11 people killed at a French satirical Newspaper
Darkpriest replied to Meshugger's topic in Way Off-Topic
Well... to some this might be a shock, but to be honest it was just a matter of time and things like these will re-appear unfortunately, different place, different country, but not so distant future. To me one thing stands out as a bit odd, but this will be verified in next couple of weeks. It is a strange coincidence, that this happens shortly after Russia got their Mistrals delivery canceled by France. It does not look like "typical" terrorist work, due to little collateral damage and use of fire arms instead of explosives, use of "hit&run" unlike regular hit & create lot of noise. We will have a lot of media coverage in coming days focused on the topic of ISIS and terrorist, taking away focus from other parts of the world and giving a chance to "shine" to others as compassionate and helpful. This might also lead to more in UE crisis, demonstrations etc, We've already seen what retard 'muslim" mobs can do while rioting in France or other EU countries. It will be interesting couple of days/weeks, but of course it might be a regular terrorist attack. However, these people had good military training, and they had surprisingly good "intelligence" - building layout, precise knowledge of their targets, etc. -

while i think that animations could be better considering 3d models and what we've seen in other real time games with non-super detailed combatants of various scales, implying that mods do their job bad or similar, does not provide a bright future for this thread. -
The collapse of the western civilization, part 2
Darkpriest replied to Wrath of Dagon's topic in Way Off-Topic
Meh I do not worry that much that I will see this in my life tme, but I will most likely see the start of big crisis and more small conflicts. All great states and empires were built on ruthlessness and might and collapsed when their citizens became too rich, too lazy and generally too soft, the other spectrum has simply failed attempts, lie Nazi Germany. If they would not attack Russia in 42', probably we would be speaking now German all across western EU and Russian in Eastern EU and Balkans. look at the beginnings of such states, like Macedon Empire, Roman Empire, Arabic Califats, even look upon what the strength of US was built. land grab and genocide + slavery. and then look what led to collapse of the previous great "states". History repeats itself and it will keep doing that until we will doscover that we are not alone in the universe or until we will find a way to colonize distant worlds. -
Well Star Citizen is a bit different, it's more of a space Persistent World, the combat will be there, but is it really the main selling point or rather the career of Freelancer/Privateer ? No Man's Sky has odd graphics for me, and it does not have the climate of Star Wars TIE fighters squadron or imperial battlecrusiers. It seems to also lack a climate of a Wing Commander... ehh... Give me some really nicely narrated SP campaign, with some Co-op possibilities and MP deathmatches. I do not need more Open Space persistent galaxies MMOs. Elite and Star Citizen will cover that part. On the RPG / action RPG I would not mind some game set up in StarTrek or Stargate universe... there are gazzilons of possibilities of good narratives and good RPGs or even action RPGs for these licenses. I would love to know adventures of some other SG units or other explorations spaceships. Bah, I could even dig a good Warhammer or WH40k game in those styles.

hmm... so what view is Diablo 3? or Dawn of War? RTS game from 2008-2009 could do good 3D models real time animations an finishers... just a couple of them. Sure that they might be some limitations because of the 2D background, but lets get real, we are dealing with 3D models here... not 2D sprites... right? -

Until something is a part of a real life, it can be represented and even ridiculed by the laws of artistic freedom and freedom of speech in any media, including games. As long as it does not break the laws about the "hate speech" it's fine, so by that definition GTA is fine and it is buyer's consent if he wants to get this media or not. Do not force onto other people your beliefs and your vision of what you think should be in media or not. Ultimately consumers evaluate the product and if they deemed it bad or offensive they won't buy it. PERIOD. -

well i did not read the article, BUT it is already visible in western EU, the most "tolerant" and wealthy at the same parts, that the immigrants from middle east and africa have around 4-7 kids per family while the native eu families have 0-2. There are already regions where so called minorities are actually majorities and they do want to import their cultural laws and bestow them on the others in the regions where they are majorities. There were some funny articles from 2012 about a part of Denmark. I could not find a reliable English one, and I can't translate myself. Maybe some ppl here can tell more about it? http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Indland/2012/11/07/042932.htm?app To be honest, i think we moved a bit too far in tolerance. Tolerance should be a two way street, not a one way abusive way of getting privileges, while in the country of origins your kinsmen are despising foreigners and their culture and individual spiritual/religious beliefs. -
@up, tbh, nothing special, but different ppl different tastes

ehhh people tend to forget that gaming industry IS business... so money earned = success... it is the same with movies... no one in general public cares about maybe even some nice low budget movies with ambitious goals of putting forward some vision and message (because they are targeted to a narrow audience), they care about movies like Hobbit. Big with an "oomph" and loading pockets with dollah. to say that a commercially successful game was a failure, is a bit unreal... it might have been, like in a case of DA2, where it clearly affected the past launch sales figures and amount of DLCs sold, but Skyrim is not in that area. It's just targeted for another audience than you or me. ( I found it super boring, even when I bought the GOTY with all the DLCs for 30% of original price)

The Official Romance Thread

Hideous dwarves? Nice elven butts? Consider your character's appearance? We definitely don't want you writing them then. You do realize microprocessors can't have an "opinion" of human aesthetics. use an attribute score? also.. it can... to a certain point. there are studies about human aesthetics and preferences. -
The Official Romance Thread
Darkpriest replied to Blarghagh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I dislike romances for a lot of reasons and i voiced that multiple times. romances are trivial push "abc" to sex virtual pixels that are hotter than whatever you had chance to date in your life for a bunch of losers. You want to make romances believable, fine, then make the NPCs have their clear preference. Make them even consider the looks of the character which you created. don't make the NPCs shallow in this regard. for example a certiain female might have a thing for warrior males that act like sons-of-b... but another guy might be falling into a male that is of elven origin and has more poetic nature, when talking and dealing with the troubles and quests. If I can F. anyone as anyone doing anything as long as I push "abc" then the romance is a failure... Sure, limited preferences would mean, that certain characters created by a player would never get a shot at a certain romance, for example a hideous bad mannered dwarf will not get a night out with that nice elven ass, then well, tough to be you, n reality such things as rejections happen too and it would be a really nice touch to put such thing in the game to make the characters more believable, and then even the dialog writing for specific scenarios can be better, instead of race and gender plain generalized text sequences after "a / b / c" hits.... -
Not GG related, but Malala Yousafzai is a badass. on another note, one more from that list “What we are now doing with the victory, and I agree with you if you condemn that and I condemn whole-heartedly the trivial bull**** it is to go after a man who makes a scientific breakthrough and all that we as women — organized women — do is to fret about his shirt?” Hirsi Ali said, referring to the controversy generated by the shirt featuring cartoons of scantily-clad women worn by the scientist who helped land a robot on a comet. “We must reclaim and retake feminism from our fellow idiotic women.”

anyone remember NWN combat animations? wasn't that RTwP? The Neverwinter Nights games used fake animations. They weren't a reflection of what really happened. but it looked alive and it was fairly accurate. when the character got hit, it got hit. -

TB or not it does not really matter, I would argue that TB combat can have much better combat animations, interactions and finishers than real time, because in realtime you wan to have animations fairly plain and played fast so they do not mess too much with the real time animations and multiple calculations ( i will take an example of RTS Dawn of War - where people sometimes complained about too long combat finishers and thus made them unable to change orders efficiently and on the other hand a game like XCOM implemented some nice combat finishers, for example berserker or chryssalid attacks ending with death, or MEC killing mech units and berserkers) -
Watched the latest Hobbit recently. Hobbit really lacks some memorable characters, sometimes they have their moments, but unlike LotR the Hobbit movie did not deliver on showing the "sauce" of the characters. The movie has it moments though. I really liked the entry of the dwarves and the initial opening by the warboar riding leader I also liked seeing dwarves in actual battle as it was first and last time we actually saw them in the whole series. Also, headbutting armored orcs is 100% legit if you are a dwarf :D I liked the movie, but I am sad, that the most memorable parts of it will be the battle at Dol Guldur and the shield wall formation of the dwarves with the initial clash.

I don't agree with this logic, the West gave these countries the chance to implement there own versions of Democracy. In some cases, like Iraq, they failed to do this. We can't live in a world where we say " yes brutal dictators are acceptable because they are able to manage complicated and historical sectarian conflicts within there countries" The US gov acted like a naive retard, disregarding over 4000 years of cultural development in that region and all the things tied to it. It should have never interfered in the first place and help put Israel back on the map after WW2. Then they've made a first step in the huge swamp, and each and every step since then, just makes things worse... eventually it will lead to drowning, or someone reasonable has a safe line back to pull back from there completely for 100years and IGNORE and ISOLATE the region for that time so they will fix things there in accordance to their 4k yrs of development and traditions. Americans need to understand that what they value might be meaningless for others. there are huge conceptual, behavioral and cultural differences between Americas and EU from which they originate, due to the type of people who were pioneers and their vision. Lets not even start comparing thousands old cultures like middle east and china... I know that short term dollar losses seem awful, but in the long run it might be something that will prevent from seizure and death of the "style of life" (that or you just stop toying around and play nice, and just bomb the region into oblivion and repopulate, but then we talk genocide)

"barbarians" ... was it a nation that destroyed the Rome or Rome's own decadency and mix of nations within the empire? The only reason US became the powerhouse in the mid 1900s' is was the continental isolation.
