a more gritty, down-to-earth experience. Some will love that approach; some will hate it.

Well that does seem to fit Disney's shift to a "licensing model", so I'd speculate that the odds have improved.

Linear vs non linear story
rjshae replied to Malekith's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Non-linearity should be easier to implement near the end than near the beginning. So perhaps mostly linear at the start, semi-linear in the mid-game, then a weighted non-linear end game. -
To me, specialization based on weapon usage style makes more sense: Swing vs. thrust vs. hybrid Fast/very fast vs. slow One-handed vs. two-handed Solid shaft vs. hinged or flexible Hurled vs. projected vs. gunpowder/magic Specialization in a specific weapon would be okay, but I think it should have a prerequisite of two or more of the above.

Susan Wilson's Kickstarter discussion (split topic)
rjshae replied to babaganoosh13's topic in Computer and Console
Actually a male artist, just a very feminine one. But talented either way; Bloom deserves more support. Oops, sorry. Thought I saw a 'she' in there somewhere. No matter. Definitely loving the art though. -
You might have to pay for higher shipping costs, depending on which contribution you select....

An idea that has been a long time in coming... Professional MP3 Background Loops for Role-playing Games11 seems like too small a number though.

I doubt horses or any other mounts would fit in with the combat system in this type of game. Maybe for NPCs in towns or something but definitely not for players. Yeah I tried to promote the idea early on... then got my keester handed to me by the angry mob. Still like the idea of facing mounted foes though. Nothing like a courser-mounted knight with a lance to provoke some pointed arguments...

I watched this mind-blowing video demo last night of the next generation facial rendering technology (shown at the Nvidia GPU Tech Conference). The really interesting part starts at about 8:40 if you want to skip the discussion of the uncanny valley. http://www.vg247.com/2013/03/20/nvidia-tech-demo-shows-off-new-face-works-tech/ Now all I need is a Titan blade server that can do 2 teraflops.

Watched the Skyrim video -- spent half the film trying to figure out why Bond's chest wound kept switching sides...

Hmm, what are they doing with a painting of our Thanksgiving leftovers?

I fail to see the humour in this one. I've watched it 7 times now. Maybe if I watch it an 8th time I might get it No, she... I mean it... isn't funny at all. (Watching again...)

Soul Scholars -- a group of individuals who investigate the heritage of intact souls, seeking a legacy of their interactions and the prophesying the direction of their influence. They may have developed certain elaborate magical tools that aid them in their craft, and their efforts may be funded by wealthy patrons seeking to justify their potential noble stature by demonstrating a royal status in their past lives. The scholars also maintain elaborate histories to trace the heritage of families far back in time. Some swindlers will pose as Soul Scholars in order to profit from the trade. Indeed, true Soul Scholars may offer tempting rewards for those who expose such parasites to their trade.

Why would they want to attract younger gamers? We older gamers have more disposable income and our money is just as good as anyone else. Are they expecting a sudden die off of over 35's? Should I be worried? Probably because attracting younger gamers means disposable income 10-20 years down the road. Hobbies die off because of a failure to attract younger members. (Remember tabletop wargaming?)

Yes. Turn-based makes more sense when you're controlling multiple characters or have complex magic systems.

In tabletop RPG news: Freeport: the City of Adventure for Pathfinder: just passed it's goal of $50K. Achtung! for Call of Cthulhu: currently at 1,513% of goal! Throne of Night for Pathfinder: at 60% of goal. Wicked Fantasy for Pathfinder: succeeded at 933%. The Guide to Glorantha: succeeded at 714%. Nice to see the hobby is alive and well.
