  1. Itbis still a boring game. I just cant progress the side maps and might just gi to the final missikn and skip 3 large areas and 5 dragon fights....
  2. I comeback to check on the forums and I see my thread is 15+ pages, mainly discussion about romance lol. What have I started! You used the word "love" in the title. It's all your fault!!!
  3. Technically you are correct but i have yet to see a game with inflated numbers that would not be a mindless grind fest with painfully obvious gear checks... gear overshadows skill builds and levels and is used to fuel all dmg abiluties including spells.
  4. You type only or use some voice chat as well?
  5. thx, I will check it out. any chance to "watch" your next session to get a feel of it?
  6. Sure. I can dig it. First decide what's the base for the romance. Is it tied to the basic needs and instincts like desire to have sex and flirt built around it or you want to build up and speak about love in the more profound way. Personally i dont care about romances as long as they dont annoy me with in the face approach like DA2. (Sanders!). It will always be a very poor subsitute if any for the real life reactions. You cant mimic body language, touch, smell etc. so it is already subpar in that regard. To me romance in game is as needed as alcochol... sure i wont mind but I see no use for it for it delivers no taste. A virtual glass of wine will not make you taste the wine. The game however can convey the sense of adventure with the good story and environment build, and can provide a fun gameplay experience. Romance belongs to neither of the two.
  7. Two points: If you want to get romance in provide the data that supports it. Show that it considerably affects the sales and level of enjoyment across all the population or at least 50% of cRPG buyers. Definitions are short. Have you seen an encyclopedia entry long for 4 paragraphs? Get key features in and then you can discuss if its accurate or not. So far objectively we know that one vocal minority wants romances and another does not for various subjective reasons. *shrug* personally i see better options for the use of the limited money.
  8. Also I don't think we need to lower our standard of communication because people battle to read and comprehend a few paragraphs. I like reading long posts if they are relevant to the discussion ..and I'm not that clever. So if I can focus on a relatively long post I'm sure others can handle it It is actually not lowering but improving the standards... concise and to the point is the standard in the high business and most presentations. Research papers are a different beast but they are treated as a source to which you refer during making your point.
  9. Next thing i will see will be spell and ability dmg derived from the dps of the weapon... (sic!)
  10. If the inflated numders are real then unfortunately i will pass it. I do not need another mmo clone gameplay wise.
  11. These walls of text are just unreadable in succession... you guys need to learn how to make your points in 150 words maximum... otherwise its just 4 ppl going circular with wall after wall effectively discouraging any new potential contributor to the debate...
  12. Actually i disagree. NWN was a good design decision. It was the writing that was bad. The modular tileset 3D environment created best user made worlds/campaigns up to date. Combat animations were better. Hero models were better. You traded nice 2D environment for less pretty 3D environment, BUT you had free rotating camera 3 axis to compensate for that. (The only shame is no flight in the game and using 3rd axis less than good)
  13. Video games in general are puerile sorts of adolescent wish fulfillment. Do you think games eg CoD, GTA, FIFA, etc. are any easier to take seriously when put besides RL? Games aren't life experience simulators. I don't think what people want out of video game romances is 'serious RL relationships,' just as I don't think what people want out of GTA is a 'serious simulation' of what it is to be an organized crime boss/inner city gangster. In fact, fantasy/sci-fi themed RPGs, even further so than games eg GTA and CoD, are all about wish fulfillment. Archetypal fantasy RPGs are variations on the Hero's Journey, while in counter-current RPGs, it's about being a gritty bad ass eg the fantasy equivalent of Noir anti-heroes. In both cases, the game world, narrative, characters, etc. revolve around the PC. Whether it's Commander Shepard, the Nameless One, the Knight Captain, etc., the PC's role is eternally that of the MVP, the alpha-protagonist, the axial-character. To this end, it's difficult - on the surface - to understand why there's a double standard regarding 'wish fulfillment' in video game romances vs. 'wish fulfillment' in video games at large. You're fine with being the hero who saves the world, but not the guy who gets the girl? <replace at will with personal gender preference>. Never mind the fact that in RL, a hero who saves the world is liable to have suitors tripping over each other, the disproportionate resistance people have towards 'wish fulfillment' in romantic relationships is quite illogical when you take into account how little resistance they have towards 'wish fulfillment' in other aspects of the game. Is it cultural? After all, the Japanese, known for their dating sims & wishful-thinking romances in games, do not look to be afflicted with the same double standard. Indeed, Eastern pop-media, on average, have little inhibition when it comes to fantastic 'wish fulfillment' romantic scenarios. But in that case, what is it about Western culture, exactly, that makes it so difficult for us to entertain such scenarios with a straight face? I ask this not specifically of you, but of all the people - including myself - who, over the years, have expressed the exact same distaste about 'wish fulfillment' in video game romances. It's not occurred to me till recently how fundamentally hypocritical - and culturally conditioned - such an attitude is. Because to me it is just stupid. It has bad writing so cannot be fun on that aspect. Adds nothing to the story. And is 100000000 times worse than porn at attempts of arousing so why would i want someone to wast time and mo ey on something failing on 3 aspects that are important? Better use it on other parts of the game.
  14. Most likely its about the money and revenue sharing. Bio has its own milk cows and obs just got a new own homemafe ip on their hands. Usually when you dont know what is it about, it is about the money.
  15. To me 3.5 seemed the best but the again i only had a brief contact with 2ed rules and up to this date did not bother to crunch the mechanics behind spells and most saving throws. I left 2ed to crpgs :D I would be willing to give 5th ed a try though. 4ed for me does not exist.
  16. Funnily enough greek mythology holds one of the most varied collection of stories. I guess most rip off from them
  17. although I admit I loved going through old Duke Nukem 3D with my cousin on direct connection cable near 15 years ago or slightly more, and later on System Shock 2 with MP mod. But playing in the same room a really good game had its unique appeal recreated only in the late night sessions of various games in the internet caffes with half a dozen of friends and bear&pizza all night sessions
  18. Hi Darkpriest. We're playing 21:00 CET on every saturday. we're currently switching between our numenera campaign, and random one-off wushu sessions when we feel like it. I can't speak for the others, but I'm sure you're welcome to join in. hmm thanks for info, I have little to no idea about those settings, so would need some more stuff on it. I just used to play DnD sessions several years ago and long time ago Warhammer RPG sessions. Would appreciate some introduction to the systems and settings, could you provide links that you think have the best comprehensive information package?
  19. HMm I was wondering, is it still going? Is there a chance to join a group? How active you are?
  20. depends. i have an unhealthy fix for DotA and now DotA2, but I also simply need good Single player games, mostly RPGs and TBS/RTS, a good shooter once in a while is nice too. so my list comprise of titles like: DotA Starcraft Dawn of War Company of Heroes Baldurs Gate (1/2) Icewind Dale (1/2) Planescape:Torment Wasteland 2 X-COM:EW (Long War) Civilization series Total War series Divinity: Original Sin Diablo 2/3 Mass Effect series (FPS light) Wolfenstein The New Order MiddleEarth: Shadow of Mordor Heroes of Might and Magic series Might and Magic series SimCity DeusEx:HR (tried System Shock 2 recently but the seriously outdated graphics is just too much even though it is still a very good game ) The Witcher series Fallouts 1/2 and New Vegas (even though I hate the TPP combat) and quite a few more with similar concepts and well designed
  21. Start at around the 2:00 minute mark for the relevant tidbits. C'mon MCA HK-47, tell us how you really feel about meatbag romance.
  22. Btw when someone starts a new romance discussion they should get linked to this priceless HK reaction to "romances" like paraphrased Bastilla. It was pure gold.
  23. I love triangles, especially the love triangles.if you know what i mean (I simply could not resist)
