Why must you oppose Raedric VII?
Karkarov replied to Luckmann's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The chick in the dungeons diddling all the undead. -
champion of berath
Karkarov replied to wpmaura's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Personally I am wondering how I missed this quest. Berath wanted me to whack a tree hugger and a loony tune not Raedric..... for the second time. -
So there is no good ending?

What they said. Also let's not forget, Thaos had already fired up the machine with all those souls. While it would have been nice to take an hour or two to play with Thaos brain you only have so long before he is getting sucked into the machine or back into the cycle. Not only that but you didn't come to lobotomize him, you went there to stop his plans and free the souls one way or the other. People think it is sloppy writing that leaves a lot of this open to interpretation. I think it is excellent writing and developer intent. They want you to consider the questions and implications of what the story says. Is a God actually a God if man made him? Does being man made make a God less than they are? Is belief in a thing more important than whether or not it is actually true? You can't just write all this crap out in clear black and white answers and put a bow on it. There are no answers and that's the point. -
Why must you oppose Raedric VII?
Karkarov replied to Luckmann's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It isn't that big a deal to me. When you realize he murdered his own wife in cold blood for pretty much no reason any chance of my initial character playing nice with him went out the window. Of course I wasn't going to play by "hey kill my cousin for me so I can just take over and muck it up worse" Kolsc's rules. So I offed him too. Too bad Raedric is down with undeadyness. -
Well that was disappointing (The End)
Karkarov replied to Floki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The amount of people who played pillars of eternity knowing what it was going in yet paid no attention to the story and clearly grasped none of the dialog is always surprising. if you bothered actually listening Iovara made it clear she wasn't sure she did the right things, or that she was correct, nor did she deny they exist. Her only point was they are not "gods" in the sense that they were not created before time, are not omniscient, and were created by man. She never denied they existed or that they were powerful. -
Well Cipher is OP as hell to be sure. In my playthrough by the end as a cipher with GM most fights only lasted a few seconds. I could do that massive aoe level 5 skill 4 times outright and very very few groups could survive it. This makes me happy I play on GoG though, I don't have to stare at achievements seeming to imply how I should play the game. In the end though needing bugs and summon spam only proves that no.... you can't solo the game. Solo implies one character, not one character and his 9 summon friends with bug abuse. Either way I doubt hardly anyone has those achievements so well played Indira.

It isn't possible, a forced conversation happens if the dragon takes over and when the conversation ends there is a forced segway as the dragon walks off. So you never get a chance to initiate combat. but if you talk to her it says that the body is soulles If you take the amulet, get the dragon soul in it, but then don't go through with the plan the amulet shatters. This frees the dragons soul but if you head back you arrive before the dragon has found it's way back into it's body. So it is "soulless" but only because it's soul hasn't arrived yet. The dragon also has a slight debuff and is a little weaker in this state... go fig. Additionally scale breaker is great for killing dragons.

Lul. In all seriousness "Raider" is typically used to describe pirates, vikings, or other people who rush in, kill everything, and loot lots of time by way of a boat. There is a reason the NFL team the "Raiders" logo is a pirate wearing a football helmet. A highwayman on the other hand is just a bandit who ambushes people on the road, they don't tend to rape, pillage, work in large groups, or go out looking for people. They just hide on the road and wait for easy targets to walk by. They aren't similar at all .

So there is no good ending?
Karkarov replied to Ouroboros226's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well that's the gag. The gods ARE real. They just aren't actual gods, they are entities created through a massive ritual where thousands of souls were fused together with singular intent. This also explains why the Engwithans disappeared overnight.... because their whole society was sacrificed to create the "Gods". Personally I sent the souls back to the wheel since the only thing we know for sure is the wheel is the natural order and it existed before the gods did. As a result it seemed like the most logical thing to do, though I could see going with Wael's plan since it takes the most out of the gods hands and puts it to chance. -
But... option 3?

In all honesty I don't see any of the companions appearing in future games other than as footnote mentions or maybe a cameo. Most of them have clear cut and dry endings with no room for deviation. My Eder is mayor of Dyrford, GM is camped at the birthing bell for no reason, Kana became a professor, none of them have any reason to be off adventuring with me in Eternity 2. Maybe Durance can pop up again... and maybe Aloth. That's about it. I would like to see the next game take place in Readceras myself and deal with Eothas returning.... or is that really him? Dun dun dun and all that.

It is a lore thing guys, seriously. Every culture has one unique background except for I think Ruatai maybe? Raider is only for deadfire because Deadfire is home mostly to pirates and similar type guys. Scientist is only in living lands because tons of scientists go there to explore the ecology, so on so forth. Can't you just make do with mercenary, or go ahead and be from Deadfire?

But... option 3?
Karkarov replied to ibanix's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
A nice third route would have been taking the kid and returning them to the Fisher Crane tribe.... If there is a way to do it in game I didn't find it. -
I agree but the whole idea was so repulsive I was overcome with temporary insanity. Of course someone may have taken my Aerie mod crack seriously too so who knows....

Why hate being a watcher?
Karkarov replied to Nonor_Battlehammer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Being a Watcher would be fine, if he wasn't also awakened and force to see his own old soul. -
Fair enough Let's mod in Aerie and have her get in a life or death fight with GM over who gets to raise the baby.

Main Character Story
Karkarov replied to delphs's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It triggers his memory because his distant past life self had unresolved issues with Thaos and recognized him instantly bringing that past life to the forefront. In addition the biawac hitting at the same time as the memory issue plus the explosion from the engwithan machine probably caused your soul to disjoint and almost fully awakened that old personality. AKA: you became awakened and in such a strong way it turned you into a watcher. -
Let his niece go, told her to go into hiding with the priests on the edge of town. As a cipher I cleansed her of all the whack job nonsense the skaenites did myself and even wiped her memory of her uncle raping her. Skaenites I left dead and buried. Uncle Lord Jerkwad I personally took care of..... if you get what I am saying. By the end of the game let's just say the people of Dyrford REALLY liked me.

Uh did you play the game? Durance is like the LAST guy in the party that would convert into being an Eothasian. The idea that he would want to enter into a romance considering how self centered and arrogant he is also sort of seems unlikely. If I ranked the male companions on a scale of 1 to 10 on their likelihood to be a good romance option at all he would rank like a -10. Even Hiravias is a better candidate for a romance mod.
-
I am not sure I agree. If you really get to know Durance you will come to realize he is not "moral" by any stretch of the word. He admits he helped create the Godhammer in part out of ego cause he thought he was "special". He participated and in fact lead/encouraged Eothasian purges. He clearly thinks very little of women, animancers, hates watchers by default unless they prove themselves super strong/resilient, and is thoroughly rude and hateful even to followers of his own faith. When he weighs in on party banter he pretty much always encourages you to choose violent/confrontational reactions. He is pretty easy to fit into the "evil" box.

So, the plot.
Karkarov replied to Stargazer86's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
This isn't true. That is what happened in your game, but that is not necessarily the only option. In my game Eder moved to Dyrford and dedicated himself to helping others and getting a fresh start on his life. He wanted to spread the values he grew up with and did it on his own terms. Over time he became the mayor of Dyrford, expanded the town, and ultimately it became the new "Gilded Vale" and entered a period of real prosperity ceasing to be some wilderness town. That's some pretty solid closure for Eder in my game, he moved on with his life and made his own way. Too bad Durance turned into a rag wearing penniless lunatic searching for revenge against his favorite whore, which we all know he is never going to get.
