BioWare Founders Retiring!
To be honest I don't know, CDP never really interested me until the announcement of the Cyberpunk RPG. I always assumed the needed publisher for financing, weren't they taken to court by the TW2 publisher? They use other publishers to distribute outside of their territories (Poland and Eastern Europe IIRC), but they're self-financed. CD Projekt RED is a CD Projekt-owned studio.. though I don't know if they have any other internal studios at all, from what I understand CD Projekt mostly handles stuff such as localizations (they did all the localizing for Baldur's Gate I & II in those territories).

So what have I missed?
Dungeon Siege III actually sold a lot more than Alpha Protocol last time I heard. Alpha Protocol fans tend to be very vocal, that's all, but the game didn't do well at sales (it needed some extreme price cuts to reach a slightly larger segment of the public). Dungeon Siege III, on the other hand, never seemed to inspire anyone but sold decently for a low-budget title. Probably not Slam Dunk enough for Square though, especially considering that another Dungeon Siege now would have the handicap of the lukewarm reception of DSIII, especially if they'd like to pursue that direction again.

Don't do it. This is a dangerous road. Delve too much into forbidden knowledge and soon a court will issue a restraining order that says you have to be at least a couple of miles away from Obsidian's employees at all times.

I want a full photo of that anime shirt. I'm not sure if it's meant to be ironic or not.

[merged] Vancian Magic System and cooldowns
WorstUsernameEver replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Sure, there are always minmaxers, but I'd just prefer if the base mechanics weren't tilted in favor of that playstyle. I'd still play the game and enjoy it if it had Vancian magic, it's just not something I'm big on.

[merged] Vancian Magic System and cooldowns
WorstUsernameEver replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'm not a fan of Vancian in videogames (or in tabletop for that matter, but for markedly different reasons) because I always felt like it leads to either metagaming or discourages experimenting with different tactics with your casters. As much as I thought Baldur's Gate II battles were a lot of fun, they could often devolve into using more or less the same spells into the same sequence.

Narrated sequences instead of cutscenes (let's use our imagination again).
WorstUsernameEver replied to Karranthain's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I loved the narration in Mask of the Betrayer, but I'd prefer to see it coupled with stylized art/stills rather than in-game graphics, especially since they're going with an isometric perspective this time around.

Publishers accused of trying to exploit Kickstarter (Obsidian)
Doubt they'd even contemplate something like that. It would kill a lot of goodwill, and Kickstarter campaigns run on that.

Project Eternity Composer: In-house or External
WorstUsernameEver replied to Anaeme's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Obviously I'm too interested in hearing what direction you have in mind, Justin. I'm not a soundtrack buff by any means, but I often feel like that kind of "direction" is more important than the quality of the single pieces in characterizing some piece of work in my mind, it helps defining the personality of the game. Also, thanks for the update!

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS!
I think it was a while ago.. when I noticed it (a month ago or so?) and posted about it here I've been told that it's been like that for a while.

Feargus Urquhart's Q&A on Kickstarter comment thread
WorstUsernameEver replied to ImmortalZ's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Maybe you can ask a mod to edit the stuff in the OP for you and maybe sticky this? It's a service to all of the community, so I'm sure they would be collaborative.

GOG DRM FREE OPTION CONFIRMED
WorstUsernameEver replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Kudos to Obsidian both for bettering their Kickstarter offer *and* for bettering their Kickstarter communication. They have the campaign on the right track.

UI Stuff that you'd like to see
WorstUsernameEver replied to cealicu_ca's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I can't say I disagree, the OP is pretty much all common sense, but unfortunately plenty of RPG UIs have been lacking recently. Aside from the lack of transparency in the descriptions and the so-so inventory, the original Dragon Age would be a good starting point, in terms of looking at how they laid out stuff, etc.

Project Eternity Composer: In-house or External
WorstUsernameEver replied to Anaeme's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)This topic is about the composer, they could still get a full orchestra or something to record it (though I'd expect the budget to be serious enough that they'd have to think about it twice, but I'm not an expert).

Project Eternity Composer: In-house or External
WorstUsernameEver replied to Anaeme's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)If Bell can do good work (the Kickstarter video music is good, although maybe a bit too generic fantasy-ish.. then again, I'm not sure they've decided where to take the music yet) I don't see why not. I really don't have preferences in terms of composers.. pretty much everyone that's been mentioned has done some fairly good work, but they almost all have done some very unremarkable things too.
- What are you playing now?

WorstUsernameEver replied to Starwars's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)They have an engine already. But it's probably not Onyx. Urgh I'm confused.

Risen 2: Dark Waters
Mmmmhhh... if he liked some specific parts of Gothic 2/Risen 1 he might be disappointed by the changes, I think. Risen 2 is by far Piranha Bytes' most confused title in terms of design imo, I wouldn't be surprised if it sold less than the original (but with a bigger budget).

I stream single player RPGs in no death rulesets. My thoughts on KOTOR 2 & New Vegas.
Not going to delve into the intros debate now because I first have to articulate my thoughts, but I have to admit, I've never really heard this complaint about pacing the dialogue before. If I had more time I'd probably test the theory by playing Vampire: Bloodlines, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, etc. intros back to back.. heck, I probably will, just later. I'd also be curious to hear what Obsidian writers think of that specific complaint, though I imagine they're busy on their respective projects (Project Eternity and South Park).

Risen 2: Dark Waters
You pretty much had to kick and spam attack because there wasn't any roll or dodge either. Yeah, it sucked. Right now combat is... ehr, barely competent I guess? It never gets fun, though later in the game with a few more abilities you occasionally enjoy yourself. Pity Piranha Bytes seems to have degraded design-wise, Risen 2 has a very fun setting and a lot of potentially interesting ideas. Still kind of fun, though.

Risen 2: Dark Waters
There are small hints/teasers of romance with both Chani and Patty, but no full-blown romance luckily. Also, I recommend going voodoo only for an eventual second playthrough.

Zane Lyon leaving Obsidian for Turtle Rock
Eeeehhr... I mean, obviously turn-over is normal, but the guy was the project director with South Park...

Hey Devs, don't want to be pushy or anything...
WorstUsernameEver replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)A month or so after the Kickstarter finished? And truth be told, I think Fargo published it kinda grudgingly.
