  1. That could be a valid concern, I quite frankly am not familiar with how hard/easy it would be to switch to new engine. But if it isnt to much of a hassle I dont see a reason to not make it into best game that it can be. That's basically like asking "How hard is it to make a car from scratch?" There's a reason why most games use a pre-existing engine. Dragon Age from BioWare is actually an anomaly as both DA1 and DA2 used new engines. DA3 used Frostbite. A game using a new engine is a big deal.
  2. ?? You're arguing like one. The sprites look better than they did in the infinity engine games. (which means: more than we asked for) The only thing about them that isn't a flat out improvement is their animations, but that doesn't have anything to do with the engine. Also you're not going to get that PS:T look unless the game has bizzaro NPCs. No one looked normal in PS:T, and that was the design goal. The whole point was to make them artsy instead of realistic. As for Physics. No. It's simply not that kind of game. Physics work great in 3d environments, but they'll look silly in an Iso-view game with pre-rendered hand painted 2d environments. Asking to not have butt ass ugly characters that poke you in the eyes like Wasteland 2 has them, is not being a graphical whore, wanting game to just look OK is all I ask, Dungeon Siege III did it in 2011. As far as physics goes, I just faintly recall it being mentioned so that is why I brought it, sure this game doesn't have to be nor will it be Diablo 3. The graphics have 100% nothing to do with the engine. Your issue is with the art and modeling department.
  3. The problem with old school UIs is that they were trying to mimic PnP in a visual medium. It just did not work.
  4. From what I understand, a different dev team is making DI2. Techland is making Dying Light because they didn't like the direction that the publisher wanted them to take with their second game. Interesting. Dying Light does seem to have more life in it: I like the gameplay but think the world design is horrible.
  5. That is not an accurate representation of the Griffith Park area, let alone Los Angeles, as a whole. I'm assuming they were on Mulholland or Ledgewood. But still not a very good design.
  6. I say we just send Chris more booze. All the booze.
  7. Having the backer beta on my birthday was good enough. We can't stress them.
  8. Winner winner chicken dinner. Oh also I'm an acheevo whore.
  9. Lazy devs. Probably spending your development budget on WRONG THINGS.
  10. Public beta? The conversation was about the linux version of the game and beta. As far as I know there are no plans to open up the beta to folks who haven't bought in. I see.
  11. Desu desu kawaiii, Krieger-san. I'd like a version of the Shadowrun game that didn't suck. Jordan Weisman went through hell getting that license back. I don't see Hairebrained farming it out anytime soon.
  12. It should be available at the same time (barring unforeseen problems). It is running pretty well right now. Any ETA on the beta? Some time next week is our target. Can't be more specific than that right now. Oh God, I'm bracing myself for the flurry of posts for the public beta.
  13. Agreed. Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I wouldn't care if BioWare stuck to that formula all the time (which they usually do), so long as their execution works. Hell, that's fantasy in general.
  14. Banner Saga + WL2 + Shovel Knight are my tops of the first wave.
  15. I don't know, that meeting seemed almost too boring... it almost made making video games seem like work....
  16. I love how people are acting like BioWare's problem is that they are reusing the Hero's Journey, and not the fact that the execution stinks.
  17. I'm fine with a game telling me I can't do this or that without the proper DLC, but for Dear Christ, at least mask it well.
  18. I've often mulled this over: Is sex part of the storytelling if its what you, the player, chooses as a completely optional path?
  19. Um.... That was the point of the Telltale Games system. So.... just don't play it?
  20. Yeah, Disney is going to give their IPs to bigger studios.
  21. I'm waiting on all the major holidays to pop the acheevs.
  22. Post-production is what I think you mean. It's been in production since the first work began.
