  1. Interesting, both DFA and WL2 had a spike in backers around day 16-19. This happened when WL2 announced their Obsidian parthership and DFA announced new goodies. I wonder if PE will manage to get a mid-spike like that too.

I liked Dawn and especially Agua Azul, nice stuff Also liked the first minute of "A TV Show - Mystery" and 0:13 - 0:25 of "Another TV Show - SWAT", they could probably be turned into great songs, although not necessarily fit into Project Eternity! I hope we don't only hear movie-like songs in the game though, that fits nicely in the background of the game, but have some melody friendly songs too that players happily hum on afterwards ^_^ (especially various character themes if there are any, they should really jump out of the depth and grab the player). A little rant here, sorry, but I think it's a bit unfortunate that video game soundtracks gotten more and more movie-like for about a decade. Less focus is put on melodies and instead the ambience get more focus. I think the original Deus Ex and the sequel Invisible War are somewhat the prime example of this. Same composer for both games, but very different soundtracks. The original Deus Ex had a somewhat classic video game soundtrack, lots of melodies. The second game is much more like a movie soundtrack, lots of ambience and chords and not many melodies at all. I think this is a somewhat unfortunate development. And now, a decade later, people still talk about the original Deus Ex soundtrack being excellent while Invisible War barely gets a nod. And now I'm just gonna end this with a song that I think is absolutely wonderful, and have a great hum friendly melody, a piano remake of a song from HeroQuest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmuKGghzxeA
  3. I hope that doesn't mean too much micro management, and that they can handle their inventories on their own if you so please. Or better yet, have a large shared party inventory, instead of being split between multiple characters.
  4. The only "oomph" I want from a critical hit, besides doing more damage of course, is a more deeper sound effect than a normal attack.
  5. I've played them all, but I didn't enjoy them that much, especially not the IWD games. The main reason why I disliked them is mainly because of the D&D rules, I never been a fan of those being used in computer games. Planescape: Torment is the exception to this though, as you could avoid a fair chunk of combat. This is a bit unfortunate, I remember buying BG1 back when it was released, and being super hyped about it, reading the manual about the charisma stat and being very hyped about that too. But the charisma stat doesn't really matter much in the game, and I found the combat to be dreadfully boring. Everything else was nice though, but it was really dragged down by these two things for me.
  6. Justin Bell will probably do a nice job with it. I don't really care much for the intro music of the KS video, I felt it was somewhat bland, but the calm harp part which was played in the background during the talking was rather nice. I've always liked calm music more than epic music. Stuff like , , , (especially after 2:30) and so on. And I'm really a sucker for nice harp parts. Anyway, I hope there will be a lot of music that use the harp and choirs Not to say that epic music doesn't have it's places though, of course it do. It's just rare I'm impressed or pleased by it, often I feel it's either way overused or that it just serve it's purpose and that's about it. The epic game soundtracks that impressed me the most in the past couple of years are both japanese games, Shadow of the Colossus and Nier. Nier is probably also the most impressive game soundtrack of this console generation as far as I'm concerned. I think it's brilliantly amazing, with both excellent calm and epic tracks, like (bit repetetive but that's hardly on your mind during the boss battle!) Also, I would probably be rather disappointed if it was Jeremy Soule was to do the music I find his music to be rather boring, and that's putting things nicely. He did surprise me a bit with the Skyrim soundtrack though, I very much like Secunda. And Inon Zur I consider to be even worse, not a bad composer really, can't think of any bad tracks, but at the same time I can't think of a single track by him that I felt was better than "ok". The Fallout 3 and Dragon Age: Origin soundtracks did nothing to me, at all. Very impressive Aye, I very much agree with this post. If there is one area where japanese RPGs usually are quite superior to western RPGs, it's the efforts put into the soundtracks. I mean, it's not unusual a JRPG soundtrack is on 4 CDs or so, created by several in-house composers. While it seems like many western game developers seem to have a sort of a "oh yeah, the game is finished soon, I guess we also need a soundtrack? Let's hire a guy to make a few tracks and call it a day" mentality. The Morrowind soundtrack was absolutely horrible as far as I'm concerned, in multiple ways. For example, how can you let the game play relatively happy cheery explore music in a place that is supposed to be a scary creepy dungeon? I actually composed 3 tracks (and plenty of unfinished ones!) to use for exploration in Morrowind with a now ancient Roland XP-50 and SR-JV Orchestral expansionboard, cause I felt the Soule soundtrack was so limiting. Although the website that hosted those died some years ago they are no longer available online. But yeah, an excellent RPG soundtrack need a lot of tracks to fit a lot of different situations. I hope the Project Eternity soundtrack will do this

  8. Ken Rolston, game designer for a bunch of games and more recently Oblivion and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning feel that voices are horrible for RPGs.
  9. Map notes are great, like if I stumble upon a chest I can't open yet. Then I can just mark it and remember to re-visit it later when my lockpicking skill is better or whatever.
  10. Aye, Luca Blight is arguably my favorite video game villain (also very fond of SHODAN). I also like villains where you really can see their point of view and even sympathise with them, even if you know what they are doing is very wrong for obvious reasons (like Dagoth Ur from Morrowind, there's some great backstory lore there).
  11. Humor is awesome, but there can be an annoying amount of humor too so nothing extreme. A companion that say nothing but jokes all the time becomes a bore for me rather quickly, for example. There's a time and place for everything, including humor.
  12. I hope the boxes doesn't cost much to make, I rather see the kickstarter money spent on developing a game rather than making user goodies. I read about some kickstarter a while ago, and it was just a "minor" game kickstarter that got about $36,000 or whatever it was, but it was more than their goal so they were pleased. And even at that amount they totally underestimated the amount of logistics work and time needed to do to ship everything and so on, and the cost of the goodies. So at the end of it, they didn't really get that much money for making the actual kickstarter project come true.

Well, using the daily fundings data from this page (and skipping the last day since it's probably not from a full day) I just made a projection graph thingy with Graph and got that after 32 days it should reach $2,676 million. This obviously doesn't include various spikes caused by news, updates or in particular the big spike it will most likely receive the last day or two, so it's by no means a final number, but I dare to say it's the minimum number.
  14. Indeed, the projection graph should look more like a quadratic equation graph with a little bump at the end. They will probably reach $2,5 million, but I will be a bit surprised if they go above $3 million. And any higher than $3,5 is pretty much out of the question. Someone should make a quadratic equation projection graph based on the information we now have. Maybe I do it myself later when I got time.
  15. They been using level scaling far longer than 7 years, Morrowind was released in 2002 and had level scaling too. Not as excessive level scaling as in Oblivion, but level scaling non the less. I think level scaling is a lot more common than some people here seem to realise, it was in BG1 & BG2 too, as Stun explained 2 posts up.
  16. Yeah, a party inventory is very nice. I found it very annoying in the IE games that you had to micromanage and split the general inventory items between the party member slots all the time.
  17. The sleep to gain spells system from DnD is one of the main reasons why I feel the DnD ruleset is horribly unfit for a computer RPG and not something I want to see here. The ruleset is easily the thing I dislike the most in BG, Planescape: Torment and so on.
  18. The worst thing about the lack of level scaling is that it makes the world feel really artificial, at least to me. By some strange coincidence the enemies just happens to be stronger and stronger in the world the way the player needs to move to progress the story further. And by sheer luck the weakest enemies just happens to be where the game starts. It's like this red line thru the game where enemies just get progressively stronger. And at the same time, really strong level scaling can ruin the game immersion greatly, as seen with Oblivion. Although it didn't for the original Mass Effect, which I found a bit interesting, seeing they both pretty much use the same extreme level scaling. Anyway, none of the poll options really suit me, or so I feel, so I didn't vote.
  19. I really don't like the IE inventory system, so I hope they use something else. There's too much micromanagement involved with that and you spent too much time with not on your inventory, but the inventory of the other party members as well.
  20. I can't say I think this is pleasant news. I'm guessing this means it will be a 2D engine like the Infinity Engine, which I'm not that fond of anymore. I much prefer a 3D game like NWN where you can rotate and zoom the camera and have the game overview you want.
