Keys ? When ?
Karkarov replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
People keep saying this but who are you talking about ;p? Even if they are, who cares? The game isn't 50 gigs and you can't play it until the 26th preload or not. -
Backers beta going to change in to Full Game?
Karkarov replied to GrayAngel's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
They are "supposed" to be sent so that they arrive on release day. The discs then get mailed out later. That said we will see. -
well you only get 6 party members. Having no tank will be .... hard to put it in a word. I would suggest not running with 4 rangers unless you have no other choice.

Nice try buddy, not watching any of that tripe!

..... You understand your post simply reinforces what I just said. Most gaming is done on a tv, not a pc monitor. Thus gaming is still centered around the idea that you are playing at 1080 on your couch through your television. Where your own link says why 72ppi is enough. It doesn't matter to me, I can change it will just make the mod download that much larger. But I seriously doubt it is going to effect any percentage of people playing or that many of you will even be able to tell the difference.

I am working on more resolutions right now while also trying to find a texture for the party border sensuki likes. 1440x900 for example is ready for full support as we speak. 1920x1200 is one of the resolutions I am going to try to get in as well. If it works how I think 1920x1200 is just going to be a upscale of the 1920x1080 textures anyway. If you want to throw me a bone on this one though just get yourself a screen shot of the UI at 1920x1200 and get it to me so I have something to work off of. Please make sure you save it as a png, don't just use a generic steam screenshot as they have terrible quality loss on small details.

Seriously Namu? Be respectful. @Rabain, good work. I have to agree the head on imoen just doesn't fit but the others are all fairly good. I would add there is not a lot of reason to edit the first one as it is still near identical to the ingame portrait and sadly you can't create an avian godlike so there is no need for a custom portrait of that :/. The Edwin and Jaheira are very nice and fit right in with all the current in game portraits. Really good job!

I already sent you your 2 pixel pic earlier. Anyone can crop a 2 pixel line together then make another version of it where the line is just brighter. I wanted to do something with the portrait that actually you know had some kind of design involved. Not to mention fixed the HP bar gap and overlap, something some people I know complain about non stop and still haven't thanked me for fixing, So sorry for covering the empty top corner of BB fighters portrait and taking 1 pixel out of bb priests hair. No. That isn't how it works. Everything is held to a very specific size in a source image. You can't go any larger than the source image allows for that resource. You can go smaller but you still have to be careful when doing that and you can really screw the pooch if you do. The buttons (like inventory) for example are 42x42. You could go smaller (not sure why you would) but you can't go any bigger.

Just for those who also want test images of the other UI layouts here are some links. I won't direct post them all just to save on huge post size. All pics were taken at 1080 and are just generic steam screen caps. KarkarovA Layout is the pic I posted earlier. They might, and I think having the functionality to simply move the UI elements, or hide part of them, is a big deal. Doing a total UI overhaul (take it from me) is a crap load of work though if you want it to look good, also be functional, and work perfectly in game especially at more than one resolution or layout. Assuming all you want to do is simply move UI elements though there is one weakness to bester's mod and that is once you turn on that part of the functionality you lose the ability to hide the buttons/log.

Sorry for double post again but it is time to put out one last image. This has taken a REALLY long time, I have huge respect for everyone on the Obsidian team for the work they have done, and Kaz especially for the great UI work he did and the UI system they made. It has lots of limitations, but in many ways I think those limitations help to bring out the best effort on a modders part and they inspire you to really try to do something to make the game your own. So major kudo's for leaving the door open to modding in the first place, but also for making those files and resources available in the game so we could take a crack at the UI ourselves. Also of course I want to give a big thanks to Bester for making this mod and putting in so much work and listening to everyones feedback. It is guys like him that make modding communities great and he has done more than anyone (outside of Obsidian themselves) for the dedicated fans of this game so far. Last but not least I obviously have to thank Sensuki as well for always giving UI suggestions and feedback and being one of the forum users from way back who always drove me to try new mock ups and UI ideas. So all the sappy stuff aside. I have re-textured everything that is not used in a main menu screen like the character page, or the action bar for reasons I won't go into. All HUD elements have been updated, reskinned, repositioned, and worked on to make what I feel is as good a UI as the game can get. Here is an in game pic of what will be the final version of my UI work, baring some minor touch ups here and there. Bester should have the new source file for his next release of the mod on release day. Right now 720, 1080, and 1440 are supported. If you need a different resolution and want to use my UI stuff let me know and I will see what can be done, going up in resolution isn't too rough it is mostly going down that gets dicey. There are 4 versions of the UI at this point. KarkarovA which is a default layout with everything in the default locations (pictured below). KarkarovB which is the same basic UI but the log on left and party bar on right. Karkarov C with the party bar on left and log on right but HUD buttons pushed to the far left and right side of the screen. Then lastly... KarkarovD which is the one Bester and Sensuki normally post with the log on the left, party on right, and HUD in the corners. I hope my UI work is to your liking and you enjoy it if you use it in game!

Make it anyway. Make a call. Flip the table and tell whomever said that putting the combat log in the worst possible place was dumb. Lul I like it on the right, don't mind the left either. The whole UI goes to pot if you put it in the middle because it makes everything lopsided and uneven and it is impossible to get things spaced in a reasonable way. Also the party bar is technically longer than the log at it's shortest so you could potentially be pushing the party window into a very very bad spot. I know you don't want to hear it, but from a design perspective putting it in the middle is not a good idea.

My concern isn't the background so much. Once you really understand how a lot of the Eternity UI is sourced and displayed I admit it is really cool and very well designed, serious props on some of the stuff in there it is very sly and lightweight. My main nitpick would just be the size of some elements (such as the log) because the actual resources are so small and the way they are blocked out leaves little room for a ton of tweaking. On one hand I actually love that as it forces me to be a bit better at designing the elements, nothing forces creativity as well as "do whatever you want but it has to fit within XYZ" limits. It would be nice to have a teensy bit more play though. Also for those who care I am hammering away at a final party and combat log texture. I have been working with super sensitive Bester and Sensuki on it cause their tastes are fairly different so if I can make something they both like I know it will be good . I will forever loathe their love of shiny highlighted portrait frames though.

Hah thanks! Much of the credit goes to the artists at Obsidian though for providing some of the elements I used (SKELLYS!!!) and also making the game itself which is the inspiration for most of the UI work to begin with. You guys are the bomb and I can't wait for the 26th! I literally took vacation time Now back to texturing.......
-
That's true but you should really read my post a bit further up about why you don't want to do that and why you should scale your portraits to the same size as those provided by Obsidian.

Hey 1440 resolution players out there who like this mod and want to use a custom UI, I need your help! What I am looking for is a image of the in game UI elements. Specifically I would like someone who plays in 1440 to go in game, turn on the default Obsidian UI, hide all the elements the mod allows you to hide, push the screen into a solid black zone, select BB Priest as your active character, then move the hud buttons and the party window out into the center of the screen away from everything else and do a print screen on that. Then open a decent image editor like Gimp or Photoshop, paste it in as a new image, and save it as a high quality png. Then just add it to a rar file, or something similar, post it to a file sharing site, and send me a link through PM on these forums. I am asking for this so that I can get the best quality image possible to testing purposes when I scale the final versions of my UI's to 1440 for those who play at that resolution. I would do it myself but my monitor does not support 1440. When done your image should look like this.... except in 1440 resolution obviously. Again huge thanks to anyone who can assist me with this, I will mucho appreciate it.

Backer Beta Build 480 Portraits
Karkarov replied to InsaneCommander's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
It isn't that big a deal really. You gotta understand most players wont even use custom characters and every NPC has a unique portrait that you can't select for your character. So there are literally like 72 options for what will be one character for most players right now. That's more player specific non NPC portraits than BG2 and IWD combined. -

[435] Companion Portraits have been compressed or incorrectly scaled
Karkarov replied to Sensuki's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Hmmm that's weird. The small portraits are 76x96 and the entire portrait window is 90x100, so when you take away the art border thing and stamina bar at 1080 there should be no scaling on the small character art at all. They literally should show normally because they are being displayed at their actual resolution.
