Monks in Project Eternity
Oerwinde replied to TheDogProfessor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Jade Empire wasn't ancient China, but I still didn't see any european medieval-inspired Knights in Full Plate or ANY sort of european influence. To me, an obviously eastern-flavored Monk in a setting like P:E sticks out like a sore thumb, just like a western medieval knight would have felt out of place in Jade Empire. actually yes, yes you did, one with a firearm Honestly? I stand corrected then. Damn it! And I thought it was such a damn good point to make! That's what you get for not playing through a game all the way through! I will get around to it some day... To be fair in the game he was out of place. He was basically a conquistador going off about the savages he is encountering. How everyone has bare feet and none of their warriors has the good sense to wear plate armor. Voiced by John Cleese as well. It was a fun part of the game. But my point, was that the game treated him like he was out of place, because he was. If PE is 99% based on western Europe, but has asian inspired monks shoved in there, they will feel out of place, so unless they explain it properly or have some sort of blended culture...

Old monks are always cooler with a Fu Manchu.

Saw Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance last night. Ghost Rider's look was better than the first one, that was about all that was better. It wasn't as bad as people were saying, but it wasn't a good movie either. Hopefully those rights revert to marvel and we get a decent flick sans Nick Cage.

Disney buys Lucasfilm
Spielberg is officially not doing episode VII. http://www.geekscape.net/steven-spielberg-turns-down-star-wars-episode-vii I was hoping the rumor that Matthew Vaughn had dropped out of X-Men: Days of Future Past to do it were true, but he's apparently doing some Mark Millar penned spy one, which makes sense since they're friends. Based on Vaughn's track record he would have been awesome.

Books we've been reading V2.0
Almost finished re-reading Y: The Last Man. They really need to not make a movie out of that. A series on HBO or Showtime would work, but there is far too much for a movie and very little that isn't important.

Hero-U Kickstarter: Quest For Glory spiritual successor
Favorite Sierra series of a few people here. You can get all 5 on gog.com for like 10 bucks in a bundle I think.

"The Goon" Movie KickStarter
Well they made it. Was looking bleak for a while, just barely making it to halfway with a week to spare, but they got the other 200k in the last 3 days.

If the concept piece they just posted had been there instead, I wouldn't have ho hummed for a week before backing it.

Disney buys Lucasfilm
Rumor has been circulating that Disney is looking at buying Hasbro as well, which would get them properties such as GI Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony, and Dungeons and Dragons. Apparently Hasbro is worth something like 11 billion though, which is significantly more than the 4 or so each that Marvel and Lucasfilm cost.

Saw Wreck it Ralph under the guise of taking my daughter, but it was really for me. Really enjoyed it. Reviews pretty much sum it up, its good, but not Toy Story good. With its success I hope they try to go a little deeper in a sequel, exploring how Arcades are pretty much dead with everything moving to consoles and online, and how that affects the characters. The cameos were all brilliant, and the konami code gag obviously didn't get caught by the rest of the theatre as I was the only one laughing.

President Obama
CBC Radio talked about that poll, apparently 83% of Canadians would vote Obama. Honestly, after Obama's first term of seemingly not doing much (though to be fair, it wasn't all his fault), and seeing how much of a joke Romney was, I'm surprised more people don't consider voting for a 3rd party. Its like the South Park episode, the choice was between a Giant Douche, and a Turd Sandwich. At least the lesser of two evils got in. I don't like that the top two parties in Canada try to make it like its a choice between either of them and anything else doesn't matter, and the Conservatives and NDP have basically started demonizing cooperation. I really don't want our system to end up basically a two-party system, which just seems so entirely broken in the US.

[merged] Sui Generis Kickstarter
Some of the animations need work. I mean, if they were going for a peasant thrust into a warrior's role without any fight training, thats what he looks like.

OE should license that engine for a future project.

Anti-Dragon Age 2?
I enjoyed all the Bioware games. With NWN and DA2 being on the bottom of my favorites. I'm still hoping for a Jade Empire 2.

Disney buys Lucasfilm
So turns out fox has the distribution rights for the original trilogy until 2020 and the rights to A New Hope in perpetuity. So that might be an issue for the release of theatrical blu rays.

Realism: does it matter?
Oerwinde replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)It depends what you're going for. If you want a realistic world make the game as real as youcan get without sacrificing fun. If you want a fantastical world, ho that route. Either way, fun should come first.

Disney buys Lucasfilm
Disney said two of the areas they want to focus on aggressively with the franchise are tv and video games. So maybe we'll see that live action show that's been talked about forever, and maybe we'll seea KOTOR 3
